Rhythm Roulette: Organized Noize

- On the latest episode of Rhythm Roulette, Mass Appeal presents Organized Noize at the iconic Stankonia Studios. While the trio came up making sample-based hip hop, they quickly learned the real secret was creating everything from scratch (not to mention those royalty checks get a little fatter). However, they welcomed our challenge with such conviction that we knew nothing less than a banger was coming out of the studio by the end of the night.
What can be said about Organized Noize that isn't already evident in the legacy of their production discography? Paving the way for breakout acts like TLC, OutKast, and Goodie Mob, there's no denying Ray Murray, Rico Wade, and Sleepy Brown are the foundation of Atlanta hip hop.
Pulling from the Four Tops, Thin Lizzy, and Millie Jackson, ONP had to eventually set the records aside because there was too much to sample. While the final result is an 808-heavy, atmospheric production stamped with the crew's signature soulful grooves, we got the sense they'll be saving this one for something special, as they quickly told their engineer to stop recording once Sleepy laid down the bassline. The records were quickly tucked away; Ray, Rico, and Sleepy smirked as if they'd stumbled upon buried treasure. Trust, a fire was sparked in the studio than night. Here's to hoping it isn't extinguished anytime soon.

Came back to watch this again ...RIP Rico man! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Me too 😢 🙏🏽🙏🏽
🙏🏾❤️🕊️
RIP Rico Wade 🙏🏻
These cats are probably the most underrated producers in the entire genre of rap. Like people forget they were producing on underground records and producing on tracks that went diamond (which is 10 million records sold) and they are completely free of the obnoxiousness that probably should come with guys that have been as successful. Fr These dudes made so many f**kin dope records. Organized Noise in their prime in terms of the genre of rap were akin to the Nile Rogers, the Quincy Jones's, the Brian Eno's and the George Martin's of the culture. When I watched their documentary on Netflix I was blown to bits by the fact they were using live instrumentation on those early Outkast and Goodie Mob records. These guys are the South's true kings in terms of hip hop production. The Native Tongue's should be proud!
There wouldn't be a "waterfalls" without them.
By Diamond record do you mean SpeakerBoxxx, because they no production on that Album.
I was just about to say this. Geniuses, man.
They are the Greatest Bro!!! NOBODY made music like their Collective
Chilanta besides Outkast and Goodie Mob, they went in on Sleepys Theme and Society Of Soul!! I mean it took you for a ride
mass appeal should release all these beats in a compilation cd
+boob slime On vinyl as well.
+Julian Wyllie word, vinyl would be dope.
+boob slime clearing all those samples would be fun.
welp, there goes all hope for a vinyl release.
Some people do release the beat depending how nice they are.
Rise In Power Legendary Rico Wade I had to revisit this episode and pay respects Organized Noize responsible for a classic sound your music will live on King
Rest Easy, Rico!! 🙏🏾🕊💐🙏🏾🕊💐
How can you not like these guys, they put ATL ON THE MAP! Future, TLC, Ludacris, Goodie Mob, and OutKast. You name it, they made a hit for them!
yes sir! Changed the Game
+Johnny X I swear that Goodie Mob Album, Soul Food is one of the best produced rap albums ever, such a unique sound.
They were the best of their generation...legacy man. ..
+KatalistProductions-Kozzy-Sasha super underrated
Johnny X Real talk
This is so dope. I can picture a young andre ripping this beat to shreds
Till this day I can't comprehend how a group of producers work together. I find the cratedigging and the sample finding such an introspective activity, because people have different ears and different tastes, so they always will pick different parts of the songs. I don't know if I could work with someone else besides me... It's strange.
Good vid though!
+SNOWMΛN They're musicians first, producers second. They understand the band dynamic.
+SNOWMΛN People are different.
the same way a band does
+SNOWMΛN Think about it if you have another set of ears who may have different taste in music they'll catch something you might not of even thought about using or just didn't know that there was some heat on it. Imo the dopest production team ever had to be The Bomb Squad. It takes a nation of millions had all types of music genres that was sampled and combined on that album.
+SNOWMΛN I prefer working in solitude but im friends with someone ive known for 17 years and been making music with for 15 years and musically shit just clicks, we just naturally agree 95% of the time
I LITERALLY HEARD 5 DIFFERENT BEATS IN THE PROCESS OF THE FINAL ONE. THESE DUDES ARE GODS!!!
I know. Crazy
naw fam
If you haven't done so already check out their documentary. I've always loved them, but I never knew how influential these cats were.
Right.
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥 Thank you for your contributions, Rico. Your impact has been felt worldwide. Rest in heavenly peace. 🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️🕊️
I'm just gon speak this into existence... I CANT WAIT to work with these guys. Damn, the south can put something together and make it feel like it was natural! True talent!
Still has their sound on it. I would’ve guessed it’s Organized Noize without seeing this if some1 played me the beat.
This is what the fuck we wanna see. Dope.
+Nicholas Gordon
No doubt, it's nice to see a return to the old format.
PrezPoet That probably my favorite thing about it. Sprite got their grubby hands off of it lol
+Nicholas Gordon BRUH!! I HAD NO IDEA THIS EVEN EXISTED!! WTF?!?!
Zeke Lopez then its your lucky day lol my favorite is the one with Mr. Green.
Nicholas Gordon man. My favorite(s) were black milk and Marco polo. To this day (besides cardiak) they grabbed literally the worst records and still killed it.
Living legends right here. Whenever I see "Organized Noise" on anything musical I buy it. Been a fan of theirs from day one!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been waiting since like forever to see these legends at work, now lets try get DJ Quik on, thanks

Knxledge would be a dope guest. I want to see how he makes his stuff.
+El Compadre its a secret according to Dibia$e
+99tillinfinity I think he uses abelton from videos i've seen of him. Thats all i know though, haha.
El Compadre yes, he always says he uses ableton, but what I meant is that his workflow is a secret
+99tillinfinity when did Dibiase say its a secret?
Yeah I was just thinking of this as well. I don't know if he would though, he'd give away too much of his workflow.
No matter what the haters say, Pat, Ray and Rico's track record speaks for itself! These cats can flip samples as well as solid soulful live instrumentation on tracks...not too many producers can say that!
whyyyyy doesn't Mass Appeal release these beats for us to listen to in long form? I want to listen to this beat from start to finish...and this is my fav so far!
That would probably be real tricky on the legal side of things
DJ Quik. Please!!
word
Word.
word
Thats a good one....
Word,then easy Moe b,shock g,and q-tip
This is exactly why they are Organized Noize. Classic production team.
The crew listening and unterstanding by their interactions which songs to pick and dig from, Ray laying some knowledge facing the camera while doing that. Them digging further searching for, mining, and then finding the loops and small bits they will build from. Ray doing is thing on the mpc assembling this intricate puzzle to build a great groove. Sleepy Brown knowing this is his time to shine adding his crazy bassline. Rico grooving in the back, also knowing it is time to wrap it up because he knows that this sound doesnt need more (read the description of the video, you’ll understand). That some magic team effort I just witnessed.
J.u.s.t.i.c.e League will be DOPE!
Mass Appeal not playing after the Sprite fiasco. Holy mother of pearl. Next up DJ KLC 0_0 *breathing intensifying*
+poet215 MAN THAT WOULD BE DOPE AS HELL TO HAVE KLC ON HERE!
+poet215 Sprite fiasco? Do tell.
Yohance Serrant everyone hated when they made videos at the sprite corner. Records were blurred out and the whole vibe just felt watered down
Right. Hip hop heads weren't having it.
Loved seeing them use MPC Software with an MPC Studio
their style is timeless
Rico killed em with the mask lol
Sharif Al-Amin lol

*Beats comes on* Bun B then 8 Ball no hook then Big Boi then MJG no hook Andre 3K then close with an unheard Pimp C verse. (Scarface is in there somewhere).
dumbdiddle dreams come true sometimes!!!!!!
Say mane!! Don’t play with me like that 😭😭😭
"Thank God for Pat, Ray and Ric" ....Just a dope ass LEGENDARY production team...I know this is a sampling show but not too many people can touch them on the live instrumentation...they've put together some of the funkiest cuts ever to bless hip-hop..Salute fellas!
That beat @ 5:44 had the makings of something funky!!
I could hear K.R.I.T. or Andre on this
I love the loop from 5:44 to 6:05! Wish there would be a full version of it!

They made the best beat hands down tho
If Organized Noize hangs in there, I truly believe their time will come around again. Good music is timeless and these cats were some of the best. If they find the right artists, they will be hot again.
Damn they got lucky with those records. All three of them had some heat on em.
Lol I would have been casing that joint the day before to make sure o didn't get stuck with an abba record or some shit
+motboy2 Don't sleep Abba got some joints Dancing queen is the shit. LOL
+aikens todd haha!
+aikens todd They really did.. they have had the best selection from any producers I have seen.
Yeah but Organized Noise could flip anything. They once made a really hard beat that sampled Hatsune Miku.
They do everything next level from sample chopping to layering samples to playing live instruments 🐐s
Big Krit, Big Boi, and Big Gip on the verses.. SA-RA creative partners and Thundercat on the hook... Janelle Monae on the background melodies... that's how I'd put this record together..
You trying to burn us all alive with that fire!?!
Jackey Lynch BIGG K.B.G.. Audio pimpin lounge
DOPE RHYTHM ROULETTE. I'm hella glad you dropped Sprite Corner cos we never got to hear the finished product.

You guys are gods for going to get the Dungeon Rats! Much love! DJ Toomp Next!!!
Daaaaamn! I wonder where sleepy is playing the bass sounds from... Apparently a vst or sound module.... Which one! It was great to see them work! This is the dopest rhythm Roulette.
wrekman1 I think it’s just MIDI out to that console they have with a tube amp inside. Gives it an analog sound.
OutKast and Goodie Mob legends right here Organized Noise
one of the greatest teams EVER!!
This beat is just too ill 😭🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
They should make this wayyy longer, I could listen to R.R. artists chop all day, > 30 min minimum
+HanzSygnal 6 months ago it was 15 mins long
Sending Love and Prayers Goes Out to Ray Murray, Sleepy Brown & the Whole Dungeon Family, including OutKast

Am I the only one confused why Rico was wearing a mask the whole time?! hahaha
Yes
No, I was thinking "Wtf is with the mask.. Scroll comments"
He wore mask alot back in the day. He had a show on Atlanta public TV called "Big Bad Wolf". He had strippers from the local clubs dancing on that show while he wore a wolf mask🤣🤣
Really irritating...
must be a fetish i guess
Please please please get Knxwledge on here, that would be a dream come true.
