As a solo dev, I can personally say that recording voice lines are my favorite part about making a game. It's fun and easy to do with time and effort, and it's really inspirational once you hear it in the project, even for just a few lines.
From the file names in the source code we can see: Ed Boon - Jax, Kano, and Shang Tsung Peg Burr - Sindel, and Sonya Dan Forden - Nightwolf Jon Hey - Kung Lao, and Sub-Zero Ann Mazza - Sheeva Vince Pontarelli - Kabal, and Stryker We also know Steve Ritchie does Shao Kahn, but Liu Kang and Cyrax/Sektor/Smoke are uncredited (but are probably Ed Boon and Dan Forden, respectively).
Sub-Zero’s voice should be the very same as Nightwolf(Dan Forden)! Jon Hey(that matches perfect with Johnny Cage in MKT) doesnt match with him! BTW! Ed Boon’s voice just doesnt match with Shang Tsung, but fits perfectly with Jax, mainly! And… who did MK2 male voice?

Old school hardware analog sounds way ahead of the cheap digital garbage they putting out these days. No wonder MK1-3 had a true distinctive sound modern cant touch
The sound hardware between the first three MK games are different; MK1 used the Yamaha YM2151-based FM sound board that been used since the System 11 era (starting with 1986’s Road Kings), but upgraded the speech chip to the OKI ADPCM, which sounds a lot better than the Harris CVSD chip used in Williams’s pinball games. MK2 and MK3, meanwhile, used the DCS Sound System, which is like playing four MP3s simultaneously. MK2 and Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure were the first games to use DCS.
I never thought I would see Steve Ritchie recording the Shao Kahn voice. Best announcer voice in history, period.
And he doesn't even remember anything about it, smh....
