Can the Lumenier AXII HD stack up against the king of antennas?

  • The king of the antenna world (in my opinion) is the TrueRC patch antennas, but I want to know if these compact antennas can stack up against what is already my personal favorite. In this video, we explore penetration and long range antenna vs antenna to find out who the true king really is.

FYI: if footage corrupts due to unexpected power loss (from the machines' POV), most DJI Products will un-corrupt it when you re-boot the device with the SD Card in it. Saved me from *_probably_* getting fired a couple of times.

@NURK FPV - It's 3 tx/rx and 1 rx-only ports according to the FCC documents. However, actual power testing has shown that only the top two connectors ever transmit anything.
When using the AXII HDs you've got them on the rx-only connectors. That will somewhat hamper the retry mechanism which DJI relies on very heavily.
FWIW, I run em plugged into the top two ports, and have some long AXII 2 "long range" omnis with right angle connectors in the bottom ports which stick up over the top of the goggles.
Yes I have to remove and reinstall the omnis to fit in my bag, but they're a lot easier than removing/reinstalling the TrueRC antennas. If I want all directional, I use 2 Triple Feed patches on bottom connectors instead of the omnis.

Many thanks again Nurk. I own both sets but don’t feel like taking the time to compare them. The convenience factor is a big one. Putting the X2’s on and taking them off is not convenient I don’t touch the antennas on any of my other sets of goggles because I’m a little bit lazy, and fortunately I don’t have to unless I want to try something new. So, I am grateful that you tested them for us. Also, I didn’t know that the DJI DVR stopped if it lost signal; thanks for that bit of knowledge too.👍👍

great video nurk. personally I've found the goggle 1000-1200mw setting to be night and day more powerful than the '700mw'. like over 4 times more transmission range. as though 700mw is only 200.

When you switch the bottom 2 antennas to the patch antennas do you lose any omni directional capability? Would there be any benefit of running one True RC Patch, AND one Lumenier AXII HD (like a combo)? Asking, because curious.
    Thank you.
Never mind, it was addressed down below by a " Victor Galvez".
Would you happen to have said footage of the combination of each patch, maybe in future works?
    Again, thanks.

after your test i ordered them, because of size and handling. i really hope they are working well on the V2 googles the same good way. even with only 10% behind the others, it is still a good result.

thanks for this test - You did spend some time flying and checking them :D
but If I may please 2 small changes:
1st - I would do wanna know, how Lumis compare to stock antena :P so a 1 flyover with stock to set baseline would be really nice (I know, they should loose in terms of directonal range, but wonder how much, maybe it's only 10% diff, and then it's worth more to stay stock@gogle, just invest instead in better antennas on drone :D )
2st - I agree with some other comments, that it would be nicer if You can put latency/mbits data on screen too

  • @bwinston
    @bwinston 3 ปีที่แล้ว

This might be a stupid question but is there a reason to run the DJI system in 25mbps when it's capable of 50? Surely that means better range and penetration?

Guys. I really like these videos, trying to find out, what is the best equippement for us. Even if this isent a scientic approach, like rcschimm's attrmps. You guy just missed a critical point. The goggles (Antennas) must be in a lock, fixed position. A slight move with the head makes huge differents in such a high gain antennas. ❤

I got the menace rc patches and then bought the axii patch/omni kit and I think so far that the menace patches were doing better for penetration than the axii patches are. I haven't tried using the menace patches and the axii patches together yet. Also i've tried patches on top and on bottom and for penetration/proximity I'm not sure I can tell the difference.

Damn, just bought an x-air last week!
Something to note is they’re a bit fussy to get on and off.. those 3D printed grips don’t work very well (on mine anyway).
A fair test for day to day would really be having one of the x-airs on only, and leave two omnis - Lumeniers would probably hold up in that test

    • @bricktopfpv7573

I bought one X Air first, then this comes out. I order the AXII HD and this will be my daily. I just remove the stubbis and put the X Air on Top without removing the HD patches. Think it will work nearly the same like two X Airs.

I've been looking into getting the DJI FPV Goggles but so far haven't seen many videos of a Radio Transmitter other than DJI's and I'm not a fan of DJI's radio so is it just a matter of using a different flight controller? I'm fairly new to the hobby just have used a few different Video Drones and GPS drones but I've been learning Acro with a simulator any differences you had to make or just any flight controller with the DJI Video controller?
