So refreshing to see a booktuber who also reads manga! I find it hard to find creators who read both traditional fiction and comics.
As for manga recommendations, ‘Witch Hat Atelier’ is a lovely series! I’ve just started it myself but it’s already one of my favourite series :)
If you liked ‘Tokyo Ghoul’ volume 1, I urge you to continue, It really is a great series!
Lastly a new series I’m loving is ‘Blue Period,’ it’s about a boy discovering his love for art.

One of the most wholesome, heartwarming, and funny manga I have read is "Yotsuba &!", its about daily life of the little lovable girl, Yotsuba, and her family and friends. Pure slice of life and comedy, would really recommend it if you want a big dose of joy!!

My top 3 Manga stories of all time:
    1. Goodnight Punpun- a psychological, coming of age story about a character called punpun who is illustrated as a cartoon bird. It follows his childhood from age 10-20 and how his upbringing led to him becoming an realistically flawed individual who falls into various relationships. It’s very sad but also depressingly relatable, make sure you’re in the right headspace. Definitely an 18+ so be careful.
    2. Monster- a psychological thriller set in Germany and Czechoslovakia about a doctor who saves a boy only for that boy to grow up into a “monster”. He then goes on the massive journey to hunt this man down to stop him hurting anyone else and uncovers this huge conspiracy and the mans past. Really really good characters who have realistic flaws and super interesting character arcs.
    3. To your eternity- a fantasy series about an immortal being who can take on the form of those around them who die. It’s a really interesting concept and definitely an enjoyable tear jerker. Same person who did a silent voice which is also a must read/watch.
ALSO ANYTHING BY JUNJI ITO OMFG THAT MAN IS A GENIUS

Hey Emma! I started reading manga this year and my first one was The Girl from the Other Side. It's a heartwarming, quiet, gothic fantasy about a little girl and a gentle monster. I think you would really enjoy it. But beware the last volume doesn't come out till November and i can assure you, the wait until then is a loooong one for me.

  • @aditmaryadi6678

We've seen Classics Emma. And right now, Otaku Emma 🇯🇵🍙
Anyway, I've read hundred manga series especially seinen (adult male), Shonen and little amount of Shoujo. For Shoujo teen romance manga I recommend you Orange. It's about a girl got a letter from 10 years into the future, telling her to prevent her 'biggest regrets' which has something to do with a boy from her school.
And for Seinen, I recommend you to read Monster by Urasawa Naoki, a Chris Nolan of manga creator. It's about a doctor who did an emergency surgery to a kid over a rich patient only to face the reality that the kid has grown up to bring despair and turmoil to him because apparently that kid is a serial killer.

Old, but still my faves: "Kingdom" by Yasuhisa Hara (orphan, war, making the biggest dream come true, gorgeous art, there is no english publication, I read it in French, but you can find english one via internet), "Orange" by Ichigo Takano (friendship, mental health, small scifi element), "Fullmetal alchemist" by Hiromu Arakawa (the art is awesome, some in a funny way, some normal and it fits, huge inside joke community), "Ibitsu" by Haruto Ryo (urban horror legend), "Another" by Yukito Ayatsuji (paranormal), "Alice in Borderland" by Haro Aso (escape room vibe), "The girl from the other side" by Nagabe (cosy story, human girl in a world of monsters)- these are the firsts that came to my mind. Enjoy :)

*rolls up sleeves* Finally someone who actually wants my manga recommendations!
Since you've mostly read romance manga so far, I'd recommend:
A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi)
    Kaichou wa Maid-Sama - this one's a bit odd, but a classic
Snow White With the Red Hair (Akagami no Shirayukihime)
Orange by Takano Ichigo - this one only has 5 volumes, so you wouldn't have to commit to a very long story
Fruits Basket - I sadly haven't read this yet (only watched the anime so far), but the story is PHENOMENAL
Kiss Him Not Me (Watashi ga Motete Dousunda) - also very weird but I enjoyed sooo
And then I thought I'd throw in some other genres if you ever wanted to leave the realm of romance manga :P
    Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic
Bungou Stray Dogs (Literary Stray Dogs) - all characters are named after classics authors (at the beginning it's only Japanese, later they throw in English/American and Russian) and have superpowers based on one of their books, the actual story is about detectives and the mafia
Not sure if you'd like sports manga, but I recommend Haikyuu!! (volleyball) and Kuroko no Basket (basketball)
Thanks for a fantastic video as always! I would love it if you made more manga content, as long as you enjoy it too :)

Because you love classical literature, as I do, I’ll recommend to you some classic retro shojo manga from the 70s, as that decade was highly inspired from classical literature.
“The Rose of Versailles” is a love story and a political drama set in the French Revolution. The main characters are Marie Antoinette and lady Oscar. It’s such a classic. It reminds me of melodramatic literature of that time.
“Candy Candy” is about an orphan girl with many adventures, it’s about friendship, love and growing up, overcoming hardships. (it’s like Anne of green gables and Oliver Twist)
“Glass Mask” is an epic story about a girl named Maya who wants to be an actress and it has so many deep meanings about acting and some of the plays that they play are from classical books such as “little women”, “wuthering heights”, “a midsummer’s night dream” and some pieces of Japanese literature.
There are many other manga from that period, but unfortunately they either aren’t officially published in English or they aren’t scanlated. Still, I want to mention “the Poe clan” that is a gothic horror about vampires from the 18th and 19th century, “Haikara San ga Toru” which is about a headstrong girl in Taisho era (1920s) who is a feminist,
“Yokohama Monogatari” that is a slice of life story of the Meiji era (Belle Époque of Japan) and one of the two main love stories is very similar to “gone by the wind”.
If you’re are interested, make a research on those. I think that you will like them.

    Hi, Emmie.
A few modest recommendations on my part:
Manga: Silent Voice; Ancient Magus Bride; Girl from the Other Side; My little Monster; Fruits Basket; Kimi no Todoke; Solanin; Your Lie in April; March Comes In like a Lion; Made in Abyss; Oyasumi Punpun (take care with this one. It is like reading Dostoevsky, very depressing!!!); &
Light novels: Book Girl; Violet Evergarden; I want to eat your Pancreas; I Had That Same Dream Again; &
And I recommend Bookwalker for Manga and Light novels.
I hope you will find something. Please, Take Care of Yourself and Thank You, really love your channel.📚✌

Hello Emma, recommend to you the following:
    - Skip Beat! by Yoshiki Nakamura (very funny, ongoing manga)
    - Aria by Kozue Amano (an absolute beautiful, warm and cozy anime)
    - Gakuen Alice by Tachibana Higuchi (my childhood favorite)
    - Shugo Chara! by Peach-Pit (my childhood favorite)
    - Gakuen Babysitters by Hari Tokeino (super cute and short anime)
    - Nodame Cantabile by Tomoko Ninomiya (it's a manga, but I recommend the anime for the music)
    Enjoy your reading :)

One Piece - it's a good time to start getting into the series. It's filled with adventure, mysteries, insane world building, and character development. Makes you laugh, cry (happy and sad tears), and just leaves you in awe on how well thought out each arc is and how it links perfectly to future arcs despite being years apart.
Currently, it's more than a thousand chapters but it's totally worth the read. Story seems a bit childish at first but once you reach near the 50 chapter mark you begin to realize that this is something special and like the protagonist's crew you somehow find yourself drawn in and to go along with the journey.

If you love it, also get Card Captor Sakura, it's so adorable and sweet. And Fruits Basket. It was the first manga series I read and it's still the best one for me, such a deep story and characters.

Pandora Hearts is a manga that is an amazing read. It has a unique and intricate plot. I'm also very into the manga The Ancient Magus' Bride right now. Don't judge it by how it seems at first. It's really a lot deeper than it may seem. Made in Abyss is a series that is one of a kind ,but it comes with a ton of content warnings. It's also one I would recommend watching the anime first because it's a more immersive experience and does a good job of trying to tone down some of the more controversial elements. Pandora Hearts is the only manga of the 3 I recommended that is completed. All 3 have anime adaptations ,but as of now the Pandora Hearts anime is incomplete and did an anime original ending. The other 2 series have anime adaptations that seem to be coming out periodically when there is enough material in the manga for another installment. All 3 look beautiful, especially Magus' Bride and Made in Abyss with them being more recent ,and all 3 have amazing soundtracks.

It’s funny that you’re irritated that Tuxedo mask wears a half mask and no one notice him when the whole sailor scouts doesn’t wear a mask just a sailor outfit and no one recognizes them 🤣 I still love Sailor Moon and hope you still like it as you go further into the series.
I have a ton of recommendation because this is my first time I visit your channel so Idk the genre you prefer.
High school romance: My Love Story by Kazune Kawahara, Kimi ni Todoke: from me to you by Karuho Shiina, Say I Love You by Kanae Hazuki, Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun by Izumi Tsubaki, Love Com by Aya Nakahara, Ouran high school host club by Bisco Hatori.
Other: A man & his cat by Umi Sakurai, Sweetness and Lightning by Gido Amagakure,
    Action: Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto
Fantasy/paranormal romance: Inuyasha by Rumiko Takahashi, The Ancient Magus’ Bride by Kore Yamazaki, Kamisama Kiss by Julietta Suzuki, Black Bird by Kanoko Sakurakouji, Vampire Knight by Matsuri Hino
Murder/Mystery: Erased by Kei Sanbe, Death Note by Tsugumi Ohba, Tomie by Junji Ito
Manga made by CLAMP: Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits, Kobato, Magic Knight Rayearth, Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, xxxHolic
Currently reading: Spy x Family by Tatsuya Endo and A sign of Affection by Suu Marishita
I hope this is helpful I didn’t know how to categorize some of them since some goes under more than one category.

    My two recommendations:
    1. Basara (or Legend of Basara), by Yumi Tamura. If you ever come across it, I'd love for you to give it a try! It's an epic fantasy romance that uses the gender-bender trope (girl disguises as a boy). I never got to meet another person who's read it, but it remains one of my favorite manga series after many years.
    2. High School Debut, by Kazune Kawahara. This is a super cute high-school rom-com that focuses on the developing relationship of the lead couple throughout high-school, rather than being about them getting together only. I don't see many series depicting healthy teenage relationships, and this is it! Also, it can be hilarious at times.

but for having a light drum story:
    silent voice
    and these too:
Promised Neverland(this one has a great s1 Anime)
    Tokyo Ghoul
    Haikyuu

Read goodnight punpun, it's a brilliant and dark coming-of-age story, executed with such passion and also the characters in there,is also extremely relatable. It's mainly consists of black humor most of the time but it's more like a journey to look characters being grown up from childhood to adolescence. Please please read it!!!

Don't know if you've heard about it yet but I really recommend the old mange series Glass Mask by Suzue Miuchi. It's about a girl named Maya who is like a genius in acting and it follows her acting journey. I literally read The Wuthering Heights in high school because Maya played young Catherine in a play :)) Hope you'll enjoy it
