    I have a little Yaesu FT1XD for ham technician stuff. But I just picked up a little KG-935G+, I like them both. I don't even talk much I just like playing with radios.

    Awesome! Looks like a good radio to buy when getting into HAM

      It is, especially if your already familiar with the KG-935 or other Wouxun products.

    What antenna is that?

    Here's my unsolicited two cents. I bought the UV8H because it is water resistant, the battery size is also awesome. It has some serious frustrating features though. Chirp programming has been in-the-works for over a year. Programming on the HT is a pain, mainly naming channels. The programming issue is resolved on the KG-UV9P, so I know Wouxun has the ability to have a decent UI. If they made a water resistant UV9 series HT it would be perfect.

    Hi Matt, I just watched your video and noticed the wide, flat meadows in the background and the awesome mountain range. Are they any repeaters up there? It must be a GMRS/HAM users dream to have such perfect geographic features where you are at. I also have a KG-UV8H that is unlocked and I do on occasion use it to listen in on GMRS channels. I have a 935G for transmitting. Thanks for your great videos, David, Seattle, KI7SIZ, WRAH962

      Hey David, those are actually the Bitterroot Mountains and those particular peaks are all wilderness area, so there aren't any repeaters up there. It would be pretty impressive if there were. I think the next time I get back up that way, I'll have to bring a dual band and see what kinda of distance I can make some contacts from the tops of them. One of the more prominent peaks in that background is St. Mary's and there's a very cool old USFS lookup out there.

    Today is a glorious day. I just bought the KG-UV8H and today it does come with the programming cable and and the screen protector. The angels have blessed me today.
    Now tell me how you unlocked it.

    Just found your channel and enjoy the content. I just got both of these radios and I’m enjoying them. Any idea when they’ll be chirp compatible? Or any programming workaround’s to use on a Mac?

    Do all the KG-UV8H radios come unlocked from the factory? I realize you’re not supposed to transmit on GMRS with these radios but is it possible without mods?

    The WX mode causes false positives during memory channels scan. So I have turned off the WX & alert mode.

    As you can see, there is almost nobody hanging out on analog FM ham repeaters anymore. It's exactly like that in Ohio too. Their glory days are long gone. GMRS continues to pick up in popularity.

      That’s only a regional thing. Come down here and there is constant chatter on our FM ham linked system and absolutely no one on GMRS.

    • @halledwardb
      @halledwardb ปีที่แล้ว

      We have both, and use both. Our 2m repeater is so little monitored that in a real emergency, I do not think I would trust it. I also am one of the guys that keeps the thing running and works on it.

    I have the gmrs version, I would like to grab the ham version at some point but maybe I’ll wait for a possible gen2. I currently use the kg-uv9d+ and I’m enjoying that. The screen is even worse in the daylight on 9d+ though 🤣

    I like the review of this radio. I wonder how this radio compares to radios like the xts2500s and xts5000s.

    • @MattKester

      I believe those particular Motorola's are digital radios. This is purely analog, so it's gonna be an apples to apple pie comparison.

    Matt. Is this radio now available with USBC charging and a Channel Wizard, as in the KG935 G Plus? If so, do you know the new model number? Thanks!

    • @MattKester
      @MattKester  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t believe there is a plus model available. However, the USB-C charging on the 935 Plus is only inside of the battery, so you could order one of the usb-c batteries available on Buy Two Ways Radios website. Just click my affiliate link the. Search for kg-UV8H USB battery. As far as the wizard, I’m not sure if they’ll ever do that and because it might not make enough sense for HAM radio for them to expend the resources on, as offsets aren’t standard like they are in GMRS and they probably also imagine that if you’ve acquired the knowledge to pass a technician exam, programming the radio isn’t going to be as confusing since you ostensibly understand offsets.

    I think the point that he inadvertently made is we are now at the point that we have more ham repeaters than we have repeater users. sad but often times true.

    You do not need a second dual band radio to use cross band repeat.

  • @GunzOrDie

    The real question is, is there a way to make this able to transmit on GMRS. Legality’s aside for emergency purposes only.
