  • The Incredible George Carl on the Ken Dodd Laughter Show
    #GeorgeCarl #KenDodd #LaughterShow #GeorgeCarlClown #Comedian
This is from Ken's Christmas show on the BBC 1981
I spent my Childhood as one of Ken Dodd's Diddymen and this fantastic piece of footage is from Ken's Christmas BBC Laughter Show in 1981 and stars the incredible George Carl.
Peerforming with great artists like this were indeed the best years of my life and steered the path my career would take!
George Carl (7 May 1916 - 1 January 2000) was a "vaudevillian" style comic & clown. Carl was born in Ohio, and he started his comedy career traveling with a variety of circuses during his teenage years. In time, Carl became internationally famous as a clown and visual comedian. Johnny Carson, a fan of Carl's, invited him to appear on The Tonight Show on March 21, 1985 when Carl was 69. His appearance was so well received that he was asked back within weeks for a second appearance which also received raves from viewers. He appeared again on May 27, 1986 doing essentially his same act and received great laughter from an obviously appreciative audience.

Hilarious. Physical comedy at its absolute best. Hard to believe that this is a rehearsed act, it looks so spontaneous, as if he actually getting tangled and twisted up. That's what makes it so amazing. RIP George. Your comedy and performances will live forever.

Here you could see how old he was getting . Still an amazing physical clown. Yes he did the same act (give or take) everytime he appeared on tv but it was so funny. May his memory ever be honoured.

Ken’s only got mention my “chuckle muscle” and I’m hooked and laughing.
Was George the bloke who had a routine using a sticky toffee paper he couldn’t shake off? I cried and laughed with aching frustration as he performed that one.

One of the most entertaining and hilarious guys on the stage ever. I well recall seeing him on the old Palladium show in the 60's and laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. What a guy!

Inimitable...

Count Arthur Strong is so funny. What starts out as gently entertaining slowly gets under your skin and before too long you are paralytic with laughter. You can hear the audience going down the same route as well.
