  • In today's video I give you an update on everything that has happened thus far with my 430 Scuderia. There have been some teething troubles, but they are getting sorted and I'm happy to say owning this has been a lot less hassle than some other cars that I've had which were much newer.

    Nice to see Dick Lovett's car preparation hasn't improved in the last dozen or so years since I bought an M3 from them in Bristol and had you not been a TH-camr it absolutely would not have been dealt with in the same way.
    Their attitude and customer service was, and clearly still is appalling.
    My experience was soured so much that I sold the car 6 weeks after purchase, losing £3,000 in the process, and the 2 cars I replaced it with could not have had better dealers.

      It seems to be all too common these days unfortunately. My dad had a really poor experience with Sytner Bristol (Mercedes) - which is 2 minutes away from Dick Lovett - they refused to acknowledge his e-mails so he went in person to complain and the lady in charge of the service dept. sent a young lad because she didn't want to face him.
      Awful customer service and whilst I appreciate an approved used E220d Estate isn't exactly their most profitable car (they seem to sell a LOT of C/E63s), I expected better.

I may never have occasion to deal with that dealership myself but fully agree that, while there's something to be said for having attention to detail such that mistakes are avoided, they are inevitable and it's how they're handled that really counts. Hi James
    My thoughts on this are, Dick Lovett are a big name in the car industry & from what you’ve said should be having “ internal discussions” to not let these things happen. I wonder if a lesser orator would have been able to put their points across with such conviction & then been fobbed off by a similar chap to the salesmen? I hate to say it but it confirms my thoughts “ Never trust a car salesman, wether they are selling Ferraris or bangers they would all shaft you given the opportunity.

    Great video as ever. Always on point and I like how you are able to argue both sides of a case, like when your suggestion for dealers to drive the cars to find faults I immediately thought about the mileage issue - then moments later you point this out yourself as not really feasible. Refreshing. From my reading about common issues with FF and GTC4Lusso V12; the faults you describe in your friend’s FF may very well be a faulty PTU (the gearbox in the front). Apparently the front gearbox seals fail causing oils to be mixed, and sensors then gives various electrical faults and sticks the car permanently in wet mode. Expensive rebuild or replacement the only fix for it.

    I bought a Ferrari 360 from an independent a year ago. The dealer has been fantastic. They did loads of prep from cam belts to nee brakes and air on compressor. We agreed that I would drive it for a few months and they would take it back and sort any issues. I noticed the gears crashed a bit going from 4th to 3rd and a whine also developed. They are fixing these issues as I type including a gearbox rebuild. The have collected the car in a covered trailer and delivered it back every time. Basically, fantastic service. Summary. Some independents offer superb service. Aside from being a customer I have no link with the dealer, had not bought from them before and probably bought the cheapest car they had. I just got back from Scotland again, such great roads. I don't think there is a better place in the UK for driving roads. Did just over 1500 miles in the XKR and achieved about 28mpg. That's A and B roads there and driving around the North of Scotland for a while and even doing a few loops at Buttertubs pass and the motorway back. I was doing between 30-50mpg on the motorway at about 65mph which is damn impressive. Cruise control really helps a lot. You really need to get to the North West coast in Scotland because the roads there are just the best, lots of bends but the road surface is so bloody good. Not to mention the views which you won't get anywhere else in the UK. Best to drive really early in the morning well before traffic builds up.

    In your case someone has been acting stupid after the mot and your warnings. They should think about safety also and a happy feeling when you think about the place and brand. Good they fixed it, hopefully a lesson to be proud about what you stand for as a dealer and brand.

    i was shocked to discover w/ MY f430 the dealer had none of the handheld TPMS checkers re-setting devices ALL the tire shops do ! they said we just hook the car up to the computer and start replacing parts untill the problem is fixed ! = you get a big parts bill !
    IN my case a parts supplier had sent or the indie shop tech ordered/ installed the wrong TPMS sensors that go in the wheels - or a former owner swapped wheels before I bought the car ( the OEM frequency was changed in 2008 ! ) so a local discount tire store was able to diagnose and solve the issue when Ferrari of Scottsdale AZ could not ! 4 new TPMS wheel sensors fixed it !

    As an American, im fascinated by the concept of “rejecting the car” in the UK? In the US we have state specific “lemon laws” that apply to new cars only and have very specific rules/conditions before a manufacturer has to buy back a car. In the UK, what does it mean to “reject a car”? Under what circumstances are you able to basically return the car and get your money back?
    The issue you described in this video sounds more like incompetence than trying to save money. If it’s something an MOT woukd pick up on how did they think it woukd ever go unnoticed for long?

    • @englyn1
      @englyn1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a German who used to work for a car company I do not entirely understand this either, although you might assume that customs might be more similar due to the EU, which Britain is admittedly no longer a part of. All I know is that customers sometimes just refuse to take delivery of a car but that only applies to new cars, not used cars. Of course, the dealer could sue them over this to take the car off their hands and pay for it but this rarely happens because dealers, probably rightfully though, are scared of bad reviews and such. However, there is something that comes close to rejecting a car in Germany, too, and that would apply to new as well as to used cars. If a car, or any other item you bought from any dealer (not necessarily a car dealer), malfunctions within the first year, the manufacturer or vendor has three attempts to fix it for good. If he fails to do so, the customer can return the item for a full refund. Maybe something similar applied in the case of the FF because JayEmm said it hat been returned to the dealer several times.

      I agree and can only afford old classic Ferrari models. My latest being a £31,000 1988 Mondial 3.2 Coupe bought from Kent High Performance in Oct 2019 with 68,000 miles on it. I’ve had 4x 308GT4’s and a 1993 Mondial 3.4 previously since 1985. From experience the low mileage cars were bad news hence buying a high mileage car but the history file on mine is amazing detailing it back into the last 25 years! My car became “fully run-in” about 18 months ago and the engine became smoother. It really purrs along but is devastatingly fast in-gears! Wonderful. I’m up to 70,600 miles now with Ferrari Racing Days this weekend 18/19 Sept 2021 at Silverstone & it will be on an Owners’ track sprint too!! Fantastic last year! (The low-mileage 1993, Mondial 3.4 before was a costly engine-out to service model like the 355 & Testarossa & mega costly to service! Leaking rear shocks & a new Cat at £2,790 meant a swift good-bye!! ). Buy high mileage but with Full History & make sure your servicing is done by experienced guys who know the model. Not all Main dealers have guys who know the old cars. I wouldn’t want a new Ferrari & worry about mileage! On one of my 308 GT4’s I did 50,000 miles in 8 years and it had 98,500 on it when sold. It then re-appeared at a 40k mileage when I met a new owner who did not have the full history file! A big whole history file is essential. Mike Wheeler at Rardley Motors does great history files on the cars he sells!

However, lets be honest, Ferrari gremlins can strike any model at any time and can be an expensive nightmare to resolve if you're unlucky. Known issues should be sorted before sale, especially at this level of purchase. Whatever they cost to fix, it's just added to the money the dealer has into the car. The total determines the price which they list the car for sale. Though that price may be higher than others on the market, once explained to the buyer, they will almost certainly recognize the value and appreciate the quality of the presentation. The last thing you want is a customer having a problem with the car, especially a known problem, shortly after they buy it. Issues and downtime can sour the experience and affect future buying decisions.
