Tango Charlie was a rare movie that took a critical look at Indian army and internal geopolitics. Very well made. Great acting by Kelly Dorji. Sunk without a trace.
That's one hell of a movie (also with Lord Bobby). So many harsh truths. For starts when Ajay's character tells Bobby's character that the superficial patriotism flies out of the window at the first instance and fear takes over but you have to keep fighting because you cannot run away.
I have watched Sam Bahadur. It's really good and Vicky Kaushal deserve more recognition for his portrayal of Sam Manekshaw sir. But people are going to watch Animal which is problematic and toxic character. The audience is at the fault everytime they cry for good content in Bollywood movies and when Bollywood tries to make that they shift towards masala movies. Same thing happened with many good movies like Swades, Kahaani, Lakshya, etc. The kind of content we watch reflect the image of society. Instead of boycotting Bollywood they should boycott their obsession with toxic characters.

After watching Animal, my only thoughts were how violence, toxicity, cheating, etc is getting normalised! A girl who called him brother for years ends up loving him because he is alpha? He cheats on her because he wants to save her father? And biggest of such films promote crimes and breaking the law to settle things on your own! Most importantly, the toxicity of Vijay was hailed by all the people in the theatre, be it girls or boys. I wonder where we are headed!?
I watched both movies personally even if Sam bahadur could have been much better still i think it was quite motivating and emotion triggering film where you can see a personality with courage and confidence and coming from army background the scenes were actually quite authentic. On the contrary Animal just felt like collection of those Sigma reels with banger background music which increases your dopamine for a temporary duration but during the whole movie i was just trying to find the connections between those reels and in the end there was nothing more than a mentally unstable person trying to justify all kind of things in the name of his family or father and i have felt that in both Kabir Singh and Animal the main villian or problem was always the main character's personality if the Main character has a little more brain, 99% problems were already solved. and that might be the moral of the story if there was any to begin with.

And John killed other killers and did himself die in the end. It feels like a video game. These all are some of the best made films. It's still very true though, irrespective of backlash or boycott that films have the power to influence and they aren't really forced to use it for good but imo, they have duty with respect to what they are making. And like your Jawan example, it does influence people, even if for a moment. Birth Of A Nation is one of the most technically revolutionary movies made and not in circumstances like the Nazi movies, according to Griffith he was just telling a story but it did cause race riots and rebirth of the KKK. I have still seen people online talking about how KKK was important when it was formed, basing their perception totally on the movie. Animal isn't that deep. In fact I have loved many more problematic movies and unabashedly so; and it isn't really "that bad" like some 80s and 90s stuff, but saying a movie doesn't have any moral obligation is wrong imo. A story can be morally grey, it might ask us questions we aren't comfortable with and follow the antivillain or even the villain; but consequences are important. What I am trying to say, I don't have a problem if a movie has one morally bankrupt thing or one misdirection, I even hate the censor board; and I may like even bleaker films for reasons; I just prefer consequences and saying a film doesn't have a responsibility is wrong.
Best review of Animal, better than lot of film critics :D The film is just about Vanga and his view of world not about any story. He also has a random scene to diss therapist, totally unnecessary scene in movie but point being alpha male/chad don't go for therapy.

I don’t have a problem with violence in movies. I’m a huge Tarantino fan. However, violence without conviction gave me a migraine by the end of Animal. I didn’t care about the characters and there was no time spent in the reason why Ranbir became the animal he is in the film. Belonging to a highly influential family flying private jets, his dad issues seemed too insignificant which left the stakes too low for the viewers. The song used for the climax fight was misplaced and seemed comical for the situation. Indian directors have a long way to go. Just watch how Tarantino writes long conversational scenes cooking up the suspense to a great high which then explodes into violence. Over here the dialogues were elementary to say the least.
The problem director himself is not knowing Hindi. Like if Hollywood make english film you should learn english. I think Bollywood is just trying to show pan directors and actors are one. But not searching quality not every Tamil film is quality film and goes to director and industry people of south😅

I would prefer listening to the 50.33minutes long Lecture of Legendary Field Marshal Sam Mankeshaw at St. Xavier's School that is available in TH-cam. The available interview vidoes available on TH-cam that Sir Manekshaw gave are greater than the movie itself.
Animal has its problems but its not a mediocre Film as a cinema point of view, if everybody will think like you then Bollywood can never give competition to Hollywood. Sam bahadur is also not a masterpiece and its okay , it also have issues💯. Actually you can say something is bad, because that's an opinion and opinions are allowed to be subjective. Movies like Animal are not the ones that will give competition to Hollywood, beacuse its poorly written and very long for a mindless action flick. There were a lot of plot points that ended up nowhere or were ultimately meaningless. I feel animal could lose a whole hour of runtime without affecting the plot in anyway, 2.5 hours for an action thriller is perfect

Yes.. I do agree with your point. The cinematic effects and the role play might be very good. But its psychological impact on its audience which is a serious matter is swept under the carpet when we promotes such films. What's worth the entertainment when it has potential to cause great damage to the minds? We all live in a society and no matter how hard we scream for liberalisation, (the uprising from shackles places on individuals in a society) we are very deeply connected with each other and our actions can have multiple effects on the welfare of the society. So to be under restrain, to control our 'animal' inside is actually a good thing. Watched both, enjoyed both. Simple af. Animal was like a 3 hr hyper boosted roller coaster ride where as in Sambahadur the lead portrayal by Vicky Kaushal takes away the cake. What an excellent video! Akash is in form in this one! I'm deeply disappointed that Sam Bahadur has the flaws that have been pointed out. I have always heard a lot about FM Manekshaw growing up, and I was eager to watch a movie about him. But I've absolutely no intention of going to watch some nationalistic, sanitized nonsense. The contest between Sam bahadur and animal, is a reflection of todays India. Sam bahadur depicts humans as they are and appeals to a thinking frontal cortex. Animal appeals to animal part of your brain. Nehru/Gandhi appeal to the thinking populace who see them as humans - great but not perfect. Modi appeals to the animals in the society.
Not just Hollywood war movies but in fact South Korean and Japanese war movies are also good with a low budget like Iwo jima (Japanese) and the brotherhood of war (Korean). Both were good and honest representation of that time.

This film is not average in any way. The screenplay, dialogues, bgm, music, few montages are unparalleled. Second half the person changes enormously in a negative way, he loses his masculinity, he becomes deaf, his bladder looses control, a person can go into depression, a person becomes a maniac like this protoganist / antagonist or if he trusts some one a lot who can get him out of this. This is a very complex character.

Reviews across the internet that focus on misogyny or toxic masculinity, unfortunately deviate from the fact that the movie has 0 story, and no character development/arc. 99% of the movie Anil is detached from his son, and in 30 seconds he gets close to him. The movie doesn't bother explaining what caused RK to grow into a violent person, considering he didn't grow into a violent family. Don't even get me started with the subplots around Tripti and RK's response when he learns about his health condition. This movie is not coherent, and the action scenes aren't thrilling either. It thrives on shock value, which didn't do anything for me, or for anyone who grew up watching Tarantino movies, gory horror, or incest gharana GoT. Even Guns and Gulaabs has more or less the same amount of shock value. Finally, I am glad Akash brought up K3G. That movie has literally more focus on a father son bond, than Animal.

That's one hell of a movie (also with Lord Bobby). So many harsh truths. For starts when Ajay's character tells Bobby's character that the superficial patriotism flies out of the window at the first instance and fear takes over but you have to keep fighting because you cannot run away.

But people are going to watch Animal which is problematic and toxic character. I watched both movies personally even if Sam bahadur could have been much better still i think it was quite motivating and emotion triggering film where you can see a personality with courage and confidence and coming from army background the scenes were actually quite authentic. On the contrary Animal just felt like collection of those Sigma reels with banger background music which increases your dopamine for a temporary duration but during the whole movie i was just trying to find the connections between those reels and in the end there was nothing more than a mentally unstable person trying to justify all kind of things in the name of his family or father and i have felt that in both Kabir Singh and Animal the main villian or problem was always the main character's personality if the Main character has a little more brain, 99% problems were already solved. and that might be the moral of the story if there was any to begin with.

Birth Of A Nation is one of the most technically revolutionary movies made and not in circumstances like the Nazi movies, according to Griffith he was just telling a story but it did cause race riots and rebirth of the KKK. I have still seen people online talking about how KKK was important when it was formed, basing their perception totally on the movie. Animal isn't that deep. In fact I have loved many more problematic movies and unabashedly so; and it isn't really "that bad" like some 80s and 90s stuff, but saying a movie doesn't have any moral obligation is wrong imo. A story can be morally grey, it might ask us questions we aren't comfortable with and follow the antivillain or even the villain; but consequences are important. What I am trying to say, I don't have a problem if a movie has one morally bankrupt thing or one misdirection, I even hate the censor board; and I may like even bleaker films for reasons; I just prefer consequences and saying a film doesn't have a responsibility is wrong.

I don’t have a problem with violence in movies. I’m a huge Tarantino fan. However, violence without conviction gave me a migraine by the end of Animal. I didn’t care about the characters and there was no time spent in the reason why Ranbir became the animal he is in the film. Belonging to a highly influential family flying private jets, his dad issues seemed too insignificant which left the stakes too low for the viewers. The song used for the climax fight was misplaced and seemed comical for the situation. Indian directors have a long way to go. Just watch how Tarantino writes long conversational scenes cooking up the suspense to a great high which then explodes into violence. Over here the dialogues were elementary to say the least.

I would prefer listening to the 50.33minutes long Lecture of Legendary Field Marshal Sam Mankeshaw at St. Xavier's School that is available in TH-cam. The available interview vidoes available on TH-cam that Sir Manekshaw gave are greater than the movie itself.
Animal has its problems but its not a mediocre Film as a cinema point of view, if everybody will think like you then Bollywood can never give competition to Hollywood. So to be under restrain, to control our 'animal' inside is actually a good thing. But such restrain is not followed by many due to strong change in our society (ideological changes like liberatisation and many other). The type of content we feed ourselves on, the type of surrounding we live in all of these things influence our personality, greatly.
Such movies promote nothing but degradation of women and mental instability. Many, if not all, get encouraged to commit the same misdeeds because they see people clapping around and cheering for such scenes. They find it cool, so they go out on the ground unethically to prove they fit well in the same category of "coolness'' as well.

I'm deeply disappointed that Sam Bahadur has the flaws that have been pointed out. I have always heard a lot about FM Manekshaw growing up, and I was eager to watch a movie about him. But I've absolutely no intention of going to watch some nationalistic, sanitized nonsense. I'll just buy a well-reviewed biography of the war hero, and read that instead.
Oh, and don't even get me started on this movie Animal. I saw Sucharita's review, and it looks like she and Akash have the same thing to say. Clearly, it's a deeply inferior piece of work, made by inferior human beings to appeal to the inferior sensibilities of other inferior human beings. Not even worth talking about.
And last, I'm shocked to find out that movies about the army in this country need the army's approval. I had no idea about that one. Is there end to our goverment's stupidity and depravity?

The contest between Sam bahadur and animal, is a reflection of todays India. Sam bahadur depicts humans as they are and appeals to a thinking frontal cortex. Animal appeals to animal part of your brain. Nehru/Gandhi appeal to the thinking populace who see them as humans - great but not perfect. Modi appeals to the animals in the society.

Not just Hollywood war movies but in fact South Korean and Japanese war movies are also good with a low budget like Iwo jima (Japanese) and the brotherhood of war (Korean). Both were good and honest representation of that time.
Not to mention Japanese also made Grave of the Fireflies.

Animal already become blockbuster and it was going to be blockbuster even without controversy because of his trailer, teaser hype but if vanga didn't added some of dialogues then it was a perfect anti hero movie but vanga because of his history with feminist added some of the dialogue to trigger those people and made this movie absolutely controversial and also made many people call him out who were defending kabir singh.
I think the level of education has really improved in India, recently all marvel movies were getting significant box office collection so if India directors chose to make War movie based on Indian history it would definitely work if screen play, VFX and story are good.

This film is not average in any way. The screenplay, dialogues, bgm, music, few montages are unparalleled.
Second half the person changes enormously in a negative way, he loses his masculinity, he becomes deaf, his bladder looses control, a person can go into depression, a person becomes a maniac like this protoganist / antagonist or if he trusts some one a lot who can get him out of this. This is a very complex character.

Reviews across the internet that focus on misogyny or toxic masculinity, unfortunately deviate from the fact that the movie has 0 story, and no character development/arc. 99% of the movie Anil is detached from his son, and in 30 seconds he gets close to him. The movie doesn't bother explaining what caused RK to grow into a violent person, considering he didn't grow into a violent family. Don't even get me started with the subplots around Tripti and RK's response when he learns about his health condition. This movie is not coherent, and the action scenes aren't thrilling either. It thrives on shock value, which didn't do anything for me, or for anyone who grew up watching Tarantino movies, gory horror, or incest gharana GoT. Even Guns and Gulaabs has more or less the same amount of shock value. Finally, I am glad Akash brought up K3G. That movie has literally more focus on a father son bond, than Animal.

I saw animal yesterday and literally loved this movie. It is extreme on many occasions flr sure, but it was great and connected at many points. Normally i am inline with your views but over here we are at very different points.
According to him , Gangs of wassesypur and anurag kashyap are progressive and show women empowerment.
This is the same Meghna Gulzar who changed the climax in the movie Raazi, made Pakistan look good and India bad, at least in this film she got some sense.😂😂
