Carla, 'here, hear!" I so agree with you. I turned 70 last July, I still feel 40 but I just had to say that for the last 25 years of a 32-year marriage, I either went alone or not go at all. Wouldn't it just be amazing to have like you said, not only willing but enthusiastically participate. I do have to say though, I love my alone time. I'm a crafter and teach crocheting, embroidery, etc., and I never get bored.
I'm thinking about doing some DIY's myself. I don't know how to get started but it's time to learn!
I jokingly say, "I don't know it all, but I know a little bit about a whole lotta stuff.

When I ran three thrift stores for a charity we carefully looked at stuff that might be valuable. We had a friendly auction house who would take a look at things for us and give us an idea of their worth. We would then run them through the auction. It is the responsibility of whoever is running these stores to make the most of whatever goods they get donated in order to further the aims of the charity and fundraise. We did once have a bag of clothes donated and when they were looked through, we found a pair of pantyhose with a load of money stuffed inside. There was quite a substantial sum. We had no idea who donated the clothes or where they came from so we couldn't return the money. That was good for us, but a shame for whoever lost it

Judith Easley I have been collecting and selling since 1979. I see a lot of trends come and go. Items that could be sold for 100 dollars 25 years ago, go for 15 now. It’s all about finding the buyer. What was hot and desirable back then might be totally unsellable now. Younger folks are into plastic licensed junk these days. And it really is mass produced junk. The older collectibles, unless serious antiques, often just take up space on the dealer’s shelf. I have to laugh though because I have a couple of those thick cookie molds and didn’t think too much of them. It’s not fun listing all this stuff online and then packing it up and hauling to the post office.

I've gotten over 'breaking the rules of Goodwill' and now often scrape off at least a part of the danged tag (I do try to do no more damage than necessary). They always cover over the manufacturer tags and marks at all the Goodwill stores by me. If they don't want their tags damaged, they wouldn't do what they do. And it really irks me that the paper labels are always damaged by the GW price sticker. GW - stop putting the labels there, and people will stop damaging your price stickers...

I find great home decor items all the time at Goodwill. If someone can’t find anything at the GW and think it’s only junk I assume they are not creative. I think it’s easy walking into a store where everything is color coordinated and displayed to show vignettes, but a real decorator can find the diamond in the rough.
