Uncle George (George Carl) back in the 60's practicing in our front yard in Mineral Ridge, Ohio. In this video he demonstrates his innate acrobatic abilities.
I cast George Carl in film I made called Funny Bones. I had seen him in 1982 at The Crazy Horse Club in Paris and made a mental note that I had to work with him. He was brilliant in the film, suffering from early Alzheimers but brilliant. The actor/comedian who played his brother, Freddie Davies, looked after him so well, guided him through. To George and to Freddie I shall be eternally grateful. Peter Chelsom.
George was the best teacher I ever had. I worked with him for 8 months in Miami at the Sheraton Bal Harbour. I was young and cocky and it took just about all that time of being forced by Sammy King to watch him to truly learn and see his genius. We shared a dressing room, and one night he was doing back flips before going on stage and caught his feet on the dressing table as he was coming around. He still went out and did his "get shorter" while walking in a circle bit every night, even though the tops of his feet were so black and blue from the hit they looked BLACK. I miss him.
My parents worked with George alot in the 50s doing fair dates. I worked with him in 93 in Germany. I have some real good off stage footage of him clowning aroung and telling jokes. He was one of a kind !
I met George and had a few conversations with him when he appeared at the Riviera Casino in Vegas in the mid 1980's, I was a Food and Beverage manager. He was a humble genius, a sweet quiet man. I always made it a point to pop in to the showroom to seen his act, I saw him dozens upon dozens of times and never got tiered of him or his act.
I LIVED IN LAS VEGAS FOR 35 YRS! The incredible GEORGE CARL was easily the FUNNIEST act I ever saw! PURE GENIUS! He can stand next to CHAPLIN and KEATON etc! I got to meet and hand out a bit with this gentleman!
WOW. Today, there is nobody, nobody who has a talent like George Carl was blessed with. He and his kind are gone. Sadly, we will never see their talent again. Today we have American Idol's, Everyone can sing or act. Today's talent is just garbage!!!
Interesting. I never knew about his connection to Mineral Ridge. I live about 20 miles from here and interesting know this incredible performer had ties to Ohio.
One day my Dad showed me a video of this brilliant man and my life was forever changed. He is STILL a great inspiration. He remains one of the all time greatest performers!
Doing back flips in his late forties, incredible athlete. As a kid, I remember seeing George Carl on Swedish television in the mid 70s where he really made an impression on me. Then I suddenly saw him in Funny bones, and I was immediately transported back in time. Another 12-13 years passed when I on a whim looked him up on IMDB, and after gotten hold of his name, to my great surprise and joy, found clips of him on TH-cam. A great performer!
I want to be a member of the Carl family. This man is a G-dfather to all actors who pray for "funny bones" and aspire to make people laugh with their bellies and cry with their hearts.
Yes a really great film. With so many great people in it spanning the generations from Gerry Lewis through to Lee Evans via George and Freddie with so many great cameos from George Kahn in the circus ring, Leslie Carron and Oliver Reid to all the fantastic 'auditionees'. Oliver Platt carried off the difficult role for any actor with pride; the unfunny comedian. Just a pity we don't see it more on the box. One of my all time favorites. Thanks.
What lovely, personal footage to share. Always loved George's act - I'm from the UK and he guested on the Paul Daniels Magic Show over here late 70s on. As a child, I thought George was just a very funny man. Now I'm much older I can also see that he's up there with the world's finest physical comedians. He had exceptional skill and talent. The kind of hard work involved in perfecting his various brilliantly original moves is seen here. Great to see so much of George here on TH-cam.
Thank you for sharing your family with us. I feel very privileged. Your uncle was and is even TODAY a phenomenal artist. My father, brother and I have laughed in the recent days since first discovering him until our sides ached and our faces were red. George Carr will be sharing his gift with people as long as people stick around, and they will love him for it just as I do. Thanks again.
I saw George Carl on Swedish televison as a kid in the 70s, and he made a big impression on me, many years later I see him in Funny Bones and immediately recognize him. And thanks to the magic of TH-cam I can bring back those childhood memories. To see him do these acrobatics as a man in his mid forties is mind boggling. A true genius.
@ WilberWisdom "Today we have American Idol's, Everyone can sing or act. Today's talent is just garbage!!! Amen to that! " you got that right! And thanks for putting this on you tube, and let's hope that future circus artist wil be inspired by this wondelfull man, and never forget him.
Absolutely fantastic! I've only ever seen George on TV (60's / 70's) or more recently, on TH-cam, so to see him enjoying 'off-duty' time with his family is a treat. Many thanks for sharing this clip, Mr WilberWisdom.
Thank you so much for posting this. George was a fantastic performer and being in the business myself, it was a rare treat to see "home movies" of one of my comic heroes. I only wish it was longer. Thanks again.
I would feel so proud to have an uncle as great as yours was. He was immensely talented and incredibly funny. I love to watch him and to emulate him when I get the chance. Thank you so much for posting this.

I got here because I treasure that film, which in every way is a gift.
Brilliant film.
Did george carl ever do any print or filmed interviews. I'd love to know more about his life and hear more of his speaking voice.
@@Fcutdlady I don't think so. And, sadly, I never recorded him being interviewed.
