- The mix in this beautiful performance always bothered me (Aurora's voice way too low compared to the rest), but I always forgot to tackle it ... until now ;)
Source used (by @piggystriker2 ) : • AURORA Live from BBC P...
What I did :
extracted the different "tracks" (bass, drums, vocals and so on)
increased volume of everything by around 22dB (the source was around 66dB).
increased the vocals volume by another 6db
decreased D. Attenborough's voice by 2 or 3dB (it was way too loud at this point)
merged everything back together
realized that this process messed up the applause somehow (they sounded really strange, kinda muffled but worse than that :D), while the rest sounds fine
so I removed the start and end of the video, which leaves just the song. A shame in a way, but not too bad in another way if you want to use it as a "regular" song ;)
lowered the whole volume by 6dB, as it ended up around 96 or 97dB, which is way too loud (90 or 91dB is usually fine for YT)
and I also added subtitles (yes, I'm aware of the other version, which actually has a louder volume than the source I used, but the subtitles are embedded in the video, i.e. you can't disable them, which I don't like ... but that was the version I was using in my playlist up to now).
NB : I can't increase Aurora's voice more, as it's already bordering clipping now ... I could lower the instrumentals more, but I don't think that's necessary, imho.
With all those changes, the picture quality might have been lowered a little bit, but sound-wise, I think it's better, let me know what you think :)

wow what a difference! listened to the original and your version in parallel for a bit and this is definitely the better one! Thanks for your work
I love her voice so much ❤
I love so much aurora voice ❤️✨
Yea. In original mix volumes was bad. Thx for your work and "repairing" what should be good from the start.
These enhanced vocals are even more breathtaking. You didn't have to do us like that man😭❤❤
okay, I can remove it, then :D
❤❤❤ 😭
Amazing job! Teach me how you did this! And thank you for the mention!
You're very welcome, and awesome job on the arrangement :)
As for explaining how I did this, I'm no expert to begin with, and YT is probably not the best place to go into details about the process. But to sum up, what you need :
- download the original video
- extract the audio from it into an mp3
- separate each audio track (vocals, drums, bass, etc.) from this mp3 (that's usually where you lose a bit of quality, and sometimes so much that you know it's no use going further as the end result won't be good enough).
- edit these separate tracks to reach your goal, while trying to not mess up anything (like too much gain on a track can generate clipping or saturation/distorsion)
- merge these separate tracks back together, verify and adjust if needed the final overall gain
- completely remove the audio track from the original video and replace it with your modified one
- if needed (that was the case here), edit the final video to remove unwanted (or messed up, in this case) parts
- upload the final result :D
That's at least 4 or 5 different pieces of software, I probably can't give you names here, or chances are YT will auto-delete my post :/
There are probably professional software able to do that in almost one go, but I don't know about them, and they're probably out of my budget ;)
Let met know if you need more information :)
@@fabrice7211I also wondered how you did it (when you posted it as I revisit it) and imagined something like you wrote. But I also imagine separating sound tracks is hardest part (and never 100% "correct"). BBC could (and should) do it much better with original material (I imagine they could have separated tracks from the start). But you did great work with this one and effect is very cool. Thx
@@Geralt26 Yes, separating the different soundtracks is never 100% correct if you look at each individual track (for example, if you want to keep only the vocals).
But, in theory, once you merge them all back together, there should be no loss ... (emphasis on "in theory" ;) )
nice vid
Thanks!! Perfection
On think que c'est parfait. Enfin... presque?🙃👍
Tu mélanges anglais et français, maintenant ? :D
@@Josian-ps7fb okay, I'm out ;P
