This is footage of Nickelodeon in Japan shutting down permanently on September 30, 2009, the same day when Nickelodeon changed its logo in the United States.

Dave102693 The channel shut down because of a heavy decline in viewership but, as of January 2018, it's back, after Viacom decided to buy back into the brand in Japan.

Not really. The FINAL bumper was a dinosaur holding a cup of water and a small tablet. They even announced it on the japanese version of Nick's website: nickjapan.com

A Japanese girl saying “Spongebob, say goodbye!” and Spongebob waving kind of makes it seem like this was the final thing shown on Nickelodeon Japan for a reason. It’s kind of sobering. Yeah, this was just the ending to the episodes in Japan, but that has to be deliberate.

As of 2023, the original one was launched in November 1998, the second one in January 2018 (which was exclusively available on IPTV). however, some of the programming will be moved to Nickelodeon Asia, which was launched on Japanese subfeed in February 1.

At the beginning the japanese sentence translates into "Was good" (yokatta). They probably informed the viewers of their signoff anyway.

No, it was real, they were using old school cable which also shut down at September 30th, which that means all of the channels that were using the old school cable got shut down immediately, which was several.
It came back in 2018, only to be shut down again in 2022

It [Nickelodeon Japan] came back in 2018, so it can now be considered a channel going dark for an extended period.
A channel break would be with WNGS Buffalo, New York. WNGS was on analog and couldn’t get up there transmitter, so they went dark and took a year off.
The Hulu service shut down on the 31st of January :/
And now it's gone again...
