Picaleña prison in Colombia, the country's fifth-largest, houses over five thousand men and women. Known for its high security, no prisoner has ever escaped. Life here is marked by strict rules, monotony, and frequent arguments among inmates. Carlos, 28, is serving 27 years for murder, drug dealing, and fraud, while his wife Lilian, incarcerated just 200 meters away, is serving time as an accessory to murder. Family imprisonment is common due to the familial nature of drug trafficking. Carlos's weekly highlight is courtyard time, where inmates can play football or do other sports.
During the day, prisoners must stay out of their cells unless they have work, leading to boredom and frequent arguments. Without a job, inmates pass the time with games involving cigarettes. Carlos struggles to get through each day. In contrast, 41-year-old Saul works in the wood workshop, having served two years of an 18-year sentence for a "false positive" killing. A former military man, Saul has grown to love carpentry and plans to work as a carpenter after his release.

Picaleña prison in Colombia is the fifth largest in the country. Over 5000 men and women are incarcerated here. It's a high-security bunker from which no prisoner has yet managed to escape. Strict rules, monotony and arguments among the inmates determine life in one of Colombia's toughest prisons. 28-year-old Carlos has been sentenced to 27 years for murder, drug dealing and fraud. His wife Lilian is also in prison - She is serving time for accessory to murder just two hundred meters away. Married couples or even entire families in prison is nothing unusual in Colombia. Drug trafficking is often a family business.

Only the penal colonies are the most sought after for the prisoners serving life sentences. Penal colonies are prisons without walls or bars, like the Iwahig Penal Colony, they can live peacefully like in a homestead and can bring their families. They will work on agricultural land and have its produce while still receiving regular rations.

Carlos, you're definitely full of it. The worst part about being in prison is not being there for your children. Then seconds later explain how you wouldn't change a thing because you had to prove yourself. That sounds so weird coming from a grown man with a wife and kids. You needed to prove yourself to them. Not prove how gangster you are smh

La verdad tristemente aquí en mi país Colombia 🇨🇴 los delincuentes tienen beneficios y consideraciones, que no debería ser así, porque ellos si no piensan cuando hacen tanto daño a las personas de bien. Dañando familias enteras. Y peor cuando muchos no sienten ningún arrepentimiento

I never had anything to hide, but I stopped working in the Alabama State Prisons because of the constant employee searches and checks. No cellphones the entire shift, completely absent from the outside world. Clear backpacks. Clear food totes. Clear drinks. Pat down on each other, personal property being searched, i just didnt have the mentality to deal with being trust issues with each other.
Well when 99% off contraband come inside the prison from employees its not hard to see why all these rules are in place.
@@richards5721 i worked in a work release that house 750 prisoners and most times than none when I was strip searching prisoners coming back from work, they had contraband on them. Had tons of emergency calls for prisoners overdosing in their units or getting into fentanyl and spazzing out on the floors. They also had a TV room with pool tables, during the patrol walks you could smell the aroma of marijuana in there. So definitely in my case it was them smuggling things in from work.
This is a 5 star Norwegian hostel compared to Madagascar prison.

Aquí en Colombia no hay cárceles verdaderamente seguras, hay demasiada corrupción se dejan comprar y los dejan volar, aquí no castigan fuerte a violadores, no es cierto, les dan muchos beneficios, sabiendo que ellos no cambian.

Damn, me gusta que los presos con crimenes pequeños se le enseñen oficios y puedan salir con un trabajo. Asi, en vez de regresar al mismo camino pueden hacer algo mejor con sus vidas, para sus familia y para si mismos. Les deseo suerte, ojala puedan salir adelante y no regresen al crimen.
Those 2 prisons shown are Not Tough... They have food, a bed, shelter and the women dress like they would at home. Jewelry is allowed on both men and the women.. The children are always the one's to pay the price for what their parents have done. They will most likely find themselves in prison like their parents.
Food, bed and shelter are human rights, you know, correct? You can't take those away for punishment.
You should watch South Cotobato Phillippine and Madagascar prison documentary grom this channel. Those two are what truly a tough prison really is. They can't even find a place to sleep and food is scarce.

Te aseguro que el 90% de lo que están allá de igual forma recibieron "chancleta" y en algunos casos fue precisamente eso lo que incentivo sus conductas violentas y les enseño a resolver todo con violencia.
Porque si hablan que es una cárcel que es una de las más seguras, imposible de que alguien escape, como es posible que si hay una revisión extrema a los guardias de seguridad, No han podido las autoridades evitar que siga entrando las drogas, tanto a los hombres como a las damas presas, entonces si es posible entrar drogas y siempre las hay dentro de una cárcel segura, de la misma manera es posible poderse escapar de la cárcel, entonces la entrada de la droga es por la corrupción de las autoridades y nadie hace nada.

_Normally I would have sympathy for some of these inmates, but I noticed all these Inmates talk about is themselves. Not once did they mention their victims or how they destroyed families. It's just all about them being a victim of a prison system._
