    I also thought 47k was a big salary until I found out tech companies pay 6 figures no problem. I agree that you have to temper your expectations since the market is saturated but if you can financially and mentally handle it don't settle for these underpaid positions. On blind, there's lots of info about getting data analyst positions at tech companies.

    Hi Alex, you're very lucky with your salary because It's lower in Europe (in my case in Spain). I know that everything is more expensive in US but surely you save more money all the month. Nice to do a video about this topic because in France for example, we don't speak a lot about salary, It's "chocking" for some people, the differences can be very significative.

    🍄 Great video as always. Still in the learning phase so still a while til I can apply it.
    Like you advised me in a previous vid I've been learning SQL first. I'm getting proficient and wanted to ask, once you kinda know what you're doing how long does doing one project take?
    And when building my portfolio should I try mainly do projects in my desired domain?
    Thanks Alex
    🍄

    • @AlexTheAnalyst
      @AlexTheAnalyst  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It can take as little as 2-3 hours or as long as a week. Just depends on what kind of project you're trying to do. If you want to show exploratory analysis in SQL it can take a few hours. If you're building an ETL pipeline it can be a few weeks to get it all right.
      I think domain specific doesn't hurt if you're sure on what domain you want to do. I have some domain specific ones, but I also have some personal ones like on Fantasy Football which I just really like so I did it.

    Mushrooms!! 🍄 Do you recommend asking about 401k, bonuses, health insurance etc. during your job interview or when you get the job offer?

    • @AlexTheAnalyst
      @AlexTheAnalyst  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a really good question. I recommend asking things like Bonus and 401k in the last round interview, but asking about what the "Total Compensation" is comprised of. When they start talking about it you can ask if they do 401k match or offer bonuses. It can be off putting sometimes to ask it outright (or at least I feel it is lol). I would ask about Health Insurance once they offer you the job and you can ask them to send you a link or pdf of their options.

    If we are offered a salary, how do we know it’s a fair offer or even too low? Is there anyway to find out what a particular position pays? Any special websites or any paid services to find out? I do not want to take an offer and find out after the fact that I could’ve gotten paid a lot more.

    I’m doing MS in Business Analytics. According to my school, the graduates in 2019 made 86,000 on average , but most of my classmates are new to this filed, so I feel like I’m ripped off lol
    There is no way fresh graduates make 86k on average

    • @AlexTheAnalyst
      @AlexTheAnalyst  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that sounds a bit high, but depends on what demographics they're pulling from to get that number. If they're looking at fresh grads who got jobs in Silicon Valley, then maybe? lol It all depends on the data.

    My first data job. Senior revenue management analyst 65K a year.

  • @wwinston3929
    @wwinston3929 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Alex, please help. So I’m currently working as a mechanical engineer at DC and I’m thinking about self learn and becoming a DA. The biggest reason is because of salary. Im working at a pretty large engineering company right now(over 15000 people globally), my starting salary is 75k, and almost everyone at the company gets a promotion every 2 years and get a salary increase of about 8% (asked a couple ppl within the company to confirm these numbers). So im basically expecting to get paid around 100k in 6 years (which is not bad, dont get me wrong, but i just want to explore other/better opportunities). However, 2 of my friends who’s working as data analyst at a local marketing company that has less than 200 employees in Maryland, started with similar salary, and gets a raise of 7500 dollars for just working there for 6 month, and expect to get a raise every 6 month at least for the first couple of years(someone we know worked there for 2 years and already making 120k). But, by looking at all the glassdoor/linkedin data, and your video, DAs dont make that much, so do you think this company is an exception? Or would you say most DAs actually do get an increase jn salary that fast? Thanks

    Mushrooms! Great show Alex, just wanted to ask; I'm halfway through my second year at uni for my BSc in comp sci and have covered both Python and Database Development so far as data analysis relevant modules go. But I feel like I haven't covered either of these topics well enough for what I would like so have also invested in the first 3 of your recommended Udemy courses as well as a zero to hero Python course. To get to the actual question (sorry for the rant), would you think this is a warranted move or is this overkill at this point in my education?

    • @AlexTheAnalyst
      @AlexTheAnalyst  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the courses would definitely help supplement your learning. Honestly, sometimes uni just doesn't cover everything that you specifically need. They do general courses and sometimes don't go in depth into the things you need. That's just how it is. I always recommend self-studying!

    • @AlexTheAnalyst
      @AlexTheAnalyst  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on what job/industry you're coming from. Also depends on your education. I think now isn't the best time unless you were laid off and have the time to devote to job hunting and learning new skills. But lots of factors that go into that for sure!

    Hi Alex
    I'm almost done with the last portfolio project on python (4/4). I'm good at SQL, Excel, Tableau and python. Wanna know if it's possible to have a remote job while being in Africa. If yes, what could be my chances with regards to the global job market.
