A similar book to JA's novels is Hamerston Hall by Jane Eastbourne. The flavor of this novel is a pretty good reflection of the regency era. I enjoyed reading it!

Finally, someone who likes Emma as much as me!

Happy Jane Austen July!!! I can't wait to hear what you think of the third book in Claudia Gray's JA series. I'm reading the second this month hopefully. As for what to watch... there's no need to put yourself through the cheesy hallmark version of S&S lol. Happy reading and see you soon! 💕📚

Thanks for that. Hope you love Book 2!

Great plans! Have you ever watched From Prada to Nada? It’s a modern retelling of Sense & Sensibility, quite enjoyable as far as I remember.
I had planned to finally read Jane Austen’s England too, but I’m going to prioritize Love and courtship at the time of Jane Austen by Rory Muir which I’m so excited about. I’m also looking forward to rereading S&S, this time in the BBC radio version, as well as Lady Susan, and to diving into the first Claudia Gray novel.

Oh, I hope you enjoy those (and I'll be putting Rory Muir on my long-term TBR list). I remember hearing about From Prada to Nada, but had heard mixed things at the time. I may check it out if you say it was enjoyable, though.

Happy JAJ! I've been tempted to purchase The Beau Monde, so I'm really interested to hear your thoughts on it.

Ordered The Murder of Mr. Wickham has such a long wait at the library. Now I really want to read it after your review!

And yes, I'm planning to read S&S and The Other Bennett Sister (been on my physical TBR way too long lol) for sure. Have you watched the PBS Sanditon series? It's fun and I really enjoyed it!

The Other Bennet Sister is so good! Hope you enjoy it. I did watch all of Sanditon, but thought Andrew Davies got a bit carried away with where he took some of the characters.

Have you seen Lost In Austen? One of my favourites 🥰

I watched it right after I graduated high school. I remember thinking it was fun, but I really didn't like what happened with certain characters (i.e. Mr. Bennet, Mr. Collins, etc.).

Hi Heather, I'll be reading Mansfield Park this year which will be my fourth Austen. My favorite so far is Sense and Sensibility. I'll be interested to see where MP falls since it's unpopular on Booktube.

One of my coworkers at the Jane Austen Centre had the theory that most people either love Mansfield Park and hate Emma or vice versa (I happen to like both, but acknowledge that they are both very different books). If you liked Sense and Sensibility, I think you might like Mansfield Park. I'm now intrigued to find out what you think once you finish it.

Sounds like a great TBR! Regarding The Watson's, I have a bind up of it along with a follow up by Joan Aiken called, Emma Watson. Have you heard of it? I haven't read it yet, but plan to soon :)

I haven't, but I think I read something by her. Was it Sanditon that she also finished?

I hope you enjoy your reread of S&S, I enjoyed rereading it last year. I’m jealous of your illustrated edition! I’m rereading P&P. Great tbr. This year I’m particularly excited for some non fiction. For fiction, I’m thinking I might try some Georgette Heyer. Do you have a recommendation for where to start with her?

Exciting! I love Venetia by Georgette Heyer. The audiobook on Audible is abridged, but still full of everything I could want and is narrated by Richard Armitage, so...😍

I didn't like that edition of S&S. The Illustrations looked Victorian.

    • @freshparchment
      @freshparchment  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Well, yes. Hugh Thomson made the illustrations in the 1880s, so they were probably influenced by the time in which he lived. Not for everyone, but I rather like them nonetheless.
