If i have Cams or an projector far away from the switcher i simply use one micro-converter from HDMI to SDI and one in the opposite direction. This works well and costs only ~120€ for each channel (20 m SDI-cable included)
The effects buses being upstream, means that when using either one, the only mix and wipes you can do is introducing and removing the effect, for example, if chroma keying input 4 over input 1, 2 or 3 you can only CUT between those inputs on the other bus... a cut may not always be suitable, for this reason, we decided to let our OBS software do the keying and PiP work while the switcher maintains the nice mix & (occasional) wipe transitions.
Hi, John. Thanks for this video! Do the inputs have to be at the same frame rate? We got the ATEM TV Studio HD and found out that the cameras have to set a the same frame rate in order to function. Wanted to mix 1080p 59.94 and 1080p 29.97 cameras.
V1-SD - Inputs 1-3 have 720/59.94p, 720/50p AND 1080/59.94i, 1080/50i 1080/59.94p, 1080/50p, (FORMAT switch one the side between 720 and 1080 = 1080i or 1080p) Input 4 (hdmi) - 480/59.94i, 576/50i, 480/59.94p, 576/50p, 720/59.94p, 720/50p, 1080/59.94i, 1080/50i. 1080/59.94p, 1080/50p, VGA (640 x 480/60 Hz), SVGA (800 x 600/60 Hz), XGA (1024 x 768/60 Hz), WXGA (1280 x 768/60 Hz), SXGA (1280 x 1024/60 Hz), FWXGA (1366 x 768/60 Hz), SXGA+ (1400 x 1050/60 Hz), UXGA (1600 x 1200/60 Hz), WUXGA (1920 x 1200/60 Hz) V1-HD hdmi Inputs 1-4, 720/59.94p, 720/50p 1080/59.94i, 1080/50i, 1080/59.94p, 1080/50p ((FORMAT switch one the side between 720 and 1080 = 1080i or 1080p) )
John, I'm using the V-1SDI switcher. I have three cameras attached. I 'm able to switch between 2 of the cameras, however, the third cameras can only be switched in setup mode. Is there a way to gain control of the third camera without being in setup mode?
Hi John, really good overview video. I have a question though, have you tried connecting a PC output (i.e. game footage) to the Roland V-1HD. Do you know if the PC (graphic driver) sees the Roland V-1HD as the display device or does it see the output / preview monitor as the display device. Unfortunately, my setup will only work if the PC recognizes (through PlugNPlay [UPnP) just the Roland V-1HD. I cannot seem to get this information from any spec sheet. If its not too much of a bother can you please check this, thanks.
I can confirm it does indeed, we used this to chroma key in lyrics over a song item as well as displaying static images and videos throughout our stream.
hii everyone.. i want to use the roland v1-Hd .. and i want stream to facebook/youtube live with OBS studio.. so this roland v1HD need to video interface to connect at the pc/obs studio?
Correct. You will need some sort of capture device or hardware for streaming. The AJA UTap would work. Or the BMD web presenter. Even a Epiphan webcaster X2 would work.
@@joefickry Same quality, it all comes down to latency and the limitations of distance when talking about HDMI cables.. A few HDMI over cat 6/ SDI converters will fix those issues.
Hi John - I had a question about videoing live events. I have good audio from a lapel mic and audio recorder on the presenter. I'm really happy with the sound. However, my presenter likes to have a lot of audience interaction. The lapel mic doesn't pick up that audio very well and I end up cutting a lot of video out of the final production. This sucks because the audience interaction can be a very important part of the event. I use a DSLR for the main shot, a camcorder for the second camera angle. I'm trying to figure out how to capture the audience interaction better. Do you have any experience or advice for this situation? Thanks and I love your TH-cam channel.
You will need an audio mixer, a set of handheld wireless mics, and you will want to connect ALL the mics to the mixer and give them an aux bus out to the audio recorder. Given that the main out will go to the P.A. I usually work with live seminars and this is a very common situation for me. Personally, I have a TWO XLR's mixer MAIN OUT with different faders, so I assign one to the P.A. (I don't care if it's a mono out as long as it's a mono input, like human spkeaking voice) and another one to the professional camera which also has a couple of XLR input, so I record both audio and video already embedded together. Hope it helps (Y)
John I have the VH1 and have tried to link it to my computer using a blackmagic ultra studio recorder, doesn't seem to get a signal. All I wanted to do was TH-cam Live or Zoom any ideas. Love you videos Paul
If you are looking for a small compact switcher with hardware buttons this fits for you... however if you are thinking in the long run, you might wanna lean towards the atem tvs HD instead because it has 4 more inputs.. ergonomics and design. for a little bit more price. That's my opinon.. It actually depends on your workflow.
Actually remember the Atem actually costs less than the SDI Roland, I was gung ho about the Rolands when they were first introduced , but when the new Atem TV Studio HD came out last year the appeal of the Roland quickly faded, I already have the streaming part covered in the form of the BM Web Presenter so i"m using the basic two channel switching functionality provided by the smart Panel on the Web Presenter until i earn the funds to buy more cameras and the Atem
Just a quick question since you already have the TVS.. Does it have sync/frame synchronizes (Mix and Match Frame rates capable?) on board? Because I've heard the 4K one does.. not sure about the TVS HD and the PRO.

can you share your converter? thanks
I'd also like to see how these stand up against the Atem Television Studio HD.
Greetings mister from Indonesia shooting video. - allison pro
Can you please make a comparison video of the Roland V-1HD vs Atem Mini?
I would very appreciate it. Thank you. Keep up the good work!
Mister steady. What's the price of the mixser video in the country. I'm from Indonesia?
thanks for mentioning the price :)
You save a lot of my time by mentioning the price of each device in all of your episodes. Thank you once again:)
Long time since upload, I miss your videos, please upload something soon :)
Nathaniel Luberth I feel the same way , I sent him a message on Instagram , 1 month ago , no reply :/
Seems like a good product. Really the cons are just a function of the small form factor. I think for the price and size, the cons really aren't cons.
Sounds like a good device for your needs then!

Interesting little device. The Format selector is just for the output or for the whole system?

Hi John. Is streamdeck works in V-1SDI?
Since the V-1HD does not have a network connection, there would be no way to communicate with it, so that will not work.
