Is my 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA a BETTER performance car with an AWE exhaust?

- My WRX STI Type RA needed to get it's fluids changed, but I also waned to do something else. Subaru has always been known for the boxer engines and the STI is very unique because of the 2.5L turbocharged flat-4 that is under the hood. I decided after 5 years of ownership to change out the exhaust. Is my 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA a BETTER performance car with an AWE exhaust?

Best car review channel on TH-cam.
Thanks for having my back.
Absolutely!! Joe too cool. I even watched a bunch of his old vids just because you tube recommended them 😎
He inspired me to give it a shot! Hopefully soon I can have access to some sweet rides like Joe.
Great to see the ra back on the channel.

As a musician, I often close my eyes to evaluate sound. The Catback exhaust is a most worthy investment, Joe!
That is so fantastic!? Thanks for sharing that!
Your enthusiasm for the STI led me to test drive and later buy a 2021 STI model. Great car. I put an Invidia Q300 on mine.
Love hearing you talk/review cars...but LOVE seeing you talk about YOUR car!!
That is so fantastic!
I run the same exact exhaust on my 21 STI. Honestly the best exhaust system to really open up the car and give it that iconic sound! It really lets people know that a Subi is driving by.
Sick sick ride. My 21 wrx came with an STI performance exhaust and i have zero complaints, incredible sound and no highway drone.
I’ve been running this same track exhaust on my 2020 STI for 3 years now! My only mod too and i still love those on ramp pulls. It’s a bit different sounding to other exhausts but sounds just as top tier. Downshifts are my favorite tho, it genuinely pops and bangs all on stock tune and everything else. I ran into the same issues with fitment but had an ‘it is what it is’ mentality. Other issues were some light bubbling watery sound on start up for a tiny bit. Not the only one as I’ve read on some forums and Reddit. I have this in socal btw and am able to drive by cops “quietly” at certain throttle and never been pulled over for it, for anyone who considers this awe track exhaust
That’s some great insight! Well done!
Much love from Kenya. Your passion for cars is amazing. You are living my dreams man! You deserve the life you are living Joe 👏🤝
Great choice Joe! I have the AWE touring on my 20 STi and it totally transformed the driving experience. With the touring I have no drone on the freeway and such a nice deep clean sound around town. It never gets old enjoy!
I'm glad to see updates on the Raiti's Rides fleet, Joe! I hope we can see an update on Big Bertha soon, brother! 🙏
Thanks brother! You got it man!
I thought Joe sold it 😮😮 he still has it 👍👌
She isn’t going anywhere
I still have mine Joe and stock exhaust also. And I will never sell it.
Joe has my dream garage. GT350R Heritage and a STI.
I’m grateful that I can share it with you
Yes of course & this is best used car to buy.
When that subie rumble hits the right spot 10:22
Raiti has good taste
I purchased a 2020 STI in October last year. Watched alot of your STI reviews, which steered me to finally pull the trigger! Love your video's 👍
Good to hear the open exhaust on an STI, as I cannot install one on my STI as it is my daily driver. It would attract too much of the wrong kind of attention.
Nice choice, the AWE exhaust really brings out that signature subie rumble! I'm really glad you're still enjoying the STI!!
This is awesome Joe. I just installed an axle back exhaust on my 2021 STi back in February and could not be happier with the sound. The best $300 I've ever spent. Otherwise it's all stock, and will remain that way. It's my daily driver and has 9600 miles and will remain low for the foreseeable future. Also in WR Blue.
I had the same issue with exhaust fitment for my invidia exhaust. Not all cars will have perfect fitment. The sound is pretty amazing. I would’ve went with Tomei for the sti for that classic jdm look. Thanks for another great video.
Got an AWE touring on my scatpack, best decision l’ve ever made since l did not wanna go with the basic straight pipe highschooler special, love the tone your impreza makes with the AWE
Glad you shared your experience Joe. I've thought about updating the exhaust on my Type RA, but up here in the often cold northeast, the rumble when it's chilly to downright cold is so much better then when it's warm, that I've kept it stock. It's been a good run with it, bit it's coming up on time to sell.
Hey Joe I love seeing you show your car collection. Please give us more of your car collection. I hope one day that you would show your mustang and the Camaro and the challenger all on one review that would be cool. Keep up the good work 😀
I will be getting that together Jeffery very soon
A quality track exhaust paired with an external wastegate on an STI is my absolute favorite
Now we are talking
i like when you show old vehicles. i still have a car i bought a few years into my Army career a 1998 m3 and it was only a few years old and it had 34,000 miles and now has 140,000 something miles and have had it for 21 years now so i love seeing your personal cars. i play hysteria by Def Leppard and it might not the fastest thing on the road but it means alot to me. it sounded good before but it sounds perfect after. not too crazy and not too soft.
Looks good in the rally blue with the gold wheels. The spoiler makes it look like a special car, and now the sound goes with the spoiler. You do get 5 extra hp for red seat belts.
I like the way that you think!
To answer your question...Dude, like totally! 👍
Fantastic
You could here that turbo whistling when outside driving away.
I completely agree on the length on the tips. I purchased a MBRP exhaust and the tips stuck out way too far. Ended up cutting off 3/4 of in off the pipes to tuck the tips in. Sounds amazing! 😊
Took you long enough! I also used Motul fluid for my recent tranny and rear differential flush. The shifts are subtly but noticeably smoother. You should add some of the JDM OEM STi parts! The BBK is amazing!
Personally I would go touring. I like my music too much and with car like that I would probably go custom tunes. Taking into account clarity. Of course.
My neighbor has the same car except in red. It would be a dream to own one someday.😍You have a nice Subie, Joe!
That is so wonderful to hear! You will get yours one day !
Sounds awesome Joe. I did an axelback, cold air intake and bypass valve upgrade on my '20 WRX and it brought the boxer engine to life.
That is so awesome man! I love the sounds of these cars!
I had the Remark Cat back on my 20 STI. I have the same setup on my 23 WRX and its definitely the best modification for any boxer, almost needed in my opinion. We'll be hearing each other im sure.
I'm glad you updated the exhaust
Way better than the stock exhaust. Get to hear more noise
Heck yes
That sounds so good Joe! Love the Subi content, just picked up a 23 WRX Limited in WRB. Can't beat this color ❤
Love the sound. The rumble the whistle. Love it.
That Subie rumble.
AWE track sounds awesome, its one of the louder ones. Great choice Joe.
Personally I would have gone for Subaru made performance exhaust D441SVA100 for the RA model. Limited production model should be kept with Genuine Parts but that's just me.
I kind of want a Subaru sti as my daily now 😁 sounds great 👍🏼
Eargasm for sure! 🔥🔥
AWE has some of the best exhaust on the market, great choice and awesome ride! RIP WRX STI
It does sound great and I initially was going to get an AWE for my 2019 STi but I ended up going Tomei Ti because I heard too many stories about quality issues with the AWE. I was hoping to hear that their quality control had improved since I looked into it a few years ago, but I guess not. The Tomei sounds amazing and is super light!
You did it right for sure!
Glad you still have it.
Very nice Joe !! On throttle Yeeaaahh !!
Heck yeah
Great looking and sounding car. What about the a fourth taillight? They really catch the attention of the person following you, less likely to get rear ended. The F1 style flicker is cool too.
That is a great idea Kevin!
I put a AWE Touring exhaust on my 22 BRZ. Love it!!
I have a 2018 limited in dark grey metallic. It's an amazing vehicle and I highly encourage none of you to buy one so that I can buy them all.
The guys at MotoIQ know how to transform these cars.
I will have to look into them

More sti content please you are great ❤
Congratulations, you are a true enthusiast guy 👌🏽 and keep collecting Japanese cars 🇯🇵 see you in tokyo next year
Im planning on doing this to my bugeye 2005 wrx. Gonna find one that's not too loud. The boxer engines sound so good
You will love it!
I miss my STI. I had an RK titanium exhaust on mine 😢 I had a 2021 STI limited that I traded for a 24 Camaro 2SS 1LE.
Terribad
that is a wonderful car Joe. keep taking good care of it and the best of luck. 👍 I love it, great video Joe 💯
Definitely best car.
It sounds sweet Joe 👌, I just had an eargasm 👍
one of my favorite videos from you!!! love wrx's
Nice sounds. Any recommendations to replace my cat back on my TRD Camry 2022?
Oh man, I thought you sold it Joe. Makes my day knowing you still have it! My 21 Sti is completely stock & a garage queen-only has 2900k on her. 😁🤣
Apostle Joe, I thought you were gonna review a brand new vehicle but this is an awesome.
I like to bring them all to you!
@@RaitisRidesYeah
Depends on the dealership, some wouldn’t void the warranty, just have the customer pay for it
That is a dealership you don't want to go to.
Love your taste in Cars.
Great minds think a like
I went catless catback, was sweet and loud, best thing you can singularly do is an E85 map, run her as far as you can afford.
That is great advice
Addicted to the channel, seriously!
My favorite thing subaru glory that engine note
Car looks great Joe.
I really appreciate that
That’s a nice sound.. 🔥🔥🔥 aggressive and powerful.
Sounds super nice!
I appreciate you saying that
Sounds fantastic.
I’m so glad that you think so
Sounds a lot better than stock. Head turner for sure. :)
Thanks man for saying that!
Awe is the best brand I have it in my gr86
Sounds great!
I appreciate that
Awesome video. Your type RA is a beauty and it sounds fantastic with that new exhaust 👍
I bought a used 2021 STI about a year ago (thus fullfilling a dream that started in the mid 90's). I absolutelly love the car ❤ It's bone stock and I plan on keeping it that way, appart maybe from an exhaust for that legendary subie rumble.
Do you think the AWE Touring is similar to stock in terms of loudness ? The track one seems a bit too loud for me.
Thanks for your video and all your work !
Joe and Lori and Steve keep up the good work real true and I love the video real true 👍
You are awesome my friend
Love The 5 Percent Tint Thats What i Have
Put a titanium Cobb cat back on it. Love mine! Just the right amount of rumble.
That was a second option.
I have the AWE Touring and it sounds amazing! I haven't had any issues with fitment like you did though.
Awesome, it’s not crazy loud at least 🤙🏽
Yeah I did not want it to be just obnoxious.
LOVE your Subie!! I'm getting my brothers 2002 bug eye subaru in blue like yours. Clean with rpf1s wheels :D
Oh man that is awesome!
Love your Subie! Do you think we will ever see another STI ever again?
It isn't looking good.
That would’ve been a tough call for me to make. I would’ve left it bone stock for no other reason than “just because” it’s an RA 😂
Yeah, that stock sound definitely didn't match that rear wing 😁
I'm curious now how it'll be with an intake. Try one out and lets see. 👍
You got it
Looks tight, and right. Nice car. 💙✌️
Those wheels are hot.
The rest of the car is too, but you know what I mean.
Trust me Insure do
If you're doing expensive exhaust, you might as well just go stage 2 and do an intake, downpipe and tune to get the most out adding the exhaust.
lol it’s a bit more complicated than that. For intake and downpipe you also need a fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator at minimum for the 2015+. Even then you injectors will hit 97-98% duty cycle in the upper rpm’s not ideal. To run the intake dp combo with a good safety margin you need some injectors. The 1050’s will cut your idc from 98% to 56 %.
Stay tuned
With a stock car the Track edition is great. After i built my engine, the Track was so loud I needed ear plugs in the car 😆 switched to touring for that reason
That sounds amazing for sure!
I think mufflers instead of muffler deletes is better, because with mufflers you can achieve a more refined sound, if you have no mufflers the sound can be too aggressive and too loud, that's just what I think though
That's mnore like it sounds fantastic... proper deep and throaty this is how we have our UK Scooby's! Superb and sounds quality and not cheap! Probably get a hand full of bhp more as well Can't believe how badly it lined up though originally and you 100% made the right choice cutting and moving it around... there's nothing worse on a mint car having a wonky exhaust!!!
at least you’re puttin miles into the car😂😂😂 great car raiti! that car sounds amazing
Sheeeshhh🤤. .When the subie sound is hitting juuussst right 18:47 - 18:58👌🏽😫😩
you should lower it a bit on some kw-V3 coilovers and do a cobb intake and axcess port
I like the way you think
Sounds really good Joe ❤
HKS is a popular exhaust for the WRX. What's the difference between HKS and AWE?
Love the Subie purr
I'd love to get one of these cars or even older. I feel it would be fun to use it as my daily driver.
They are a ton of fun
Warms my heart that Rati has a subaru. Just like me :)
Looks and sounds great Joe
Bravo 👏👏👏👏👏
From a performance standpoint the ets catback would be better as it doesn’t have the bottle neck at the midpipe to dp flange like the awe does.
That Type RA is going to be the next "OH LOOK A SUPRA!!" but it'll be "OH LOOK A SUBI!!!"
