I bought a horse whose hooves were in this condition. It took 6 months of gently trimming away the excess growth because that white part that shows up is LIVE tissue. You only trim a small amount at a time, then use an antibiotic. That poor donkey was probably in agony after doing that. It needed to be done but not like that.

They have no love for the poor animals, I seen videos in which they are killing dolphins to be sold in the market for food. It was very sad and depressing to see how the dolphins were crying asking an American for help while he was vacationing in that Country and he couldn't do anything to help or he will be arrested. A knee to the gut doesn't win that donkey's trust in your care. I work with horses and donkeys and my first task is to get them to trust me not fear me. Once I get them to trust me they will let me work with them and hardly ever give me any attitude. I'm sure you wouldn't like to go to a doctor and have them kick your stomach before your exam.

Chinese concept of empathy for people and animals is very different. That doesn’t mean they don’t care. I tend to try and hold my judgement of different cultures, but it does offend my western sensitivities at times.

The guy doesn't want get kicked, so he communicates in a way the donkey can understand. If you notice the physical punishment is accompanied by verbal sounds, this is to help the donkey learn to respond to verbal sounds. They don't enjoy bashing the donkey - it's a waste of their energy.

I'm not a hoof trimmer (Farrier?) so I don't know. It has to be done. It looked like he was pulling his blows, just letting the donkey know that kicking wasn't acceptable. They do look sheepish and relieved after the trimming but it must've been painful. You notice that the donkey didn't cry out.
