The Stuarda autograph score wasn’t discovered until 1991, so what you’re used to hearing is not what Donizetti had in mind. This performance follows the new critical edition, although it may not be your taste.
Oh well, ok that's why I thought this final was so much more beautiful and spectacular than usual, and I couldn't understand why. There's no comparison. This version is absolutely superior to the other one.

The fast pace loses the drama of the Figlia Impura di Bolena scene. That key phrase is not accented with long notes. The confrontation duet, the final sound like a modern disco song. The scene does not save even Antonecci's precious interpretation
Oh, you mean the one where Gencer screams her guts out? Yeah, that’s just about the antithesis of bel canto, although a lot of people like the verismo approach. 🤮 Btw, it’s SHIRLEY, who I saw many times in New York.
How come she has no chest voice at all and thought it would be aaaamazing to sing a role that depends on it? A nice voice with a good timbre and a very secure top, but the lack of chest is sad.

No one beats Leyla Gencer and Shurley Verrett in the 1967 Florentine May Festval perfornance.
