Did you know you can do this?! 🤯 I love an ikea hack and I’m using

This is like when a cooking show host says “on lazy days when I don’t feel like cooking, alls I do is dice up these 8 vegetables, whip up a custom soup base, pluck a chicken..”
And they always name some "simple" ingredient that I have never seen in my grocery store. 🤣🤣🤣
"Did you know if you just did a bunch of carpentry and built a bookshelf, you could have a bookshelf?"
😂😂😂😂😂 right
😂😂
😂😂😂😂
So you took a bunch a bookcases to make a bookcase? Genius! 😱
😂 my exact thoughts... turned a bookcase into a bookcase.. And then transformed some white shelves into white shelves with white paint.. lol
I probably woulda liked this, if all she had done was turn them sideways and mounted them to the middle of a wall. That woulda been more transformative..
Guys, before you fill in all those inner holes - IKEA sells little cover caps that you just stick in there and can remove anytime later if needed.
You can find them in their VARIERA or KOMPLEMENT series. 😊
Thank you so much for that valuable information. You're appreciated! 💯🥰👍
If you'll fill holes with caps - holes still will be visible, and it is not idea, what is provided in this video 🤷🏻♂️
🙏Thanks
To much
@@DevBer You are making zero sense. How are holes visible if you fill it with caps.
For all that cuttin n fillin girl just get plywood 😅 so much more affordable and longer lasting than particle board IKEA sellin.
Yup, it only makes sensie if you already have those Billies or can get them for cheap/free
I was literally sitting here thinking "why not just make an actual custom bookshelf at that point?" Like if you're gonna have to go get trim and wood and paint and screws anyways😂
I'm starting to see the same items as IKEA, on Amazon for cheaper, too! Crazy!
Fact
@@daydreamerjim6603some people have to work their way up to that
You lost me at the third "AND" 😆
😂😂😂
Well like you know she like is soooo cool like you know
She lost me at cut this, cut that 😂😂
They sell kits to attach multiple units side by side at ikea.
Lol
L😂L Good to know
But then how would the world know that you're a diy-er with a TH-cam channel?
@@amandabot58 As a content creator I feel guilty for laughing at your comment buuuut... 🤣😂😅😭💀 #facts
I still don't get why 2x4's were needed .. just use appropriately sized screws.. 1-1/4 will be long enough to bite into both layers and hold them together. Or drill through at one of the predrilled holes and connect with the bolts that Ikea will happily provide .
I love how it went from white to white. Makeover.
Y’all are ruthless 😂😂
It was a nice white though 😅
lol, it was a greyish white previous. I would have repainted it a dif white myself..
🤣
Excuse me, but it went to salt water white 🤣
Millennials like everything to look like a mental hospital. White on white on white
More like “Did you know I can do this?!” It’s beautiful & you’re very talented in skill & ideas.
Omg the dust in between the shelves 😭
she thought of that too. white satin duck tape ..take about a roll, an tape across the gap in a X pattern, then some longer pieces to tape over the x's along each side of the cases🧑🔧👩🏭👷♀️
You comment is so true. IKEA products won't last at all and they are pretty expensive if you can make your own with better plywood.
You don't need the upright trim. It's just extra, unnecessary, work. IKEA provide the bolts that connect multiple units together
She might have done it like that fill in the space where the shelves were going.
Yes, it might be unnecessary, yet it depends on the wanted ascetic. One very important safety issue is to use L-brackets.
@@lovealwaysmomYes this needs to be DRILLED (pun intended) home every time vids like these are made. It's boring point but saves a trip to the ER (don't ask me how I know LOL).
True, but this has a better feel to it. My first thought was “why?”. But honestly I can see this as a good compromise between feel, utility, cost, skills, and effort. Shes not gonna keep it forever, but it will hold up and feel comfy for as long as she needs it to.
I give it a thumbs up.
Its part of the look ffs
Did you know that if you screwed three shelves together you surprisingly get a bigger bookshelf? 🤯
😭😭😭
Yes. Yes, we did know.
Bahahaha
Exactly 😂
She did a little more than that, sir😳.
Wow looks good great!! Funny thing is I picked up two of the bigger billy bookcase and was wondering how to connect them and add molding, so I'm glad you actually made this video now I know how to do it 😊 thank you for sharing
Notice her top trim piece sticks out? Put the outer wood trim on 1st, then cut the inside vertical trim pieces to fit using the outer pieces as the guide. Everything will be flush. Unless you want a top decrative trim piece that looks like crown mould, add it after.
You don't need the spacers between the shelves.
Im not sure where to get it, but look for part number 100644. It is like a bolt but threaded on the inside. Google it to see what it ti.
Take the top and bottom shelf holes on the sides you want to join, and drill through so the holes go all the way. Yiu push this from the inside of one shelf, and then line it up so it goes from the outside to the inside of the other shelf, and put a small (100402 I think) bolt in from the other end.
This is what ikea uses for wardrobes and other furnature where multiple cabinets need to be joined.
Beautiful!
They sell hardware for joining the units. They cost nearly nothing and are invisible. Thats the point of Ikea, design functionality. Faffing about with their products defies the point.
IKEA has gotten so expensive since inflation hit (at least in Europe)
In Canada also
Here in America too but I still love their pieces.
And the 3 different orders ive made over the last couple years.. the quality is terrible.. is it just the shelving I bought, or their usual quality?
Yeah. I went to a German IKEA for the first time since before Covid recently and I was shocked at the prices. I basically furnished my whole flat way back when with IKEA (15-20 years ago) and it was quite affordable, back then.
I have since switched to getting whatever possible second hand, but I needed something specific from them and took the 'whole tour' through the different departments. A lot of the stuff is really quite expensive, for what it is. I mean, even their real wood pieces, like the Hemnes series, are just 'soft wood' (spruce?), so not exactly meant to stand the test of time.
I mean, yeah, you can take them apart and transport (resell) them, but they won't look 'as new', afterwards. There will be dents and scratches, because the wood is just very soft. Not like beech or oak or such, which were traditionally used for furniture for 'adults'.
Of course, both wood and energy prices have been very high, these last couple years. So these prices might just be, what they need to charge. 🤷🏻♀️
I prefer target these days
I don't understand why people take away the ability to adjust shelves...
Good job but I hate the material they are made of! Id rather get wood or that higher grade plywood.
Same
Where are you getting your plywood? This is $300 worth of grade A to build this
Yes. Ikea does this in there store and show you how.
It's all about representation and presentation. Maybe she could probably get paid to be an Ikea marketing affiliate🤓👍🏼
Maybe. Not sure how other Ikea stores around the globe. But here in Sweden they hold workshops and show you how you can do different things with there products.
Great idea! Using two on each side of my fireplace, I am using scalloped molding on the top and beveled on the bottom. With books lining the shelves, it looks as though they were built-in by the original builder!!😊
Nuc! How much did it cost you please?
@patriciashears25
4 bookcases =$280 / Molding = $85. / 4 Doors covering the bottom two shelves = $0 ( salvaged from another project) Glass Knobs = $0 ( salvaged from old cabinets) TOTAL = $365 / Result = Looks like original built-ins $$$$$! They helped transform an old boxy living room into a gracious formal living room.
SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL
Great job! I like that you made spacers to custom fit that wall. Love the open discussion , keep the ideas flowin!
If they can be custom, why not go to ceiling length? This is going to be a major dust collector.
I love this idea & she's so talented! You're also right! I bought a couple Arhaus bookshelves from an estate sale a yr ago. I love them, but I am constantly dusting the top. If I don't, then my whole house gets dusty. Esp w/ a golden who loves to get muddy! 🙄🤷🏼♀️
I'm also being a bit dramatic about the how dusty my house can get because I'm very OCD, esp when cleaning.
thank you!!! the DIY dust is real
I just saw this home hack short on YT earlier today to simplify cleaning the dust collecting at the tops of cabinets or shelving units like this when they don’t extend to the ceiling; line the top with a strip of paper towels or newspaper then clean up is just a matter of rolling up the power towel/newspaper strip and replacing with another strip of either.
@@savvyt978Wow... cool! Very good idea! 😃😀😊👍🏼 Really! 😊
@@savvyt978THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I DO WITH ALL THE KITCHEN CUPBOARD TOPS. AMAZING HOW GREASY AND DUSTY THEY GET.
NICELY DONE!
Thanks for sharing this.
Turned my billy bookshelf into a floor desk. Works like a charm
Elaborate?
@@ThineLesser turned it on its side and took out the shelves, stuck it on some cube modules I have from decades ago, and bam! 2 layered desk, raised monitors, space for keyboard and other work items…. And storage underneath. Desk
I wish I was this creative 😂❤❤
Looks great.😊
It really looks great and definitely looks more upgraded and elevated than just the individual shelves. Beautiful wall unit
omg, girl, you seriously rock!!
Bro, she screwed together bookshelves to make them bigger lol literally anyone could have (and have already) thought of and done this lol
This right here is a genius idea! Thanks for sharing!
"Let's appreciate creativity. What's easy for you may not be simple for someone else. Be kind."
Why.
Why is the text in quotes, who are you quoting?
I think in this case, it's the reverse of that quote though...like...WE'RE the amateurs here looking at this video like, "If I could build a custom bookcase, I'd just build one...But I'm a mere mortal who doesn't own a table saw or a nail gun so..."
You simply save me so much money. I’m going to do this in my closet for my extensive collection of Easter bunnies. 🐰 ty.
Sweet!! I LOVE your nickname!! We have 5 cats, 1 dog and I have cats that I'm fostering. 😊 Kim
I’ve been looking for DIY hacks for my Billy shelves and this is so cute!!
You are one very smart girl, and love your work.
Awesome! I’m going to have to try this.
In other news, pray for me. My husband has convinced me to go along with his (probably insane idea) of painting our kitchen cabinets with car paint and the sprayer he uses on cars! The sprayer itself doesn’t really worry me but idk how car paint is going to work on wood?!
It will. You'll be amazed, and the finish will last beautifully forever.
@@lindapayeur3621can I use special car paints a la pimp my ride? 😂🤔
I've seen it done on a dresser. It looks
shellac' d-- super shinny. It was gorgeous.
Great idea! I actually have two book shelves I might just try this out! Thanks for sharing!
Fabulous job! You are so talented and handy! 🌿
What a nice person. She made a home for spiders in between those spaces. 😬
Did you know spiders can live anywhere? I don’t know what your point is…but it’s giving bitter.
I like spiders. They kill other bugs that I don’t want around 😂
Omgg you right
That’s so nice of her to provide them a safe space, spiders eat creepy crawlers!
@@BaldCoryxKenshinfan "Helper spiders"? That's what my mom calls them lol.
You did it again , every video you do I’m freakin amazed love it ❤❤
of course you can do that ! You can even do that from scratch with plywood or MDF
Yesss 💓 but ngl she made that process sound so long 😂😂
Wow!! You painted a white bookshelf white! How amazing!
Did you know that if you wanted book shelves, just go buy a bookshelf at the store
Or use all the wood and tools you bought at home depot to make the whole thing. She already spent $500 for wood, paint and tools.
Did you know that if you have nothing polite to say, you can just not comment? Not everyone wants to settle for what’s commercially available.
Imagine trying to crap on someone’s creative energy just because you have bitter main character syndrome🙄.
@@swvolleyball9137 We are trying to help people who might try this by. It will take less energy and you will get something much nicer at a furniture store. But if you want to save money, what she already bought is almost enough to make the shelves without the Ikea bookshelves. We aren't mean, just practical and helpful. A lot of creators do 5 minutes crafts to build their channel and there is nothing wrong with that. They are getting views and engagement. Our helpful comments, which you think are mean, are also helping this creator because YT likes engagement. A like, dislike, nice comment, mean comment, neutral comment, all put money in her pocket. If I was mean, I would scroll away and not give her this engagement. She seems like a nice person and I would be happy to see her channel take off.

You’re amazing and so creative 👍
I did not know that. Did you know I’m not doing all of that though? No seriously, they look great! I wish I were that creative and handy!!
Great job sweetie!!! 😃
I hear your beautiful new puppy!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Okay. I’m impressed with her actually doing this by herself. Most women would rather have it done by a man. Good job young lady. I love seeing women who have learned to use tools properly.
Thank you!!
Did you know that you can buy a better shelf even cheaper at Ikea? No? What a surprise.
Inspiring. Especially as a woman. Wonderful work ❤
Looks awesome!! .. 🥰
..
..and you can make an entry way closest or a bedroom closet for clothes, shoes or for purse storage.❤️
That's what I thought it was going to be. For a mud room
@@kandie6886 yes that would have been a really good video, too..
And that's one of the things about these book shelves. there are soo many things you can do with them!
I just Love how people create some of the most beautiful storage solutions!
Nice. You are awesome and don't EVER let anyone tell you differently.
Fantastic job, girlfriend!! I'm at a loss for words.
I was actually thinking of making my own room divider. I would need everything, but I hazaed it would ultimately be cheaper in the long run.
How was painting? What kind of paint did you use? I need a pantry and I'm considering customizing some billy bookcases.
Looks fantastic!
Use Kilz primer. It preps all types of surfaces and makes the paint adhere perfectly. I have used it for decades on the same type of finish as these bookcases, and plastic, raw metal, bricks, etc. I swear by it! Good luck 😊
Amazon sells "cabinet" paint, no primer necess. I used it to update tons of wood cabinets in a 3000 sq ft home. Its pricey but it covers easily, like a dream- 1 coat, AND a little goes a long way, it spreads so nice. It dries quickly too. Can roll it or use a brush. Its not like regular wall paints.
Looks stunning! very nice idea!
Ohhh this is awesome, thank you, looks so great !! I would have so much fun decorating the top too with plants, vessels, pictures etc 😅❤
Wowww i love you work!!
❤❤
Awesome job! Thanks
Wonderful idea. Thank you for sharing. I love it.
Yeah but I can’t be arsed.
Beautiful unit ❤
the part that makes a huge difference and makes it look like its really a built in shelf is removing the existing baseboard behind it, raising up the shelves to baseboard level, and installing new baseboard around the shelves.
LOVE ! ❤☺️🥰
I did know that.
But I enjoyed hearing you tell me anyway.
👍🏼👍🏼❤❤ That looks beautiful ❣️
