Once you have grandchildren your life really speeds up but it is so lovely! We have 6 from 5 yr. old twins to a 16 yr. old and we are busier but happier than ever.
I enjoy your videos. My father in law had Alzheimer’s and I took care of him for several years . He didn’t even know who I was at times .He saw me knitting one morning he told me “my grandma taught me how to knit “ . He went outside and took a old Bicycle tire and made me a set of knitting needle . He said that’s what he learned on. He remembered how to knit and didn’t even know who I was at time . Real men do knit . I love the blanket colors for November.
Yes Dan, Time is relative. The longer you've lived the shorter time seems. As a child, I remember a summer day seemed to last so looong! As a senior, time seem shorter and distances seem longer. Most seniors will get it : )
Enjoyed the show! After working in a cross stitch shop for over 20 years, may I make a suggestion? It's a good idea to remove the hoop when you are not working on the piece as the hoop can make hoop lines that are not able to be ironed out when you are done. Love the design and the needle minders! I may have to order the cup of hot chocolate, too!
Those were very generous prizes! Congratulations to all of the winners!! Every month I say "this is my favorite color" for the blanket. This one, as well, is spectacular!
Thanks Kay and Dan, love " my Favourite blanket " episodes. I am on my 3rd blanket. Made one with 2 strand fingering sock yarn and last two blankets are Worsted weight. All made out of stash yarn. We will not be cold this Winter in Atlantic Canada. 😂🥰🇨🇦Sharon.
As a cross-stitcher and a knitter, cross-stitching takes soooo much longer than knitting! That piece is so cute, though! I can't wait to see the end product.
Language constantly changes. It is not a static constant thing. It it a living thing that exists within the minds of the people who speak it. The English we speak today is not the same as the English that was spoken 500 years ago. Or 200 years ago or even 20 years ago. It’s something that absolutely fascinates me, to the extent that my first university degree was in language and linguistics.
Wow!!!excited!!!I won in the sock along,,,,,very lucky,,,, Loved it all month,,,, Thanks so much ,,,Kay and Dan,,, Will email you,,,, Such a great episode ,,,,and must catch up with my blanket,,,!!! Elaine🍁🎃
Just stopping by to say how wonderful to have your 'my Favorite Blanket' to make after I found I had to have a very serious operation. I used the starting pattern to finish it and have been cuddling up in it post op and it has been a wonderful project to make and to keep me warm as I recuperate. Thanks so much
Another great show. Loved it. I'm making 2 blankets; one for each of my granddaughters and I'm taking this section in a little bit different color direction. I've dyed all the others. This one, I've pulled from stash. Now, I think time is relative too but also based on our anticipations. As a kid we can't wait "to ride a bike', drive a car, go to the prom, be sixteen, be adult, for Christmas, for our birthday. And time just crawls as we wait for those things to happen. As we get older, those anticipatory moments get fewer. We've mostly experienced the "I can't wait for" things.
I'll be 65 in November and I can tell you that life has not been any less busy!! If anything it seems even more so. And as my birthday is in November that yarn is to die for!!! I will definitely have a go at that!!! ....just another thing to keep me busy!😂
I think in the fishing communities of this country as far North as the Shetlands and as far South as the Channel Islands men and women did carding, spinning, weaving, knitting, tatting and crocheting for hundreds of years. Our fisherfolk would never have survived without their fabulous hand made clothing and cloth. Does anyone have a pattern for a wedding ring shawl. I want to make one for my only Granddaughter's wedding next August. Four very grown up Gransons not interested in either shawls or weddings.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
When you asked your question about why time seems to be speeding up I felt SEEN! time seems to have gone much faster since I hit 21, which I’m convinced was yesterday (I’m 48)
As a child growing up in the 70’s I well remember my Mum knitting with Patons and Beehive patterns. Knitting does indeed seem changed now. A common stitch was ‘Slip 1 knit 1 pass the slipped stitch over - S1 K1 PSSO.’ You never see that terminology in today’s patterns. Mum also never used 5 double points. Just 4. She was amazed when I said sets have 5 or 6 dp needles now. Oh My, remember the slippers knit up in Phentex yarn? 😆 Oh how I disliked that yarn. 😊 Many wonderful memories of watching Mum knit though.
I love when a bias comes up in conversation about knitting....and it does because I knit in public, I wear tee shirts with knitter graphics...so knitting is a go to topic for strangers who approach waningt to chat ......... when someone starts with a statement that contains a prejudice I get the opportunity to open their minds - that's how change happens in everything really. So when someone says it's a dying art or only granny's knit or poor people knit to clothe their children, or it's weird to see a man knit, they get a lesson on the fishermen who created netting or gansies, or Queen Victoria who found it fun an relaxing or the multitudes young people who connect over the internet or forums or websites full of tips tutorials and pattern, or how there are knit rockstar designers or dyers or how you can watch podcasts full of knitting content.....be a proud knit ambassador.
Another great episode. Those words that are misused or are made up drive me bonkers. So many Americans will say , I seen them last week. It’s I saw them last week! I’ve seen them recently yes, seen them, nooooo. See you next time.
Life does not get less busy as you get older (I’m 71). Time goes faster every year ( but since I have no fixed schedule, I have no idea what day of the week it is)
Yes time does go by faster the older you get… and if like me you’re disabled and bed-bound days and weeks merge into one another if you’re not constantly vigil. Before you know it, another year has gone by, sometimes you can’t even remember what you did the day before! Getting older can be quite befuddling especially if you are not part of a community, or don’t speak to people for days on end, weeks on end months on end… etc
Dan I’m not totally surprised you would get the odd comment from people about your knitting but I do think it’s getting more popular for men. I taught my boyfriend about 3 years ago and he’s still knitting lots of hats and he knit his daughter a cardigan for Christmas last year. Tbh when he’s seen your podcast he’s been quite jealous of your skills. Also my dad’s grandfather learned how to knit when he was in the Dutch army. They had to knit socks in some of their down time. Thanks again for a great podcast! Loving My Favourite Blanket!
Yes, Years go faster as you get older. I think it is the relative % of your life lived. When you are young a year is a large percentage of your life. A year for a 5 year old last a fifth of their life. But the older you get, it becomes a smaller and smaller percentage which gives the impression that they are flashing past ever faster.
I think of it as percentages. When you are 5, it takes forever to get to the next Christmas because it was 20% of your life. When you were 50, Christmas came quicker because it was only 2% of your life. Your point of references get more compressed as you get older. My solution is to just knit faster!
Dan, sorry but yes, time just seems to speed up when you get older... I can attest to this myself at 69... the last 10 to 15 years have just flown by! Kay, I just have to ask, where do you get the gorgeous necklaces you've been wearing, I adore the multi coloured one and today's red one is beautiful too ❤️
Thank you ! Both were gifts from Dan, the one I wore in this episode was from Azendi in York and the rainbow one we got from Hexham. That shop doesn’t have an online presence but it’s by a German company called Coeur de Lion ❤️
The months fly by faster than ever! I still work ft so that doesn't help. I haven't listened to your radio show yet but yes, there's still assumptions based on man things and women things,. I've gotten caught in that because since a toddler I've been drawn to using tools and " fixing" things , although now at this point I don't want to be bothered lol but worked in a traditional male occupation but got lots of support from other women on that. But the expectations to act a certain way is still there.

Bravo! I so appreciate your honesty principles. I get very tired of some of the US TH-cam knitters who do not follow that.
Two of my favourite podcasters

My daughter bought me a tee shirt with the word “yarnologist” in sparkly lettering across the front!
So I’m a knitologist and yarnologist!

Loving the Hobbitty Halloween rainbow socks.
Wonderful episode. You two were extra adorable! I too have a partner much taller than me!!

Kay, I think you should leave the second sleeve unfinished and stitch in some DPNs as if the jumper is still in progress. 😂
Hello from Mounds, Illinois.
Life does not get less busy as you get older (I’m 71). Time goes faster every year ( but since I have no fixed schedule, I have no idea what day of the week it is)
The face on Dan after Kay said he would be sewing in the ends 😂

Roxanne Richardson made a video very recently about picking up stitches around a neckline. Very detailed, with a few very useful tips!
Love the Halloween socks. Pixie yarn doesn’t seem to carry it anymore.😢

Kay, I had the same exact thing happen with a v-neck vest. The pattern called for many more stitches to be picked up. So strange.
No, time is speeding up. The earth is moving into a higher vibration. Xxx

You get busier as you get older.
Sorry to say the day fly by. I wish i could get it to slow down.
Believe me the older you get the faster time goes unfortunately it’s scary fast I am 66 I was just 21 yesterday or so it seems
Back in time there were knitting Guilds that were men only. Women I guess didn’t knit then.
