Thank you for viewing Bulgaria with your hearts. Sofia changed a lot and our important economical capital but also Plovdiv our cultual capital and Varna our maritime one. You can travel from one end to the other maybe 17km in Slofia and pay only 0,80€ with the cool and clean metro. Do not expect smiles like in Spain, but there are luckily still cool people. Yes, food in BG is so tasty because it is a very arable land and used to even feed the Soviets during commism times. The beaches are maybe not like the Greek, but still very fine sand or clean water or rocky beaches in the north but with very nice views. The ski resorts are good. Bansko is trying to bring more digital nomads because you can find very cheap flats, cheap internet, relaxed vibes, do hiking if you like it because the mountain and nature are super. In Melnik, which is not so far away try divine wine and see their "pyramids" as it is the smallest city in the country. Bulgaria is just so old and diverse and will depend on what you are looking for. Yes, we are after Iceland in spa and have so many places for spa tourism also for curing skin problems. We also have the Danube small islands for kayaking and can go on and on talking about it. The tap water is tasty and especially the one in the mountains or if you spot it with our "modern" roads. You must try the one in the monasteries. It is usually very cold, but very nice. The one in Sofia is very hot because it contains more sulphate minerals and smells like rotten eggs, but very healthy. Also, we have a very old Ottoman mosque, the 3rd largest synagogue in Europe, a catholic church and of course Orthodox Alexander Nevski because of the Russian liberation from the Ottomans. We were with the Nazis in the wars, but still saved the Jews. Wacky history. Summers can get really warm in summer (not as much as Greece) in Plovdiv for example but then you have so many parks to escape the heat because Bulgarians have a strong park culture. Many cities have at least 1 big park, where people gather and just chilll. We have many trees, mountains because of the rain and sunshine and nice landscapes if you get a car or take the (lousy) trains but will see lavander or sunflower landscapes. The rose is important to us. You can even buy rose shampoo, rose oil to hydrate your skin and used in many French perfumes. Of course, ugly Soviet buildings. We are between the East and the West and therefore will find very strong differences. Our language is South Slavic but with a more old Hellenic syntax but Russians will understand it 50% maybe. I mean, you can imagine.....in the Balkans history is very complex. Finally, yes we are very proud of our sour milk, not yoghurt as it is called in Bulgarian because okay Greek one has much better marketing but the difference in the taste is enormous. And yes, we use it and consume it quite a lot. If you have visited a BG supermarket or smaller stores it is almost impossible not to spot it. There is and will always be a huge kiselo mlyako section. The origin of yoghurt is very debatale.
@@pomorackotor what the hell? Bulgarians are not turks. So glad you liked our city, it is a beautiful one, so much charm and very chill atmosphere! There are many things to be improved tho such as pavement quality, road lines etc.still my fav city and I have travelled a lot abroad. Vitosha mountain is amazing as well, so beautiful❤
I love that more tourists are coming to Bulgaria. I'm from Bulgaria, but from one of the smaller cities, recently moved to Sofia to study. The thing is, you don't see how beautiful your country isbecause you live in it and you take all those beautiful things for granted, but talking with tourists and seeing their responce to our culture, hustory, traditions, nature and so much more, makes me as well realise, what a beautiful place I was born and rased in. Personally (and a lot more people too) would recmand to any tourists to go to our natural SPAs, they are mainly locarted around the mountains and countrysides, and they have hot mineral waters, which is actually one of the best ways to heal your body and relax. I hope every person that comes here in Bulgaria, has a good impresion and tries to see the countryside and the smaller towns, even tho they aren't made for tourists, you will probably have a harder time to get around with english and there won't be so many landmarks, but it's a lot cheaper than Sofia is and there are still so many cultural and natural places and things to look at ^^
Just one slight correction - the lifestyle is affordable only to foreigners. For comparison - the amount of money a doctor in the US gets per year is the same amount a bulgarian doctor gets in about 10 years. When most people here pay their rent, bills, groceries, vehicle maintenance/fuel, they have almost nothing left to ,,treat themselves,,. (especially in Sofia)
This is complete nonsense. Open event websites to book theatre plays, operas, ballets, concerts, exhibitions, science lectures, cinemas and just look at how many tickets have been bought... Most events are sold out completely, even those with high prices. If you walk around the centre, restaurants are full every day. People are treating themselves and purchasing power is skyrocketing in 2023, being almost 15% above inflation. You have no clue what you're talking about.
@@TzvetozarCherkezov These are not a recent development, it has been that way for ages. Whilst Bulgarians are, on general, getting more wealthy than before, especially thanks to the previous decade, I'd argue that the recent years since Covid actually lowered the purchasing power quite a lot. Prices for various commodities, goods and services have went up 2 to 4 times, whilst income is lagging way behind. In my own case, my PP has went down significantly in 2023 - and I've observed similar experiences with the people around me. Not as significantly as during 21 and 22, at least, that is for certain. I am aware that this is not the case for everyone, though - and perhaps things are better in Sofia than here in the countryside. Yet, inflation is heavily underreported in the official statistics, just like in every country, and they will continue to underreport it since it's a major Eurozone admission critera.
@@kortov7756 The purchasing power skyrocketed since early 2023 and is now far, FAR above pre-pandemic levels. For the last year and a half the wage increase is around 10-20%, depending on industry, while inflation has slowed down to 3%. Unemployment is barely 5% and businesses are actually flying in Uzbeks and Tajiks to work, because they can't find people. That pushes salaries up, obviously. Statistics don't agree with what you'd argue. Inflation is not underreported. You either have no clue how it's Mathematically calculated or simply are a conspiracy theorist who doesn't agree with simple Maths. The fact that you even think that it CAN be underreported shows us you don't understand the basics of inflation. If it IS underreported the market self-corrects based on those reports. It's supply and demand. Econ 101. Find somewhere else to peddle bullshit.

With every tourist lost forever in a twisting shady side street, Sofia's history grows a little deeper and the local donner kebap shops become a bit better stocked.
That mineral water right there is probably the best flavoroud water you can find, but you gotta cool it off a bit, or pour in a vessel and let it stay there for a bit first. Perfectly clean and drinkable water, that's why there're ppl there filling up the bottles 24/7.

Wow...I got goosebumps 😂 Fun stuff is I live in the city, well closer to the mountains, but it's super interesting, as others notes, how you guys perceive the city as visitors and how we, as residents do. Thanks for the great video and warm comments. I guess we need to be a bit more forgiving and a bit more loving to our city.
Guys, literally - all you say is true but the main two nations later becoming Bulgarians also derive from some significant origin ancestors - the Proto Bulgarians, deriving from the Khans , ancient hun tribes with vast culture for their time and the local population of this territory - the Slavic peoples (at least some of them, we lately found out about some Slavic origins even around Ireland), so yeah practically Rome dates from before the proto-Bulgarians came and still it's good to know that nation has saved it's origins and traditions, which derive from none of those great Nations you've mentioned in the beginning - they literally occupied the local population, so we're actually knowing them (expect the Romans) as enslavers, our nation don't actually derive from them(mostly) - of course we're a mix now - but some of us are kind of proud with our genes from our ancestors and it's also amazing that we as a nation have preserved ourselves after all these enslavements, keeping our Slavic and proto-Bulgarian roots, traditions, we also survived as Christian country after the enslavement of the Ottoman empire - so it is to be known, I understand that nowadays it isn't actually a common knowledge, so I just wanted to share. And you're right for the fact that we've been practically once again enslaved politically by the Soviet union and the Communistic party working under them and once again preserved ourselves as much as we could to be able lately to manage to raise a democratic country that could be seen as attractive from people from the most developed nations nowadays. Great vid, I wish you a great journey ahead! 💯
Yeah, this little area used to be very nice. I grew up in BG, now I go once in 10 years. A lot has gotten better, but some has been destroyed unfortunately. Just visited this summer.

I hope you have the chance to visit Plovdiv in the future. From an American perspective, Sofia is top tier in terms of "amenities" compared to the other major cities, but it also feels quite Western! Plovdiv has this strange way of giving you city but with a "Bulgarian" feel. ❤

really happy that u guys liked it here. :) Hope some more ppl like u come and take a good impression of us because we are a lot more than "popular opinions on bulgarians" . Thank you guys, i think you should consider taking a trip to Plovdiv and during the summer definetely somewhere at the coast of black sea!
Welcome back!😊
Thanks! 🙏🏽
Thank you for visiting our country, it had a truly great history and thank you for visiting us!
If I may suggest, visit Plovdiv, the oldest city in Europe.Plovdiv airport is nearby. All the best.
Definitely visiting it next time!
Perfect, deabia aștept filmări și păreri din România.

Awesome, thanks for supporting! 🤘🏽
Most of our food ingredients are imported. I don’t know why you are talking about our land. We mostly produce wheat since we entered eu.
It looks like central asian...bulgars are turks
@@pomorackotor what the hell? Bulgarians are not turks. We have prebulgarian tribes who come from asia (more like mongols than turks), we have slavic tribes who are more like eastern europe folk, we have tracian tribes who are also local to south bulgarian lands close to greeks. We have muslim ethnics much later in time. So to say bulgarians are like turks it is not true.

I hope every person that comes here in Bulgaria, has a good impresion and tries to see the countryside and the smaller towns, even tho they aren't made for tourists, you will probably have a harder time to get around with english and there won't be so many landmarks, but it's a lot cheaper than Sofia is and there are still so many cultural and natural places and things to look at ^^
🙂 so true! We can relate! I’d love to know where else in Bulgaria you recommend! We’d love to come back and see more than Sofia.
fascinating country with rich history and traditions, i'm going to visit Tsarevets and Trapezitsa one day. best wishes from Poland
Born & raised in Sofia and I love this video 🫶🥰
I live in Bulgaria! It's an amazing country! I am from Bulgaria too!
It looks like central asian country
@@pomorackotorthe culture is a perfect blend between European and middle eastern 😊

Страхотна държава с отвратително управление. Начинът на живот тук е ужасен.
Amazing video with a positive vibe about my hometown Sofia! Thank you!
А откъде взимат пари за скъпото гръцко море и да задръстват като рояк КППТ. само те си знаят.🤣🤣🤣👍🇧🇬

Thanks a lot, cheers!
Plovdiv is a must visit if you like Bulgaria
So we’ve heard, will check it out next time!
You showed Sofia in it’s best. Not like others, who only show the bad parts. Thank you
Come to Plovdiv, It`s the OLDEST CITY in Europe ;)
I liked the video, but honestly, this is perhaps the 5th video about Sofia, with the title "this is not what we expected" ! Why this title ? What did you expect ?
Honestly, we had to rush a thumbnail lol but also had different ideas for what we thought Bulgaria and Sofia was going to be like…but fair enough, our thumbnail lacks originality and we’re going to try and improve on that 😂 thanks for watching!

Glad that you liked my city, I saw it with the eyes of a tourist 😊
Like every other city in the world, there is so much more to see. Vitosha street is a big no-no, but the hidden gems are numerous.
The vodeo is very nice.If you have time visit the oldest city in EU Plovdiv-Bulgaria 😊
Hello from Bulgarian 🇧🇬
Great! - Thanks Guys - this is pretty sweet...
I’m visiting from London next week. I can’t wait.
Hope you enjoyed it!
Im very impressed with the bulgarian meatballs and salad. Great local food. Far far better than that muck from McDo. I wouldnt even give a stray dog on the street that but id give it a treat of a bit of mm y delicious Bulgarian meatball. Ive always loved street dogs and always had one attach itself to us in India, a beautiful kitten too like a little leopard.
Bulgaria has the most of mineral water 💧 in the world 🌍 most of 700 different tips of different mineral water 💧

Thanks a lot! 🤘🏽
What a beautiful city. Thanks for sharing.
Sofia was a blast! 🤘🏽We found it to have a very relaxed vibe, a good mix of international people, and a solid food scene! We loved it, cheers!
Lived in Sofia from 1987 til 1992 ... so many memories.
Thank You!!!
Yeah, this little area used to be very nice. I grew up in BG, now I go once in 10 years. A lot has gotten better, but some has been destroyed unfortunately. Just visited this summer.

Will do next time in Bulgaria!
I hope you have the chance to visit Plovdiv in the future. From an American perspective, Sofia is top tier in terms of "amenities" compared to the other major cities, but it also feels quite Western! Plovdiv has this strange way of giving you city but with a "Bulgarian" feel. ❤
