We, as audience, naturally could feel frightened or sad because we don't comprehend what is going on and once we sense the pain in his voice, we also could feel so sad for him. That is why both fear and sadness can be felt from watching this performance! This performance is kind of like a modern art abstract painting, if I use fine art as an analogy. I have seen fine art works that elicit different feelings when we look at them, but never watched a music performance in pop music taking this form. So he is definitely creating something akin to modern art in pop music (he was still singing a pop song) here! I do believe that this creative and experimental side of Hua Chenyu will make him a legend and he will have a name in the history book down the road! So, what you see here is no longer just an idol performing pop songs (he is a composer for 16 years already since he was 12 and he has solid classical music trainings). Agreed! Hua Chenyu is not just a pop singer, but a real artist. There is no question about it! I think that some (not all, of course) of his performances are like modern art paintings in the pop music field if I use fine arts as an analogy. Modern art is more abstract but it makes you develop your own interpretations. His Fake Monk performance is a great example of such type of modern art style music. He is definitely one who breaks music boundaries and music expressions in so many ways in pop music. I am just so sad that people still misunderstand him when they don't understand his performances. More Hua Chenyu reaction pls. 2019 Mars Concert tickets went on sale in China on 20 Jul 2019... His Martians fan base (called ETs for short😂) wiped it out in 3seconds. More than 656000 people were log in online simultaneously fighting for tickets... Almost immediately people were braying for a 2nd night concert, but statistically if they can squeeze out 60,000 seats each night, they will need to add at least 10 more concerts just to accommodate those numbers... that's not even counting ETs unable to login and foreigners like me. Heh. Woes of a Martian. The annual ET homecoming just went from "difficult" to "ridiculous" to "only in your dreams" 😓
And "fake monk' is him reliving his PAST which was full of frustrations and loneliness . i think his mom had some health issues back then too, cancer i think (i may be wrong). but, his dad remarried in his teen years. i think situation got better since then. He is pretty good with his family now and am extremely contented. :) - from what i could gather ^

This is song is about depression and loneliness so it might be quite extreme especially if you didn’t watch what he said in the interview. He is really expressing himself here, therefore the screams. He was prepared to end last in this episode but he was third suprisingly. He became second and Jessie J took first place. I also thought he should’ve won, Jessie J is great but really Hua Chenyu sang a different style every episode. I thought he was OJ a different level
Guys... hate to break it to you, but you swung and missed (the point) of this entire performance. Most do. But you had a fighting chance, because you had the subtitles on. Did you read them at all during the performance? Thing is, this was not a light listening song; this was a performance piece. Hua was portraying a psychopath, masquerading as a monk (i.e. not a real monk), who traveled the world and interacted with it with selfish intent. His musicianship painted for us his creepy inner world. His lyrics gave voice to his creepy, evil, and self absorbed thoughts and desires. Listen to it again with what I've said in mind, and I think you'll gain a whole new appreciation of what it took from him, emotionally, to deliver this performance.
