In Winter's House - Jane Draycott
In winter's house there's a room
that's pale and still as mist in a field
while outside in the street every gate's shut firm,
every face as cold as steel.
In winter's house there's a bed
that is spread with frost and feathers, that gleams
in the half-light like rain in a disused yard
or a pearl in a choked-up stream.
In winter's house there's a child
asleep in a dream of light that grows out
of the dark, a flame you can hold in your hand
like a flower or a torch on the street.
In winter's house there's a tale
that's told of a great chandelier in a garden,
of fire that catches and travels for miles,
of all gates and windows wide open.
In winter's house there's a flame
being dreamt by a child in the night,
in the small quiet house at the turn in the lane
where the darkness gives way to light.
What a beautiful poem!
I was just at their concert in Utah/nov 2019, many of these singers were there for that. Words cannot describe how incredible they are to hear live. Tenebrae are entirely on another musical plane. Thank you for making the long trip to America to grace us with your astonishing sound!
I cannot get enough of this, I just can't! I keep coming back to it. The space is just so stunning and perfect, as much as the singing always is. I literally feel my soul broaden inside my body, wanting to explode with joy from hearing this.
Same here! I'm drawn back to this piece again, and again, and again! 1st tenors and 2nd basses are amazing.
@@ianstafford2218 same here!
The choral classical recordings sometimes lack of bass power. This one is Amazing with the use of basso profundo quite extraordinary. Well done.
Thomas Dastillung It’s why Tenebrae alongside the Latvian Radio Choir and other Russian choirs have a lot of my respect with their powerful basso profundos/oktavists.
Exquisite!
Nice low end by Jimmy and Owain here!
Breathtaking! I got goosebumps right as I hit play and the first few seconds went by. Absolutely magnificent!
Me Too. !! That Basso !! wowzer. Great piece too
That was just beautiful! Thank you!❤
Your performances are the best
so good
thanks
Perfect at any level. such beautiful joined talent between Joanna and most amazing Tenebrae, that brings tears to one's eyes
Fabulous piece - fabulous singing! Wow!
Magnificent🎵
Как красиво!
Remarkable sound with such sonorous bass. Nigel Short's choirs have set the standard in this regard for many years now.
Outstanding!
Electric, Stunning, Remarkable, Incredible. I’ve spent most of the last 40 years singing with Cathedral Choirs. I used to yawn at the thought of “Men’s Voices” when the choristers voices were away. This recording totally knocks this on the head. I only wish I could have sung the music of Joanna Marsh when I was a Cathedral Lay Clerk.
Gees. Tenebrae should start making more albums based on just the men’s or women’s choirs.

Stunning - Thank you all!
this bass is PRICELESS
О_О ❤
Muito bom. Fantastico. Parabéns! :)
Who’s that basso profundo?
Aan Sihotang Not sure. But one of the basses, the one with the glasses on the left, is Owain Park.
Andrea Serba
Максим Козлов Do you have a source for that?
The 3 basses on the left are in order Jimmy Holliday, Owain Park and Will Gaunt...all regular members of this fabulous choir!
Peter Stafford If you watch closely, Gaunt is actually singing baritone for this song. But thanks for telling us about Jimmy Holiday.
The one's whith black hair and glasses looks like an vegetable of the the vegetables animation hahahah
What animation are you even talking about?
Whats the name of this type of singing? Oprah, soprano, overtone....?? It's beautiful.
Skylar Slays Chamber choir singing.
I had wondered where the 20thC composers were to equal Mozart and Beethoven. I have been answered in Joanna Marsh.
@michaelhughes9837 ^*20th century, never 20thC ^Joanna Marsh is a wonderful composer, however I think you need to go back to 3rd grade to re-learn comparatives.🙄🤷♂️🤦♂️🤡👎

Good blend and balance but "a torch on the stree" and "fire that catchez' and too much else similar. Oh bother! sing as you speak why not?! Smashing voices but articulation?
Not sure what the alternative to a voiced s would be for catches...
@@Yorksbass it was the vowel sound: chez to rhyme with fez that I disliked...!
Sounds moderately neutral to me, but then I detest the sloppy "-iz".
