The op is a big scooby doo reference and that's just how i want it to be
But no one took off a mask! It's not truly Scooby Doo until someone gets unmasked.
They will unmask themselves.
That's what season 3 will lead to.
@@Rognik now I wish the Official Doujinshi (which was originally supposed to be "Kaguya but with fanservice" but became a collection of "What Ifs" and "Elseworlds") did a Scooby doo parody. Shirogane can be fred, kaguya daphne, Ishigami can be Shaggy, Iino can be Velma, and Fujiwara's dog can be the Scooby stand in (Fujiawara being the one disguised as the monster of said chapter)
Ian R. Nava Huber thats fucking perfect, I love that idea
That's so true. I feel the same with the whole chika with the gang with a magnifying glass!
Some stuff about Love Dramatic you didn't mention:
1) Ishigami is trapped in his card, but that specific card is the Ace, a card worth either 1 or 11. Considering he's the school pariah but also an invaluable member of the student council, his worth being either extremely high or extremely low is extremely fitting.
2) In the psychedelic running section, everyone's run animation is amazingly in character. Chika's run is a typical moe schoolgirl run with hands at her chest, Ishigami is running in terror while looking back, and both Kaguya and Shriogane have excellent running form, though Shirogane is definitely putting more deliberate effort into his.
Also, putting the cultural festival into a movie would be a huge disservice. We need season 3. The timing of the fireworks arc, the sports day arc and the festival arc are fairly consistent, to the point people were speculating what the arc around 180 would end up being. Plus, if the series is going to end, it's most likely going to be around chapter 137, because that's the best place to end without doing the whole thing.
I don't think that the culture festival is a good place to end a movie or a season, it's what's after that that deserves to be an ending
Ahhh man, I know you're right about 137 logically being the best place to end the show, but I'm gonna be so sad if we don't end up seeing the Ice arc adapted. It's so important to Kaguya and Miyuki's character development, and its conclusion hits muuuuuuch deeper than the end of the Culture Festival arc, as great as it is.
Personally, if the anime HAS to end, I'd like it to end at chapter 160.
@@LRAStartFox i appreciate you guys not spoiling anything
personally i think the culture festival arc would be a perfect movie with the thing being the climax of the movie would be great honestly. i dunno why but i personally think it fits a movie really well, far better than the train arc from demon slayer that is getting a movie adaption
@@nad_nerbthis, this is exactly what I feel like they should do. It's also a much more satisfying ending point, with a natural transition from the end of the culture arc right into it

The naginata is the odd one out of that interpretation though, as it would be pretty useless for covert use.
It would fit if it's there to symbolize Kaguya's traditional yamato-nadeshiko-style femininity as one of her weapons, as naginata training was the sort of thing that was expected of the daughters of samurai families back in the day.
The mention of her naginata training could also be there to signify how aristocratic she is.
Huh. That makes a lot of sense mostly actually.

Kaguyas weapons were each more “subtle” with traditional roots where Shirogane was more brute force and commercialized symbolizing the nature of their tactics and backgrounds
Yeah, I thought that one was pretty obvious. I was surprised he didn't say that.
Same
Also Kaguya’s generally seem more archaic in that first shot, which symbolizes how she is out of touch with modern society
Also kaguyas weapons are more traditionaly japanese hinting at her background while shirogane has more western weapons foreshadowing future events
@Phu Phan Compared to a Glock, a derrringer is very subtle and old school. It was often considered a lady's personal defense type of weapon, and it is a much older design.
Also for love dramatic Shirogane uses a Kama, a traditional weapon used by poor farmers which signifies the money difference between him and kauya

The weapons actually symbolize how Kaguya uses more subtle and discrete methods to her plans, mostly by having all her weapons (except maybe the bow) to require less physical effort to use and that can be hidden under her sleeve or can go easily unnoticed, meanwhile Shirogane has a much more violent arsenal, kinda implying his approach to things is far more aggressive and less subtle.

4:25 It wasn't just a cute repeat motion + foreshadowing. It's shorthand for the passage of time. The way they keep looking at each other with a neutral expression and then blushing at the end shows how they didn't have feelings for each other initially but then developed a crush.
But you didn’t answer the question we needed answering: *Where did the other half of the heart omelette go?!!*
caught off screen before the catch we see in the op, else we would see Chika heartbroken, or maybe being held back by Miko and Ishigsami as she desperately tries to reach it on the floor
@@npc6817 I was gonna say she probably ate them both midair, but this a better answer.
Seriously? You looked at the weapons each one has in Love Dramatic and couldn't figure out any symbolism? If you look at them, Kaguya uses either silent ranged weapons like a bow or ninja-like melee weapons like a knife or a Kusari-gama, while Miyuki uses big melee weapons like swords and noisy ranged weapons like a rocket launcher and an assault rifle. Later on, while Miyuki wields a generic 9mm pistol, Kaguya uses a concealable small gun.
That is to say, Miyuki is ready for a battle, while Kaguya prepares for an assassination, which completely matches their respective scheming styles in the show: Kaguya is subtle and prepares a lot, while Miyuki is good at improvising when caught off guard.
Also, Prez wants to one-up Kaguya at everything. Hence the rocket launcher versus her bow.
@@paulstillman4949 also only one time is mentioned kaguya doing the bow... Ishigami makes a mock of himself talking about boobs in Archer armor and Kaguya wanted to invite Shirogane to her club. (chapter was adapted and memed a long time ago)
@@paulstillman4949 Shirogane bringing a rocket launcher to a bow fight hahaha
Also, the only time Shirogane uses a small weapon is when he uses a sickle, which was historically used a weapon in Japan due to being easily accessable for people of the lower classes. When he holds that sickle, Kaguya is holding claws, which requires more metal and more precise craftmanship to make, thus making it a more expensive weapon compared to the one Shirogane is holding.
plus their economic backgrounds - shirogane uses more standard issue, mass produced, generally cheaper weapons

Ishigami is also the Ace because both Kaguya and Shirogane use him as their "if all else fails" card to get things on their side, usually to deal with Chika, hence why he shows up after her, as if he was the counter card against her. After all, he's almost always the person who can make Chika actually leave the situation, and unlike her is constantly hoping to help the two of them.
I like Love Dramatic Daddy Daddy Do is definitely on another level for me! Also I'd like to point out that the shots of the two entering the student council room in Love Dramatic weren't just to save on budget. IMO they were supposed to represent that this relationship developed over time because they look up several times and the frames rewind, meaning to me that it was almost a daily occurrence and then on the last one they blush at the end demonstrating they finally understand their own feelings about the other person.
Or it could also represent the layers of deception they build all the way up but then deep down they really are embarrassed to see the other walk in
What Im shocked about is why has no one mentioned that at almost everytime Kaguya and Miyuki have a drop of nervous/struggle-driven sweat in their faces. When I rewatched season 1 I realized it`s an awesome way of telling you how they feel behind their confident, unreachable looking masks and social roles

Not sure if someone has posted this before me, but the character arrangement at 3:43 actually makes a lot more sense than MB realizes.
Chika is at the center due to her strong connections to Kaguya and Miyuki, and being a very prominent character during the early story.
Ishigami and Hayasaka are right behind Fujiwara, him at the left and her at the right. Ishigami, while he has grown closer to Kaguya, started off as Shirogane's best friend and terrified of Shinomiya, while Hayasaka was linked only to Kaguya as her confidant.
Behind Ishigami on the left are the characters that are *linked to Shirogane*. Kei appears right behind despite her lack of screentime because she's Miyuki's sister, however distant.
Kashiwagi and her boyfriend are next because it was Shirogane's advice that brought them together.
As for the Mass Media club on Kaguya's side? Besides their 4koma, i think they're there because they're her fangirls. Otherwise I concede MB this point.
Finally, Maki is at the very last position on Shinomiya's side, and not behind Kashiwagi and boyfriend, because... manga spoilers.
Hope this makes sense!
I felt that Chika cheerfully dancing in Love Dramatic while the background behind her turns to grenades perfectly demonstrates her sheer obliviousness to the ‘war’ that’s going on around her
*"Curse You Masayuki Suzuki And Your Impossibly Catchy Crooning."*
The struggle is real! 😙🎶🎵😂
I love how when chika eats the egg roll her love detective hat is removed. Her personality to give love advice and be especially intelligent in terms of relationships because of her straightforwardness is instantly eliminated as if we know chika she’s beyond oblivious to kaguya and miyuki’s love lol
Which is highly ironic since virtually EVERYONE ELSE sees it. However, not one of them dares to mention it as highlighted by Kashiwagi's near death by cringe.
But in the manga she immediately found out that Miko likes Ishigami lol

The 2nd OP is really amazing. I also like how you've incorporated crediting the animators for the specific cuts.
How I see the Symbolism of 2:20 is that the weapons metaphorically represent their "combat" styles in S1 especially. Kaguya has several subtle weapons typically associated with ninja the (Kunai, Blow Gun, Knife) which reference her stealthy unseen plans in her strategies of confession while the polearm she wields is specifically a Naginata or "Lady Spear" which represents skill and elegance while the grenade metaphorical of her last ditch "Techniques" and backup plans that are typically the most successful (until a certain pink haired person messes it up).
With Miyuki the general weapons are more standard and brutish (Rifle, Axe, and Nunchucks) while he still has a underlying elegance and skill to his plans represented with the (Katakana and Rapier)
Thats my personal interpenetration at least
I actually think the looping shots of Shorogane and Kaguya watching each other enter the room show how the way they view each other changed over time from barely noticing each other day to day, with them just glancing over to see who just entered the room, to having fallen in love in the last part where their reactions change and they become flustered by seeing the other

i think the weapons also symbolize how Kaguya was using Japanese weapons showing her rich lineage while Shirogane's more European weapons symbolize how he is an outsider compared to the rich students and when the OP continues the weapons get exchanged a bit symbolizing how the two are influencing one another. Chika as a grenade means how unlike most weapons are aimed at the enemy a grenade can do collateral damage and harm the user as well.Chika being the joker can change the game completely while Ishigami is Shirogane's or Kaguya's usual ace when things get dicey for either of them.
5:00 I feel like you underestimate the effectiveness of that shot. To me, those frames display the dichotomy of how they see each other and how they want to be seen, versus how they actually feel. When they each walk into the club room and see each other, they only see the cool, collected poise of people in power - people who are hard to approach, and thus the multiple emphasis on the initial frames where they exchange cool glances. Then, finally, as they look away, their true emotions, the ones only the audience sees, come through.
This is just me believing this, but I like to believe Kaguya's weaponry represents her being sneaky just like her attempts towards making Shirogane confess to her, while Shirogane is more head first like his attempts and reactions to Kaguya's plans.
Basement: kaguy-. Me: say no more

Yes, you have realized how amazing the kaguya manga is. I literally read it in one day, have reread it several times and it's one of the few things I keep up with so consistently. There's just so much _there,_ and despite being inherently ridiculous, it feels real.
The manga is so meta right now with its current arc.
This comment is something I can agree with
i re read it whenever i read the mass media club spinoff (i didn't know there was a cut manga chapter about a cockroach entering the student council room).
i am planning to read the official doujinshi.
Same, I feel that the anime only people are seriously missing out on a lot
@@superprogamer_0518 they are because they would have to wait 2+ years to get to where the manga is right now, and that's assuming the anime even gets that many seasons.
Also, Ishigami as an Ace of Spades is perfect. As an Ace, he is both the highest and lowest card in many games - defeated by whoever is on bottom, but often times taking out whoever is on top. He isnt exactly a wildcard, but his role is variable and extreme. This also makes him a trump card. He's the only one who trumps Fujiwara's Joker. Also, as a spade he is only used later in games like Spades - just as he shows up late in the show. As well, in Spades, if used early the ace of spades can be a total waste, but is useful at the end - in other words a card you want to hold onto and not let go. Kinda like the treasurer who doesn't participate in the game much but you must keep around for his ultimate utility, and who is constantly in threat of disappearing even though you may desperately need him later.
*"Chika Is Adorable, But F*cking Watch Out Because She's Also A Human Hand Grenade."*

I guess it's just how my brain works, but details and symbolism just go over my head a lot or I only briefly catch on and forget later. I guess that's why I enjoy watching analytical content like this since it just lets me appreciate all the effort that goes into things I love and make the connections as the information is being presented. Good stuff 👍
"His pathetic commoner lunch"

that's something Shirogane himself would say
pathetic commoners. theyre so pore they need to eat hot dogs and squids, oh, how bad is it to be a pathetic commoner.
I think that the segment where Kaguya and Shirogane look up from the newspaper repeatedly is a nice way of representing how teenagers overthink the meeting their crush repeating the same scenario in their mind multiple times.

Kei it's closer to the main characters in a family level while also being close to Chika
Maki it's not only behind the other girls, but it's also in the completly opposite side that the boy she has a crush and it's also hiding
also, she being with the mass media club shows how in the spinoff she is a recurrent character and close friends to those (Hayasaka being in their side too. As she pops up a lot in the spinoff)
Maki is also looking shyly towards the Boy she likes

I mean, damn. That's the fanservice that stick with me.
And any scene with Toyomi. But yeah, the lunchboxes too.
God this series has consumed my life.
Mine too. One of the best romcoms in recent times.
2:55 Actually, I think there might be some light symbolism in the specific weapons. For one thing, their choices of weapons could be seen as reflecting traditional gender roles.
Miyuki's weapons are stereotypically masculine. Swords are often said to be phallic symbols, while the axe and AK-47 reflect the traditionally male-dominated professions of lumberjack and soldier. Swords were also traditionally given to commanding officers, reflecting Miyuki's role of President.
Kaguya's weapons are mostly smaller and might be stereotyped as "easier for women to wield". Since smaller weapons are also easier to conceal, they're well-suited for the kind of meticulously-planned assassination that might appeal to Kaguya. The naginata is something of an outlier, but has its own significance. The naginata is the iconic weapon of the _onna-musha_, upper-class female warriors who defended the household, reflecting Kaguya's social status and the importance of living up to the Shinomiya name.
Can’t wait for the sport festival arc
It is always the best
The wot?
@@rckinetic9065 You'll see... it's great.
Me too
Ishigami is best boi. He will always be best boi.
So in terms of the weapon analysis in the opening I think you did an injustice there. Let’s look at Kaguya first we have some shuriken, naginata, a grenade, blow dart, and knife. Now for Shiro we see a saber, axe, katana, assault rifle, and nunchucks.
The disservice is in how these weapons are perceived and how they are used reflect the “traps” they lay for one another. Kaguya as a character plans days, weeks, months, and years in advance. Like an assassin she sets up for everything to be in her favor and goes for a “one shot one kill” method and like a lot of assassins if they fail then they are usually screwed and Kaguyas plans do that quite often where she sets up a detailed plan, Shiro counters it, and then she is flustered and has to take extreme measures to recover or she loses outright. Which leads to Shiro, his weapons are that of up close and in an almost in your face direct manner, which is how he is. He rarely sets up plans to catch Kaguya, instead he is always countering her attempts or when he goes on the attack it’s very direct with little to no planning.
So I think the weapons are an important feature to discuss as to how deep things go here when they decided what weapons each of them have.
Kudos to you for giving a shoutout to the animators, they need more love and appreciation for the amazing work they do!
The craziest part of Kaguya-Sama is that season 1 was already fantastic, and then everything about season 2 was just ten times better than that.

Man, I wish someone would compare the two openi-- *AREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?!?!?!?!?!?!?*
Results: K T loses (in the best possible way)
Small addition: Kaguyas weapons in the first OP are all very traditional Japanese with the kunai, naginata and so on, whereas Shirogane has more western weapons like the rapier. This is not only suitable for their characters being very traditional Japanese and western oriented, but also suits there style of love-combat. Kaguya uses the methods taught by here household and here families resoures, exactly as expected of her. Shirogane on the other hand has to improvise and generally use his weapons that are not of the high class traditional Japanese elite, due to his lack of money and status. Thus the shot conveys the characters background and presents the options they have to fight.
"Osaragi with a *cough* keen interest in the relationships of her fellow classmates."
Yeah, I caught that Geoff.
But Karen is the shiptrash of the school! (As she displayed in 189)
@@Othomqcpwr "the president is all over that dish already"
@@Othomqcpwr the spinoff puts that to shame. she even said she would like to be in shirogane's (imaginary) harem as long as kaguya remained as the top waifu
@@braindeadidiot2100 i died at that point tbh
i'd never even considered that as a ship and i almost soaked my laptop in juice when i read it
I was able to appreciate this because, in my recent binging of the three seasons, I never just zipped past the opening songs because they’re just so well done by all involved. Also it’s clear that, despite your pronunciations you know more than a bit of nihongo, which is presumably how-I suppose-you managed to identify the individual animators’ work. Thanks for your diligence, and once more stylish presentation.
Also “cringe to death” is a great concept l
I like daddy daddy do more since it feels like a whole episode in of itself
I like love dramatic more, but I totally get you as the opening felt like a chapter by itself (loved that btw, as it even ends with a pretty much Shirogane loses)
For OP1 when the supporting cast is shown, I think Maki was behind the media club and opposite Tsubasa and Kashiwagi because she’s always looking at the two of them together from a distance
If the some of the anime this season wasn't delayed, this season would have genuine compitition for best anime this season. But we all know this anime just stomps all anime this season say for Appare Ranman, Arte & my next life as a Villainess.
Yesterday wo Utatte has entered the chat
Nami yo Kiitekure has entered the chat
MB: I’ll try to use vague spoilers
Also MB: Here’s some spoilers manga chapter pages
Basically MB: "WHITE DOVES CULTURE FESTIVAL *audible wink"*
*"Kaguya Does Use A Blow Dart At One Point In The Manga During The Game Where You Can Pump It As Many Times As You Want, But You Have To Pump It At Least Once And Whoever Makes It First Loses."*
That doesn't sound wrong at all lol! 😂😂😂
that's the point lmao. they even makes a joke about it in-universe
It was a lewd skit.
Cyndrift So this anime is a little on the dirty side, but not too dirty... I heard good things about this anime and you know... I was thinking of watching it one day! 😄😁👍
That's totally the joke, Chika introduces it as such, getting the boys all worked up, then she explains it and they're all "oh, it's like _that_ ..."
I have been waiting for a “What’s in an OP” for Kaguya-Sama since the first season! So happy you made it!!
I love every single character of this anime.
They are all super great.
"Human handgrenade" is the best description of Chika I've ever heard.
A cute, airheaded handgrenade.
You just can't beat that 🎶"oooo love me mister, ooo mister"🎶
I'm gonna say that Love Dramatic wins for me, just cause I haven't managed to get the song itself out of my head since I first heard those opening chords
I just wanted you to know that I feel personally as blessed by this video as I was with Kaguya's slow transformation from the Ice Queen into Melted Mush With a Crush.
Just wait for the culture festival you love melted mush with a crush? Wait til you see what she turns into later on
That motion graphic background you used throughout the video is really well made.
Masayuki Suzuki is one of the best singers not just in Japan but in all of time. That man is such a chad
thanks for going back for a what's in an OP that got me hooked to your channel
I’ll save you time, they’re both amazing.
Paused at 4:19. The arrangementof the characters seem perfect to me. Ishigami and Hayasaka are the two most prominent characters, and are near the front. Kei and the couple go to the Student Council office at some point, being on Ishigami's side of Chika, while those who have not gone to them are on Hayasaka's side. This is even more fitting since Hayasaka is banned from interacting with the council by Kaguya, while Ishigami sees the council as his only friend circle. Yet, whereas Kei have an interest in all members of the council to some degree (she even notes that Ishigami was nice to her, good for him), whereas the couple would rather be off together. Kaguya's niece is furthest away from the couple as she always is, while the two club members... Are there because they, much like the niece and Hayasaka, are people meant for the background. Hayasaka helps Kaguya from hiding. The club members admire Kaguya from afar. Likewise, even the niece is someone from Kaguya's family. All in all, the three represent her home life, her school life, and her family politics which keeps itself distant from her home life.
"Don't worry I'm not gonna spoil anything" 5 seconds later...*spoils everything*
Slight correction. They aren't glancing at each other weapon in hand. They are searching for each other.
Imagine an old spy film, james bond or similar, where where a protagonist enters a room expecting to find the bad guy but he isn't there, so the protag advances cautiously scanned left and right. Then the antagonist emerges quietly behind him, weapon in hand.
"Kashiwagi and her boyfriend" yup no one knows that guy's name until later on, not even Shirogane and his student council members and no Kaguya shouldn't throw away her hair ribbon because manga readers knew what happened when she didnt tied up her hair
Love Detective Chika and crew was a full on shoutout to Scooby Doo’s classic 1969 OP of Mystery Inc doing the walk...
4:58 so what? He’s going to travel to the US or something?
Edit: Just read the manga and I can say that I’m a certified genius.
Laughs in manga
The problem with leading questions is that any and all replies from people who know is a spoiler.
He has PLANS...
[No spoilers, I've only watched the anime]
I recall he gave a convoluted plan as advice to Kashiwagi's boyfriend when he asked Shirogane how he could hold Kashiwagi's hand... Maybe Shirogane tries to do something similar in the future with Kaguya? (Plan some sort of trip to set up a mood on which one of them can confess to each other?)
@@violetevergarden9496 ehem ehem papa shirogane can't pay for that ehem ehem
5:16 this has the same energy as always has been.
"Wait you're in love we me?"
"always have been"
