I think the reason for selective memory is that stacking in high elo has a reputation of being a cheap and easy way to win because the matchmaker struggles heavily to find other stacks, so acknowledging his wins while stacking means he also has to acknowledge that his rank is higher than it "should be".
This is actually exactly how I beat her. The only difference being I had a mimic and didn't buff my weapon. I had no idea Malenia had such low poise so I beat her ass. *sigh* ...Then phase 2 happened...
