  • Today I review the latest installment in the ' a tale of ' series from Glenmorangie. This one is dubbed A Tale of Tokyo due to part of the spirit maturing in Mizunara Oak casks from Japan. This whisky is a marriage of Glenmorangies aged in bourbon , sherry and Mizunara oak casks, before being bottled at 46%abv,
Celebrated Japanese artist, Yamaguchi Akira's perspective of the city's contrasts and layers of history and culture inspired the design and you can try to find a few depictions of Dr. Bill Lumsden hiding within the intricate design.
Let's see how this tale compares to the previous installments. Cheers!

Timely review as my local had their last bottle on the clearance shelf last week for $49US after taxes (~40GBP). I rescued it but haven't opened it up yet. I'll have to keep checking to see if they eventually do the same with their dwindling Tale of Forest stock which is currently $110US (87GBP). Thanks!

Wow what an amazing price, lucky you! Yeah if you can pick the Forest for that price as well that'd be amazing.
      Thanks for watching, cheers

Haven't had one of these since the Tale of Winter. Intrigued to hear this one seems to be presenting a bit stronger.

How did you find the Tale of Winter? If I were to vote from best to worst I'd put Cake, Tokyo followed by Winter. I'd put the Forest between Cake and Tokyo but it's a really different profile than the rest of the Glenmorangies, so I like to keep it separate. Cheers 🥃

@@thewhiskyenthusiast It was different from any Glenmorangie I'd had, but I didn't love it. Tokyo's spot in your rankings has me interested in checking it out. 🥃

This is on my list to review. Great video. Interesting to hear you describe what elements of the Mizunara shone through. Kanpai!

Thanks Mac, glad you liked it! I don't know if it's power of suggestion but I did get those notes. Looking forward to your take on it sir, cheers 🥃

I know you love Mizunara so I knew this would be a hit for you…I enjoy the 🍑 peach/apricot notes but find the sandlewood/pencil shavings not as alluring for my palette.
    Cheers 🥃

Palates are so different aren't they John. I'm with you on not liking the sandalwood and pencil shaving notes but I just don't get them here or in any mizunara oak touched whisky I've tried. If that's the off note for you though, definitely stay away from Kamikis. Cheers John 🥃

Good review! I will look forward to trying this one. I too really liked Tale of the Forest, I have only a few pours left on that bottle so hopefully I can find this one soon. Slainte Mhath!

Thank you! It's very different than the Forest but a tasty dram nonetheless. I hope you enjoy it, Slainte

Somehow the algorithm sent me your way. I'm not really a drinker but I'm intrigued but your content.. I might just go and pick myself up a bottle.
    Of what now?🤔

Hey there well thank you algorithm and welcome 😃
If you're intrigued about Glenmorangie, I recommend you start with the 10 year old, it's a good easy sipper to start. I would also recommend: The Naked Malt, Auchentoshan Three Wood, Balvenie 12, Dalmore 12, Glendronach 12. All are good 'gateway' whiskies with no smoke or peat and mostly sweet and malty.
Have you tried any whisky before and if so which ones and can you tell me what you did or did not like about it?

@@thewhiskyenthusiast The only whiskey I've really tried is old number seven LOL

@@marshallfischer3667 Well I do like JD so maybe try another one like the Gentleman Jack or the Gold No 27. but if you want to venture out to Scotch you can follow my suggestions up. Also Irish whiskey could be a good start as well like Redbreast 12, Green Spot or Jameson Black Barrel

This bottle is $100 in the states atleast where I live. I love Mizunara so I also really enjoyed this one so drinkable, and with Mizunara I always get a rose petal flavor which is so unique so I enjoy it

It is so so drinkable but thankfully I don't get rose petals as I absolutely hate the smell of roses :) my go to flavours are always peach&apricot for mizunara. Thanks for watching!

Great review Sertug! I really should find a sample of this one. The thing that kept me away from Tale of Japan, aside from my disappointment with Tale of Winter and not loving the gin-sky vibe of Forest, was that reviewers were only getting a "hint" of mizunara influence. And that seemed likely with the other cask types included that it would only be a hint. Your review is making me think their may be more mizunara oak impact than others found so i'm reconsidering this one. Its back on the radar for me. Also, I've had a pretty good experience so far with the Glenmo Palo Cortado so that's helping as well. Again, great review man. Cheers 🥃

Thanks Matt, glad to know you liked it. Hah yeah the Forest was Gin-sky! I love this word 😃
Well it might be power of suggestion and my deep search for those notes but this is totally an inoffensive, easy sipper, breakfast whisky in my opinion.
The Palo Cortado was not bad but I just couldn't connect with it that much, it just felt a bit lacking in body for me.
I'm curious to know you like the Tokyo, hope you can find it for a reasonable price.
      Cheers Matt
