FYI: if footage corrupts due to unexpected power loss (from the machines' POV), most DJI Products will un-corrupt it when you re-boot the device with the SD Card in it. Saved me from *_probably_* getting fired a couple of times.

@NURK FPV - It's 3 tx/rx and 1 rx-only ports according to the FCC documents. However, actual power testing has shown that only the top two connectors ever transmit anything.
When using the AXII HDs you've got them on the rx-only connectors. That will somewhat hamper the retry mechanism which DJI relies on very heavily.
FWIW, I run em plugged into the top two ports, and have some long AXII 2 "long range" omnis with right angle connectors in the bottom ports which stick up over the top of the goggles.
Yes I have to remove and reinstall the omnis to fit in my bag, but they're a lot easier than removing/reinstalling the TrueRC antennas. If I want all directional, I use 2 Triple Feed patches on bottom connectors instead of the omnis.

  • @gregstewart4692

Many thanks again Nurk. I own both sets but don’t feel like taking the time to compare them. The convenience factor is a big one. Putting the X2’s on and taking them off is not convenient I don’t touch the antennas on any of my other sets of goggles because I’m a little bit lazy, and fortunately I don’t have to unless I want to try something new. So, I am grateful that you tested them for us. Also, I didn’t know that the DJI DVR stopped if it lost signal; thanks for that bit of knowledge too.👍👍

Directionally these should definitely win over any stubby. I’ve flown the truerc stubbies for probably 300 packs now and they are no better than stock. I’m definitely keeping the stubbies though, if I stuck with stock I’d either have to remove them every time or I’d end up breaking the connector. And sma connectors are rated to like 1000 mating cycles or something. A lot can be said about form factor.

DJIJOFPV I’d really like to try these out since they are so low profile AND cheaper than X-Air. But if you’re not the type to use directional I’d stick with those stubbies. You can really improve performance a ton with better antenna placement on the quad and upping your wattage with the 1200mw hack
Extra long omnis on the goggles would also be beneficial, but then you’re having to connect / disconnect 2-4 antennas every time you go out.

Running the antenna sideways like that means the radiation pattern goes up and down, rather than side to side. Great for tall building but limits the angle side to side and isn't the optimal choice for the antenna design.
Have you tried using two crosshair extreme? Smaller than your current antenna and as good punch with a better radiation pattern.

Good spot, and a good, thorough test. I especially like the wooded path as a penetration test. When the time comes, I'd really like to see FrostByte run the same course vs the DJI system.

Very nice test but one thing just curious why you didn't end up using only one x-air antenna and the two Stubby's and just switched to the axii 2s? That seems to be more of a fair test but still nice to see how they perform against one another.

  • @aerialvation

Flying LR over the lakes on the TrueRC held much stronger than the Lumeniers, like 15% better in range and 25% in performance. And 5-10% in penetration through the bush-course. We'll try to custom form factor the TrueRC antennas we sell a little better soon.

Would you happen to have said footage of the combination of each patch, maybe in future works?
