  • “Two Singapores” may emerge if more is not done to fight against inequality, Singapore's Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh told Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 22). Kicking off the parliamentary debate on the 2023 Budget statement, the Workers’ Party (WP) chief called this potential emergence a threat that has "loomed large on the horizon in the last few years", and one that may become reality.

    I am so worried about my son with learning disability.
    How he is going to survive after me.
    He could not even tie his shoe laces. Yet they made him do NS.
    Was bullied there. Now he is on medication for depression. Has ptsd.
    Cannot get rider for hospitalisation.
    How stupid can the system be to not recognise a disability because it is not Austism or down syndrome.
    He was diagnosed with a high disparity between verbal IQ and performance lQ.
    Reports from 3 clinical psychologist and yet thrown into NS.
    Now will they take resposiblity for his condition and take care of him?
    Of course not.

      There are smaller systems in place, besides the big mammoth system for the majority, that caters for SN children. One is SN schools. Another is where parents study SN ways of grooming their kids to facilitate their learning. Some working companies do employ SN staff with on-job learning like Hans restaurant, McDonalds, etcetera.

    4:06 true, inequality begins in our schooling system, specifically by the PSLE streaming 12 year olds based on 4 subjects, prematurely, and failing to recognise their natural abilities & talents. For example, those who r weak in English or math, may hv brains that incline toward design, digital, verbal expressions, leadership quality etc… condemning hundreds of thousands of 12 yo normal streams is demoralising.🙁

    • @krollpeter
      @krollpeter ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's an important point. When my son joint primary school, I was taken by surprise to learn they have literally only 4 real subjects. We detected in terms of general knowledge, such as science subjects, geography and history he was way behind the German school at the similar grade. He visited a German school as a guest.
      Even now, at S2 level, he is literally years behind in certain subjects. When the German kids learn about the world, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, etc., he learns about Poton Pasir and Temasek. And arts is replicating a certain task which is given by the teacher, but nothing much creative.
      I understand now a lot better why Singapore's international schools educate what the local schools claim, i.e. broader general knowledge, holistic education, thinking broader and ahead.

    No Thanks to the PAP, the Sunshine Bread has increased from normally $3.30 to today I noticed at $3.90, a whopping $0.60 cents increase or 18.18% increase which can be attributed to the multiplying effects of the recent GST hike of 1%.
    So the Pertinent Question is;
    When the PAP said GST Hike will not hurt the poor, were they basing on the 1% hike OR the Overall multiplying effect on the Price?
    These days, its getting harder to trust anything they say.

    • @balloonbuster
      @balloonbuster ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hike of 1% from 7% = over 14%. Then with added "legalize" profiteering practice ended up 18%. Now buying overseas online also need to pay GST tax. Does the tax dollar goes to the government or those overseas merchants? What stop those merchants under reporting and keep the remainder.
      Next year another hike, another increase. Good luck.

    • @Niatnuom_Esiotrot
      @Niatnuom_Esiotrot ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, you are right, in the real world the prices do not increase by 1%, there is a multiplying effect, and it will almost certainly overcompensate. The GST vouchers payouts are too low because it treats GST increase as a technical calculation rather than taking into account real life increases.

    • @ttkoh123
      @ttkoh123 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Niatnuom_Esiotrot For Clarity, The Multiplying Effects imply the GST Hike applies on everything for example on the ingredients cost example, 1% more on sugar, 1% more of soya sauce, 1% more on Electricity, 1% more on Rental, 1% more on oil, 1% more on Petrol, 1% more on transport etc to prepare the food. ALL THESE REVENUES ARE COLLECTABLE BY THE GOVT, not the Seller, So it is NOT 1% but multiples of 1%. The easiest to compare is to compare with equivalent Johore supermarket price for example [NOT NTUC].

    • @Niatnuom_Esiotrot
      @Niatnuom_Esiotrot ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ttkoh123 I understand what you are saying. We are talking about different types of multiplication, but eventually the conclusions are the same, as in the price increases is not 1%. Your multiplication is via snowballing accumulation of increases. What I am saying is not just that it is accumulating, the increases per time has a minimum value, and this minimum value might exceed the technical value of 1%.

    Life is bleak in Singapore, there is only work & work for a salary that is increasingly getting weaker due to rising inflation. "Affordable" housing is now a lifelong payment commitment, after paying housing loans, and various other necessities, we are only left with a pittance amount of money that can be put into savings and investing, making a dignified retirement a hope for many rather than a feasible reality. What used to a strategy of owning several properties for investment is now no longer feasible for most, investing in local properties is now only for the rich. This gap will only continue as the government focuses on making Singapore an attractive place for the rich instead of making it a place where average Singaporeans can be proud to call home.

    there is this design philosophy in game design... the higher your character level up, the harder in nature and more in points to accumulate to up level as the level up goes on (for eg 500pts to level up from 1 to 2 but would need 40k around level 30 to 31). should everything be uniform, the gap between starting players and old players would get uncontrollably wider and nobody new coming in to play it anymore and the game dies. The widening of gaps would still be there but it will give better incentives for people behind to catch up.

    A few days ago I made an observation that Singapore is not lacking in terms of news and views from another perspective. The good oppositions and non partisan Singapore pap haters work relentlessly on all pap msm to made sure Singaporeans are not brainwashed and poisoned by doctrines.
    What Singapore lacks however is a prominent face and figure. Someone who the nation can immediately recognize and think of if people want to overthrow pap.
    For years the nation of Singapore and her per people can't move past the stage of being under the grasp of the pap because they have no one else in life if they abandon pap. That is what they think and believe all these years.
    Singapore needs a revolutionary leader to step up to lead the people out of the darkness.
    This Pritam Singh has that potential.
    Anyone who is willing to stick their identity and face out while exposing pap wrong doings is a strong candidate for setting Singapore back on its correct path in life.

    • @yusufbest4475
      @yusufbest4475 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      First of all mr pritam himself will disagree with you. Secondly, revolutionary leader needs more than just able to talk and debate. Thirdly, there is no need for revolution. There is peace and low crime in Singapore. There is meritocracy in singapore. Lastly, opposition even if they win all their seats, cannot form a govt and that shows a lack of political credibility. If you want a revolution just because you feel sian, thats not gonna cut it

    • @anglo-saxonconnor817

      @@yusufbest4475 No you are wrong. In Singapore you need a face and identity so that Singaporeans can know where to find you when they are in trouble.
      The problem with Singapore's political landscape is there are a lot of ghost writers with the good 9nes being able to accurately point out pap wrong doings in life but they are of no real help to the people in reality at all because people can't reach them nor can people have a trustable figure to turn to.
      In Singapore if you think about appearing only when general elections are coming and you can win people votes over this way you will be very disappointed. This is an ineffective method as past electoral results and patterns have shown but you all keep doing the same thing over and over again.
      Not to mention the pap will go full force using their media and grassroot to fix the oppositions during elections as well as send moles and saboteurs into all parties to cause sabotage to the parties reputation and credibility.
      Every five years you all can see these easily for yourselves.
      You need a brave person who cares strongly about Singapore to stand against pap onslaught and the dirty tricks they throw at your direction to prevail.
      A hard battle I know but it cannot be avoided. Only this way can sing5and her people can be saved from the tyranny of pap.

      i think you dont know the definition of tyranny.. Singapore is not the ideal country but it is far away from tyranny. It is just a small country that has find a way to survive despite lack of natural resources and a small pool of talent. Yeah, political freedom can be improved but its not too bad. There are pros to those limitations as well such as the curbing of radicalism and disharmony. As I say, there is peace, low crime, there is meritocracy, there is a lot of conveniences like mrt, good drinking water.. the reason most opposition failed is because they are not credible in the first place. Yeah PAP is a giant and if you want to challenge a giant, you have to be a giant or bigger. Can pritam singh unite the opposition or call pap ministers to join his party? I dont see that happening so.. I think that it is a delusion to think of tyranny or revolution when it comes to singapore.. maybe improvement..anyway, im just a common singaporean and this is just my 5 cents :)

    • @anglo-saxonconnor817
      @anglo-saxonconnor817 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      To summarize your line of thinking and value. You are accustomed to the way of life as a commoner in Singapore and as long as there is food,safety and meritocracy in Singapore you can live with pap most of the time. At most you will only ask for improvement but whether pap as they grow stronger will listen to it is another story together.
      You are not wrong actually. You are just used to staying in your comfort zone. The environment and way of life that pap has built and created for you.
      There is only one flaw in people like you. The inability to see once meritocracy and political power is secured by what they can use from that point onward to take themselves upward.
      Aka as apathy in life.
      For decades pap ibs have used this trait to groom and train people in order to keep them under control. You are the result of their social conditioning.
      I want to see a revolution in these areas which they have monopolized for years. This is the difference between you and me. Because you don't see the seriousness and worth in these issues.
      But those are big money and power. Both which can be fairly redistributed to make Singapore even better not just for the pap affiliates but for the whole instead.
      We are not quarreling here. I don't see you as a ib isee you as a real person so that's why we are having this exchange here. I understand where you are coming from and likewise I hope you will understand where I'm coming from too.
      If you can try to look beyond that comfort zone and see how they are living and using what kinds of means to sustain it. Much of the cracks that are appearing now in sg are because of this rot. It might not seem serious and apparent enough for you right now but when it does it might be too late to stop it.
      If a rot can be nip early on it shouldn't be left to advance.

    • @anglo-saxonconnor817
      @anglo-saxonconnor817 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Anyway your likes in your post will eclipse mine. In Singapore pap see worker party as their biggest threat in life and when members of wp names are mentioned in a good light the attacks and votes of no confidence will pour in strongly. (The ibs will always look down on wp and remind everyone they are under investigation even though they are not guilty of any charged verdict.)
      I don't take offence in your post as I find it reasonable to certain extents but your post and beliefs will help those who will use it to further cement a lasting negative impression on opposition parties and members in Singapore resulting in minimal changes in Singapore political landscape which is what they want the whole time.
      I give you an example.
      We must never let oppositions get into parliament.
      But some of them have already made it into parliament meaning our control over the populace has weakened. We cannot let them grow stronger anymore.
      Any prominent and visible names not belonging to the pap side will be regularly smeared to attack on their growing popularity and credibility.
      This is what is currently going on in your country Singaporeans. If I can see it there is no reason why you all can't then.
      Good luck Singaporeans. Maybe some of you think I'm over stressing on pap flaws more than their merits the whole time but to me Singapore is just too small. If you allow pap to continue to simply use foreign influx to solve your country domestic problems away at a surface level all the time instead of doing a real structural change then in the end it is you yourselves who suffer in Singapore.
      It's not a joke living and ageing in such a small city state with millions in it. You could have a choice to avert and change this if you are willing to exercise your citizen rights more often in life.
      That is how I see things in life.

    Two Singapores?
    The Great Asia didn't tell you that Singapore is ONE-COUNTRY-TWO-SYSTEM?
    Divide the population of the country into two halves, let's call the first half the "Landlord", and the next half the "Peasant". The Peasant works for the Landlord and makes them richer. The landlord then uses the new wealth to acquire more lands. What do you think would happen to the children and grandchildren of the Peasant?
    More than 50% of future generations will be born in HDB-4rm flats and trapped in HDB 4-rm flats for life.
    In the past decade, PAP has built so many little HDB flats and condos. There will be a huge angst from Singaporeans who are not able to upgrade to a bigger living space.

      You mean churning money? $1 in a bank can be churned into $8 economically. Then distribution by equal opportunities by sheer hard work both physically and mentally would ensure more acceptance.

      How do you add on non-economical aspects of living like social and spiritual pursuits without throwing away the pragmatic economic necessities? Even religious institutions are thriving on economic terms. For example, try religious study in hot humid SG without the comfort of air-con procured by economic means.
