Hear me out, the fish in the beginning is an Emperor Angelfish. This fish usually represents divine intervention and a call to a persons own power. As a person this is someone who’s greatest power is their love/kindness for others. In a sense this fish represents Yuji as a strong individual who’s greatest power is an overwhelming kindness for others. As a spirit I think the fish represents his grandfather and the curse/blessing with which he bestowed on Yuji in his final moments. The fish watching and guiding Yuji on his journey as a Jujutsu Sorcerer but also representing the simple metaphor of a small fish in a big pond. Everything is out of his control but in a sense Yuji is still being watched over and guided through all this chaos and honestly it made me cry looking into the symbolic meaning behind the fish. Also the lights create the silhouette of the same fish too, which i think is also neat to notice.
Hey, I was actually coming to identify the fish as well. In addition though, in the opening it's a juvenile emperor angelfish, as they mature that pattern fades and they're replaced with a totally different pattern of blue and yellow stripes. I figured that probably symbolizes Yuuji just coming into his power and knowledge of jujutsu. I'll be interested to see if they have the adult fish in later openings.

He doesn’t notice the mind games or whatever other plans between Gojo and sukuna, he is focused on the fished. Maybe this is hinting that Yuji is still too kind, he has got to let go of the fish to look up or he’s gonna get eaten cause Sukuna ain’t resting.

I feel like the main reason why he was alone in the train car is to also signify that he is all alone in this. Sure people can say "I'm here for you, or im there if you need me." But in the reality of it, yuji is the only person in the world who has to, and can, do this. So he will always be alone, just having sakuna quietly watching him whether he notices it or not. Only talking to him just so that he can mock and laugh at him misfortune...
Well in the most recent episode they literally weaponized explaining your power before you use it, so it would be pretty on brand for the series to give tropes actual in-canon power

Since no has mentioned it, the last opening of the series, after showing Yuuji in his dreamspace with his friends and allies, and after the cut to Sukuna's domain, when yuuji finally wakes up, he wakes up in tears. He was dreaming about an ideal life where his friend Junpei would've joined them, but ultimately he just dies before he even gets the chance to enroll. Thats why he glares at Sukuna in hatred, for refusing to help him, as well as stealing himself to fight all the greater evils that are to come
Another fun fact: the lines turn into what looks like a real heart with veins connecting to it symbolizing that every thing that happens will eventually lead there.
I never noticed that in the shot that shows his fight against the Special Grade you never see his left hand, it cuts off at the wrist and you can't see anything that tells you it's missing yet. I hope you see this M.B., because I feel like this is a quality detail.
My favorite thing about Todo is that out of all the characters in the show, Todo is the one CANONICALLY CONFIRMED LGBTQ+ ally. The Most dudebro hyper-masculine cishet character in the series, and almost Ever, is so far the only character who has actually said "if you like men that's fine too" when asking a guy for his type of woman. Well it basically represents her own curse. Since she's born with almost no Juryoky, the head of the Zenin clan sees her as useless but since she defies him he constantly makes her lofe harder by forbidding her promotions and hiding jobs for her, so is like he's always lingering around, cursing her existance, that's why he appears as a curse when she puts her glasses

As a fan of Eve myself, I'm so happy that he's starting to get more recognition in the community. For the past 3 years, Eve's music has slowly made a place into my heart, and I wouldn't change anything about it. Kaikai Kitan is a great song, and if you really like it, I HIGHLY recommend going to Eve's channel and listening to his songs. They're beautiful, creative, mystery inducing, emotional, etc. You get it. He also has a Spotify in case you want to listen to any of his albums. My favorite album is his most recent one, Smile.

The picnic could be referring to grandpa Itodri's actual last wish. "Don't end up like me" (that is to say, dying all alone), it's shown right after we see his death, and could be viewed as us viewing the completion of that last desire. The ideal picnic. (And a sneaky way of telling us who Yuji can trust.)

One of the concepts when analyzing any piece of art is "Death of the artist". It basically says that whatever you interpret it as is a correct interpretation and does not require validation from the artist.
Did you notice that Jogo, Hanami and the squid curses are freaking manifestation of human fear of earth, forest and ocean? They're like the strongest, terrifying, epic forces of nature and yet Gojo played with one of them. WTH And Mahito is human hatred manifested. Also, those 2 were actually mutated humans. Not curses at all. If you notice, curses mostly have purple blood, yet those two had red. Also, Nanami may be my favorite character. I love him. He's funny, awesome and a nice guy!
One additional detail I absolutely adore is the way the song itself is integrated into the opening, especially in the first half. In the beginning riffs, we see Yuuji, who shows apathy to the world outside his cart and the city itself, equally unaware of the darkness sprawling right beneath the surface. Then, we're shown the first-year students as the singer kicks in, but his voice is quiet and only a few instruments play alongside it. With a guitar riff, we switch to the second years and as the voice becomes clearer, more instruments can be heard. But when Gojou is shown, the singer goes into a higher pitch and drums kick in. Afterwards, when Sukuna appears, all instruments but the drums go silent and the singers voice takes central stage.
Yuuji being alone in the train at the beginning probably symbolizes something of a destination and burden Yuuji alone endures and drowning in the black and white duality of him and Sukuna. The glowing train system makes me think of blood veins for some reason too.
2:25 actually just realized this view of tokyo from above is from chapter 137 in the manga. spoiler! 9:09 is also a reference to the current arc in the manga! that fish is an emperor angelfish and it's an abortive migratory fish. this refers to the 'abortive migration' (the name of the culling game) which is a situation where animals that don't migrate get carried away to environments they don't belong in. it's also pretty common for them to die in those environments. jjk is so cool for making things in the ops relevant to manga content that hadn't even been released by that point.
He falls back asleep, as he reaches his destiny. Something to consider. Sleep is a state of unconsciousness, or at least semi-consciousness. Suggesting, maybe that he is "asleep" and Sukuna is in control, as he reaches that destiny.
it's also important to note that during the Gojo segment on top of Tokyo Tower, Eve sings a perfect octave interval, which is the highest interval in a musical scale, tying in the music to what is happening visually.
i just have to say that i LOVE the jujutsu techniques in this show. they’re for the most part very easy to understand but still so engaging and unique! nobara’s strawdoll & hammer techniques are very interesting to watch because they can be used in such cool ways, and i absolutely adore the fact that megumi has to actually make shadow animals with his hands to summon the shikigami. it’s really neat!
The curse in Maki's bit looks like the head of the Zenin family and her father Naobito Zenin, the person who keeps her down for not having curse energy.
I will stan eve and his god tier music videos until the day i die. His kaikai kitan video (not the jjk opening sequence, the full length video) is one of my favorites and its so unique within his music sphere, but some of his others absolutely bring me to tears every damn time (sister and promise holy shit) i think As You Like It and Dramaturgy are some of my other favorites but also i cant really decide because i love all of them. 7:57 I remember watching this shot and specifically remembering the scene from "Hereditary" where Peter (the protagonist) looks at his reflection in a cupboard and sees himself staring back but having a smuggy face while he was freaking out in class. This shot kinda has the similar vibes to me. Sukuna has the ability to show himself mimicking Yuji due to their deal and that the teen is the only way he can come back to life fully, but also mocking him by grinning to show how he knows he will end in control over Yuji because their power difference and how far is Sukuna able to be cruel. It's like a predator that knows he already has won against its prey.

I'd love to see someone do a video about how well written gojo is as an OP character. I love how very early in the series its made pretty clear that not only is he the strongest but everybody knows it including all the bad guys in the show. Its not always easy writing someone OP and have them be relevant. Look at saitama, he gets less and less screen time as the anime and manga go on because him being around any bad guys has basically no steaks and ruins the plot.

2:03 I think him being alone in the car is meant to represent Yuji's differences from everyone around him due to how he gained his cursed energy. Almost everyone else around him gained it via familial ties or having it innately but Yuji's different, since he gained it via eating one of Sukuna's fingers and being the only person capable of controlling Sukuna's powers to some regard. He's unique and that causes him to feel alone, even if he doesn't realise it, sort of like how he's half asleep during the beginning and ending of the opening. He's different from all the other Sorcerers for the reason listed above, and he's different from the other Cursed Spirits since he is human and is harbouring one of their own inside of him.
gosh thank you much for this video, i loved it! i loved the details and the representation of the characters in each frame, cause when i started it like a month ago i knew nothing about jujutsu, i just wanted to see it and now i love it! i got kinda obsessed abt this opening but i hadn't who to talk about it, i just replayed thousand times the mv and found eve which now i adore (and of course the dream scene (ep 12) and i swear i cried so hard) and i love megumi, megumi best boi thank you so much!
Came back to watch this a third time, because it's just that good and insightful. It's amazing how an entire story can be told in less than 2 minutes- and all it takes is a critical mind and attention to detail to catch it all without even being given all the clues just yet.
Have you watched "Heaven official's blessing" yet? It's on funimation and i highly, highly recommend it. Its a Chinese anime with absolutely stunning animation and a good story so far and omg the opening song is one of the best of the year. Since no has mentioned it, the last opening of the series, after showing Yuuji in his dreamspace with his friends and allies, and after the cut to Sukuna's domain, when yuuji finally wakes up, he wakes up in tears. He was dreaming about an ideal life where his friend Junpei would've joined them, but ultimately he just dies before he even gets the chance to enroll. Thats why he glares at Sukuna in hatred, for refusing to help him, as well as stealing himself to fight all the greater evils that are to come

My favorite thing about Todo is that out of all the characters in the show, Todo is the one CANONICALLY CONFIRMED LGBTQ+ ally. The Most dudebro hyper-masculine cishet character in the series, and almost Ever, is so far the only character who has actually said "if you like men that's fine too" when asking a guy for his type of woman. And I just think that's rlly funny.

Well it basically represents her own curse. Since she's born with almost no Juryoky, the head of the Zenin clan sees her as useless but since she defies him he constantly makes her lofe harder by forbidding her promotions and hiding jobs for her, so is like he's always lingering around, cursing her existance, that's why he appears as a curse when she puts her glasses

As a fan of Eve myself, I'm so happy that he's starting to get more recognition in the community. For the past 3 years, Eve's music has slowly made a place into my heart, and I wouldn't change anything about it.
Kaikai Kitan is a great song, and if you really like it, I HIGHLY recommend going to Eve's channel and listening to his songs. They're beautiful, creative, mystery inducing, emotional, etc. You get it.
He also has a Spotify in case you want to listen to any of his albums. My favorite album is his most recent one, Smile.

"Don't end up like me" (that is to say, dying all alone), it's shown right after we see his death, and could be viewed as us viewing the completion of that last desire. The ideal picnic. (And a sneaky way of telling us who Yuji can trust.)

Did you notice that Jogo, Hanami and the squid curses are freaking manifestation of human fear of earth, forest and ocean? They're like the strongest, terrifying, epic forces of nature and yet Gojo played with one of them. WTH And Mahito is human hatred manifested. Also, those 2 were actually mutated humans. Not curses at all. If you notice, curses mostly have purple blood, yet those two had red.
Also, Nanami may be my favorite character. I love him. He's funny, awesome and a nice guy!

One additional detail I absolutely adore is the way the song itself is integrated into the opening, especially in the first half. In the beginning riffs, we see Yuuji, who shows apathy to the world outside his cart and the city itself, equally unaware of the darkness sprawling right beneath the surface. Then, we're shown the first-year students as the singer kicks in, but his voice is quiet and only a few instruments play alongside it. With a guitar riff, we switch to the second years and as the voice becomes clearer, more instruments can be heard. But when Gojou is shown, the singer goes into a higher pitch and drums kick in. Afterwards, when Sukuna appears, all instruments but the drums go silent and the singers voice takes central stage.

9:09 is also a reference to the current arc in the manga! that fish is an emperor angelfish and it's an abortive migratory fish. this refers to the 'abortive migration' (the name of the culling game) which is a situation where animals that don't migrate get carried away to environments they don't belong in. it's also pretty common for them to die in those environments. jjk is so cool for making things in the ops relevant to manga content that hadn't even been released by that point.

Sleep is a state of unconsciousness, or at least semi-consciousness. Suggesting, maybe that he is "asleep" and Sukuna is in control, as he reaches that destiny.
it's also important to note that during the Gojo segment on top of Tokyo Tower, Eve sings a perfect octave interval, which is the highest interval in a musical scale, tying in the music to what is happening visually.
i just have to say that i LOVE the jujutsu techniques in this show. they’re for the most part very easy to understand but still so engaging and unique! nobara’s strawdoll & hammer techniques are very interesting to watch because they can be used in such cool ways, and i absolutely adore the fact that megumi has to actually make shadow animals with his hands to summon the shikigami. it’s really neat!
The curse in Maki's bit looks like the head of the Zenin family and her father Naobito Zenin, the person who keeps her down for not having curse energy.

His kaikai kitan video (not the jjk opening sequence, the full length video) is one of my favorites and its so unique within his music sphere, but some of his others absolutely bring me to tears every damn time (sister and promise holy shit) i think As You Like It and Dramaturgy are some of my other favorites but also i cant really decide because i love all of them. 7:57 I remember watching this shot and specifically remembering the scene from "Hereditary" where Peter (the protagonist) looks at his reflection in a cupboard and sees himself staring back but having a smuggy face while he was freaking out in class.
This shot kinda has the similar vibes to me. Sukuna has the ability to show himself mimicking Yuji due to their deal and that the teen is the only way he can come back to life fully, but also mocking him by grinning to show how he knows he will end in control over Yuji because their power difference and how far is Sukuna able to be cruel. It's like a predator that knows he already has won against its prey.

I'd love to see someone do a video about how well written gojo is as an OP character. I love how very early in the series its made pretty clear that not only is he the strongest but everybody knows it including all the bad guys in the show. Its not always easy writing someone OP and have them be relevant. Look at saitama, he gets less and less screen time as the anime and manga go on because him being around any bad guys has basically no steaks and ruins the plot.

they show the fish (another person said the fish represents a person who is extremely kind) right after displaying Gojo’s and Sukuna’s sluggishness. But Yuji does not Notice Sukuna in the glass looking at him. He doesn’t notice the mind games or whatever other plans between Gojo and sukuna, he is focused on the fished. Maybe this is hinting that Yuji is still too kind, he has got to let go of the fish to look up or he’s gonna get eaten cause Sukuna ain’t resting.

I think him being alone in the car is meant to represent Yuji's differences from everyone around him due to how he gained his cursed energy. Almost everyone else around him gained it via familial ties or having it innately but Yuji's different, since he gained it via eating one of Sukuna's fingers and being the only person capable of controlling Sukuna's powers to some regard.
He's unique and that causes him to feel alone, even if he doesn't realise it, sort of like how he's half asleep during the beginning and ending of the opening. He's different from all the other Sorcerers for the reason listed above, and he's different from the other Cursed Spirits since he is human and is harbouring one of their own inside of him.

Came back to watch this a third time, because it's just that good and insightful.
It's amazing how an entire story can be told in less than 2 minutes- and all it takes is a critical mind and attention to detail to catch it all without even being given all the clues just yet.
Have you watched "Heaven official's blessing" yet? It's on funimation and i highly, highly recommend it. Its a Chinese anime with absolutely stunning animation and a good story so far and omg the opening song is one of the best of the year.
