- Little Infant Orangutan Arga loves getting up to mischief with his older sisters
This funny animals video features the Sumatran Orangutan family at Chester Zoo during their lunch time scatter feed in the Monsoon Forest indoor Habitat. Siska decides to build her bed for an afternoon relax after Lunch, she carefully spends time burrowing out the soft bark chippings the replicate the forest floor. After meticulously moving the chippings she proceeds to arrange a sack to lie on
When the bed is finally made she lies down and instantly gets her bed crashed by her little brother Arga who has spotted the opportunity to create mischief!
This video was recorded in 2022 and the orangutans have grown up so much since.

Sumatran Orangutans are Endangered
In this video the Sumatran Orangutan family are indoors in the monsoon forest habitat.
The orangutan family like to spend time indoors in their specifically designed habitat and They also have access all day to 2 large, well planted outdoor areas, with many trees, plants, shrubs, climbing poles, hammocks and ropes. They freely move between the indoor and outdoor areas and tend to spend more time outdoors in good weather.
Sumatran Orangutans are an endangered species of Great Ape, threatened to the edge of extinction, due to the ongoing destruction of the Environment in their native homeland of The Indonesian Island of Sumatra. The destruction of their native forests is largely to make way for the planting of palm oil, which is used in the manufacture of many products in developed nations, such as food products and cleaning products.
Baby Orangutans at Chester Zoo
Chester Zoo is the only Zoo in the UK to House and Care for Sumatran Orangutans. They are part of the breeding program for this important and vulnerable species, ensuring there is a strong genic population in zoos and wildlife centres across the world, essential for the future survival of these magnificent animals.
These rare Sumatran Baby Orangutans are absolutely adorable and so much fun to watch, Young Sumatran Orangutans interact with each other and learn from the behaviours of other Orangutans in their Family group.

Chester truly has some of the most beautiful Sumatran Orangutans. They all have gorgeous hair, aside from Arga's little bald spot, lol😂. (My youngest daughter had a bald spot on the back of her head when she was little from rubbing her head back and forth in her car seat, and crib when she was tired. I despaired of her ever growing hair there, lol!!!) I just think it goes to show how well they are cared for that they have such spectacular coats!!!🙌♥️🙌

Siska is 6? She is quite accomplished at nest-building. Instead of bending branches high in the trees, she scoops bark chips, which shows how adaptable and intelligent orangutans are. Little Arga is hilarious crashing his sister’s peaceful rest. I’m glad he didn’t force her to give up her nest.

I was just watching an old Nature Bites where Tutti became a big sister. Breaking the record for smallest amount of time between births in captivity. In the wild, odds are she would becoming a sister for the first time now instead of 7 years ago. Thats so crazy to think about! Not judging or zoo bashing here. When a species is critically endangered, every orangutan is vital. In captivity or the wild.
