    1. Daily Drinker - Glendronach 12 (fair price, easy to find), Bowmore 12, fantastic price if you like a bit of smoke
    2. Impress Friends - for people who never tasted it, i would give them a Lagavulin 16 just for the shocks
    3. Mixer - Chivas Regal 12
    4. Something Great - Ardbeg Corryvreckan / Glendronach 15 / Hakushu
    5. Something Special - Springbank 15

    I am proud to see the Signet on this list. I love Glenmorangie! I’ve not tried the Project XX, but now I feel a responsibility to try it… My personal every day drinker is the Aberlour 16 Double Cask. Great dram and even humans that don’t drink Scotch can appreciate it. Great list!

      Signet is just delicious! Project XX is good, not great but works for a daily dram.
      Yeah I understand why you'd pick the Aberlour 16. My go to whiskies for gently introducing people into whisky are Balvenie 12 -14, Glendronach 12 and Aberlour 12-14.

    Interesting take on that challenge (I was challenged too). Besides, I would love to try 70 yo Brora but that doesn't exist, stock wise of what I know (Brora & Port Ellen fan here) but you'll rather see that in old Speyside distilleries as I'm sure you know, though Gordon & McPhail most likely...Cheers from Paris, France (first time discovering your channel, btw, thanks to TH-cam suggestions ! )

    Very nice pics ... some are old faves you reminded me to get again (XX,Solist,Signet ... all excellent) ... slight pref for the vinho barrique solist, but the sherry is delicious. I'd probably take Eagle Rare over 101, though agree 101 is more versatile. Don't know PC10 - will check it out. For "great" I'd probably go with Stagg Jr or a Glendronach 18 Allardice. Also those might not meet your "easily found" criteria.

      Thank you Matt! Yeah I had to think long and hard but at the end I wanted to create an accessible list. I have heard of the tales of Vinho Barrique but have not had the chance to try it yet.
      Eagle Rare 10 is for me a fantastic neat sipper whereas the WT 101 like you said is very versatile.
      Not a Glendronach fan but damn yes for Stagg Jr!!! Brimstone and Jr and incredible whiskies and I love them so much but again they're not easily found where I am :( Thanks for your input. Cheers!

    Yo! It's so cool to see somebody give props to the Glenfiddich Project XX as well. I do love it. I wouldn't have this as my daily, probably, though.
    Daily Dram = I generally tend to jump around on those. I use my "guard whiskies", as Vin PF from NoNonsenseWhisky likes to call them. So there'd be Arran 10, Talisker 10, Glenfiddich 12, Black Bottle Double Cask, Deanston Virgin Oak, Redbreast 12, Jameson Black Barrel in the mix, for instance. Any of those'd be peach.
    Cheap Mixer = Johnny Walker Black Label or Wild Turkey 101 works well for me.
    Impress Your Guests = Uncle Nearest 1856 has done the job a few times, especially with its backstory.
    For A Special Occasion = It's the Glenfarclas 25 for me.
    Something Great = I could just put the Bunnahabhain 12 or Port Charlotte 10 here, but a little oddball I have and love is the Deanston 10 Bordeaux Cask Finish. It's a rollercoaster of flavors.

    • @thewhiskyenthusiast
      @thewhiskyenthusiast  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What a list! Thanks for sharing it. Yeah I do love the XX and I understand what you're saying. I'm not familiar with the 'guard whiskies' but I see the pattern.
      Black Label is always a go to for me for a highball!
      We don't get Uncle Nearest here and I have no idea about the story so now I'm intrigued 🤔
      I'm not a massive Glenfarclas or sherry fan to be honest but anything with 25 age statement is special!
      Ahhh a man of very very good taste. Yes sir, the that Deanston Bordeaux is something amazing and at a fantastic price as well.

      @@thewhiskyenthusiast The short of it is that Nearest Green was a slave and the master distiller who taught Jack Daniel how to distill. Daniel, upon starting his own company hired a few of Green's sons, and so their legacy became interwoven. The author Fawn Weaver started a foundation to commemorate Green and help finance scholarships for his descendants. The whiskey itself of course helps with that.

    Project XX it's a very delicious whisky, but on the label of my bottle that I bought in Europe, it says there's caramel in it, I think as a coloring. I didn't know single malt makers were allowed to put caramel in their spirits, but it must be so...Anyway, the taste of it's so so good.

    • @thewhiskyenthusiast
      @thewhiskyenthusiast  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah good info thank you! Yeah in European bottles, they have to tell if they've used caramel colouring or not. Mine was from US so it doesn't state anything but thank you for the info.
      Yes Scotch Whisky Association does allow the use of E150a caramel colouring in whiskies. This does not affect the taste and it's generally used to standardise mass produces bottles so the average consumer doesn't feel like the bottle they bought this year looks different than the ones they bought 3 years ago. Also it helps sell more bottles to less in the know customers as they think the darker the whisky the better 😉
