@@Dibbs6 same here man. If Andrew recommends it, I know it’s gonna be right. So far, I haven’t been disappointed. I’ve picked up almost every recommended vinyl he’s recommended. I just completed my collection of every CD.
The Alexa mono joke is great! Most people don't realize they're listening to mono on their soundbars and smartspeakers. Great production, as usual Andrew. Cheers.
I had NO idea what the reference was with the Alexa joke (and I’ll never EVER allow that nosey, pokey little Alexa into my home - anyway, thanks for clarifying/explaining that joke !!
My brother and I discussed the day when Revolver came out. In 1966 we had this crappy mono player and yet it was the first time when my brother's realized when a Lp was an excellent record. We played it through and immediately played it all again. We realized for the first time if a record is exceptional, you play it multiple times without interruptions. At that time in 1966, none of us can remember discussing sonic issues. It was just an excellent record. The first mono issue we wore out in less than 3 years. This latest release took us back to the time of reflection and we are very grateful to all those technicians and engineers who give their all to improve this fantastic album.
Easily the best analysis I’ve seen of this album. I do love the 2022 remix. The first track I listened to was “Here There and Everywhere” and was blown away at how beautiful it sounded.
i actually really love the panning of the effects on tomorrow never knows. the left-right movement of the effects and also the reverse guitar solo, combined with ringo’s drumming, almost makes the song feel like a clock, with the effects swinging back and forth like a pendulum. it creates an incredibly psychedelic and otherworldly effect that i love!
ATOC has another name, known to every broadcaster and recording engineer on this planet. It’s called “Limiting”. It has always struck me as a bit strange that some of the best compressor/limiters ever made are British, yet on so many British recordings, they don’t seem to know how to use these brilliantly designed and built pieces of equipment to their best advantage. Oh well… life is FULL of mysteries. What is NOT a mystery is just how good Andrew is at making these videos!
Amazing!! You discuss issues that I've thought about for decades...but was too afraid to ask. I take off my hat to your dedication to illustrating the comparisons of the music laid down and produced by the Beatles in the studio. I feel so "dumb" after watching this! Here I thought I knew it all. Thanks for opening my eyes and ears to this.
As much as I hope Giles does Rubber Soul next, I really want him at some point to do Magical Mystery Tour and the singles from 1968/69 (Hey Jude, Revolution, Ballad of John and Yoko, etc).
I don't know about Andrew's jurisdiction, but in the US it's supposedly legal to use up to 30 seconds of a song provided you are actually doing a commentary on it at the time and not using it as just background or transition or something.
I agree about She Said She Said being shocking on first listening, however the entire Revolver remix is really good in my opinion. I have no complaints about Tomorrow Never Knows, I like the panning. I really can't imagine it sounding any other way now. I absolutely love it! Thank you for the excellent summary and explanation of the funereal black band, especially with the cute nod on the envelope. As for the mystery caller, who is Jeff/Geoff? Mr. Emerick? Too scary but timely for Halloween. Again, another great video!!! As for the box opening, this is to sit properly on your shelf like the original LP's with front cover in front. So you can pull the LP's from the open, and when you are perusing your collection you can see the front cover.
Revolver is my favorite Beatles album. What this remix does that the others didn't do was keep the overall sound of the album intact. I'm fairly happy with it overall, but one thing I wish Giles did was use the mono mix as a basis for how the remix should sound and expand the mono like he did with Sgt Pepper, rather than make a tighter and cohesive stereo mix, like he did here. Overall, though, I'm extremely happy with the remix. I did buy the CD set, and I was disappointed with how flimsy the sleeves were that held the discs and how cheap they felt. Your in-depth analysis has made me want to start dropping hints for the vinyl set so I can have how the set is supposed to be. I seriously hope that Giles and his team next turn their attention to the post-Pepper/pre-White Album era that includes the exclusive songs for the Yellow Submarine and Magical Mystery Tour films, the single A and B sides "All You Need Is Love", "Baby You're A Rich Man", "Hello Goodbye", "You Know My Name" -- and a version included of it's original 6:12 length, "Lady Madonna", "The Inner Light" and the original version of "Across The Universe". This period should not be erased or lost to time. It should be given the same treatment of everything else so far.
They're probably going back to the beginning next, since the 60th anniversaries of the 1963 albums are coming up? I don't think anything will be forgotten when they've finished doing the remixes. But you never know what Apple will do next?
I'd love to have a Magical Mystery Tour vinyl box set like the other sets so far. Not too keen on Rubber Soul, as MMT was sort of skipped over. I guess I've heard the songs played a little too much.
About the funeral feel of the border: Revolver is almost a concept LP about death. Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, Love You Too, She Said She Said and Tomorrow Never Knows mention it directly, while other songs hint at loss. Lyrically as well as sonically it’s a fascinating essay and worthy of the title ‘masterpiece’. Thanks for this review, watched on the edge of my seat in trepidation to see if my £169 was a worthy spend. Phew!
@@lawrencewinslow1260 Yes it is. (And the previous butcher cover has Paul holding a decapitated baby head with his wristwatch above it showing 'time running out'.)
My theory on the left handed opening is for you to put all the LPs spines facing out and then put the whole box on the shelf like a regular bunch of records. So if you want to take one out you can identify it without necessarily pulling the whole box out.
Yep. Nailed it. It's so you can retreive the LPs while still on the shelf rather than taking the entire box off to get an LP out to listen to. It encourages listening.
Thanks again Andrew. When it comes to all things Beatles, there's no one on any of these many TH-cam sites whose knowledge of the music and various mixes/pressings I respect and trust more. Great stuff, as always...
Brilliant review Andrew!! The gold standard on TH-cam in my opinion. I was really taken by the stereo remix LP and then I listened to the mono and wow….seemed more organic and very dynamic. Much of the good qualities I thought the remix had also were obvious in the mono (except soundstage of course) with a great 3D presentation. I’m hoping Rubber Soul is next off the rank for this treatment and can’t wait.
Sunday's arnt the same without you! I've been watching you for almost a year now and i hope this channel only grows. Thank you for top quality content .
Thank you for this level of detail sir! I just purchased an un-played loose 2022 Mono from a damaged box set, ultrasonically cleaned this afternoon and looking forward to spinning it this pm.
I think it's nice that all these versions are available. Some people want to hear the extra hum at the beginning of "Taxman," they have the option to do so with the earlier versions. Some people are acting like the new mix somehow made the older versions disappear from their collections. EDIT: regarding the orientation of the spines in the slipcase, they're supposed to be like that. Slipcases didn't originally have any ornamentation and the books (i.e. the slipcase contents) are displayed spine side out.
Andrew, I believe the box opens to the left so the record spines can be seen and accessed individually along with the book when oriented “correctly” on a shelf. Also if the box opened to the right, the discs would have to be oriented “backwards” in relation to the cover in order to access them individually from the shelf and to keep them from having the open end of the sleeves on the outside with the potential to slip out when moving the box. It seems if you are going to have a vinyl box set in which the records slip out from one end, the most logical and user friend is from the left especially when having a die cut feature such as Let It Be.
My biggest complaint about the remix is that on tracks with double-tracked vocals, each vocal is hard-panned left and right rather than having both combined into a tight center image. The result is a diffuse, almost out-of-phase vocal.
And in the chorus of Eleanor Rigby, Paul's lead vocal switches to the sides, and he becomes a backing vocalist with the harmonies. There's a very large hole in the middle, because the strings are split so hard left and right. Would've been nice to have the 2nd violin and viola more central. Those who are saying the quartet/octet is spread nicely over the stereo soundscape aren't listening closely.
I hung of every word Andrew, been looking forward to this all week!! BTW, if we're taking a poll on quality control, I have scratches, _yes actual scratches,_ on 2 sides of my set. My local store swapped for a replacement set - all good now.
Excellent and thorough review, Andrew. And, love the cheeky coda. 😁👍🏼 for me, the biggest sonic revelation was the original version of Rain. Almost garage rock (and Ringo’s killing it!).
This really was an in-depth review, Andrew with your usual precise, accurate and spot on observations and analyses! If anyone was in two minds about buying the Revolver box set, I think this video will have dispelled any reservations!
Good to hear that Magee has got his act together after the fiasco with the 2009 remasters. As for the new stereo mix, well it's very clever and clean but the balance is not quite right. It really needs the volume turning up and even then...
Andrew, excellent review!! Great analysis!! For me, the new remix, while greatly improved in places, falls short in a lot of places!! I'm a remix engineer myself, & these guys did not do the work properly when it came to separate George & John's (or Paul's) electric guitars. "She Said She Said" is a bad mix, with one or both guitars completely dropping out in places. This happens on 2 or 3 other tracks as well. My biggest disappointment is "And Your Bird Can Sing". Paul & George's lead guitars are together, when it has been demonstrated that they can be COMPLETELY separated & panned left & right for a stunning mix (leaving John's guitar in the center). There are other elements like bass levels, percussion levels etc. And the stereo lead vocals are annoying. Lead vocal should be center with harmonies spread. The 2014 mono mix is the go to mix. Tiger.
Well done! It's great to hear a thorough, thoughtful, articulate evaluation from someone whose chief motivation seems to be well-considered documentation which serves as thought-fodder for those who already own the deluxe set and guidance for those who are mulling over buying some version of it. Bravo!
Nice video.😎P.S.everyone plays samples of music, even the Beatles, but you know more than them,so from envy they have a hawk eye on your work. You' re first on TH-cam who doesn' t like 180gr vinyl,RESPECT!
Thanks for the review Andrew! This was one of the albums that I was waiting to be remixed. I love the way it sounds. I like all of the remixes in general but this and Sgt. Pepper were my favorite (and the ones that needed it the most). The mono sounds great as well although I haven’t compared them to my 2014 and 1982 versions. The outtakes are great too. A terrific set overall. Hopefully Rubber Soul is next but for now I will focus on what we have. Thanks for sharing!
I don't see these original stereo mixes as "quick jobs". I think the engineer and producer when they worked on a stereo mix already had a good idea of what to do, since they had just finished working on the mono version, so it wouldn't take much time. Maybe they even had some afterthoughts and changed little things on the stereo version. The signal path used for stereo recording was also a bit more modern and higher fidelity than the one for mono. Better level of clarity overall. Stereo was new, and people who had access to it were essentially listening on speakers, not headphones, so the producers wanted to make full use of these two channels, making some radical choices sometimes.
Great and thorough review! It’s interesting how the Beatles camp gets so much right in these reissues but simultaneously misses or omits major details. I’m just happy we keep getting these great boxes and expanded sets.
Thank you, Andrew, for these instructive videos. Imagine, how old I am: I bought Love Me Do when it came out in Canada! What you have been doing with these videos (Hollies included) is simply honorable. I am so glad you raised the MONEY issue in this Revolver analysis. Yes, I find the prices outrageous. I just purchased a box set by Brian Eno and one of Chris Rea and they were a third of the price, combined not even half of the cost of this boxset. Even if I am interested in listening to this new edit, I cannot afford this pleasure. It is a large piece of what money I have to survive. And I am a real Beatles fan. These new records are simply too expensive for most of working people. So once again thank you for hinting at this highly political issue.
Haha! Love the ending of the video with the call from Jeff Jones. Andrew, your content is simply phenomenal. I love all of it, but you set a new benchmark with this incredible review. Your viewers are beyond grateful. I also love the box set and remix. Can’t wait to see and hear what’s next-that is, whenever you and Jeff are ready to share it with us. 🤣
I would love to hear you talk more about the impact of instrument separation, de-compression and removal of harmonic distortion on the overall vibe of vintage recordings. They lose a certain mojo and become more clinical.
A brilliant exposé! I loved it. The .wav files are so important to show (to me) and expertly explained! I love the differences, good or bad, in the mixing choices. Personally, nothing bad here! I never knew about the black border thing. Interesting. But the darkening of the tones of the pics on the cover should have been easily fixed with at least some desaturation. But hey, it’s a great set over all. The best I think so far. Thanks again for sharing your views! Til next time! Oh and maybe check if there is a discrepancy in speed from the vinyl set to the cd set version?👍💚🎶
18:57 Regarding the static nature of the tape loops in the original mix. That's exactly how I hear it but wasn't able to put it into words. Doors opening and closing sums it up perfectly. Thank you!
How in the world does Andrew not have over one ba-jillion subs? Is that even a thing anymore? Cheese and crackers, man, Parlogram is just the best at this stuff and type of knowledge transfer. I not only look forward to hearing his opinion, I respect it, (despite not always agreeing). I've learned so much from Andrew over the last couple of years. @andrew... dude, never change, you provide a valuable service. Well, not changing is overall bad, just um, maybe, 'enhance things' as it's needed, (but man, never lose what you got with this channel). Thanks Andrew, as always.
I bought the remix special with the revolver slip mat. I've been playing it here and there to not burn out by listening over and over too much. So far I'm hearing different sounds I've never heard before.. Especially I'm only sleeping She said and Eleanor Rigby. I'm sure to discover more but for now the team that did this remixes deserve a Free Pint at every Pub in the UK. Bully for them! 👍🍺✌️
Would love to see a return to dynaflex! Especially if it made records cheaper, great analysis as always, loved the zoom interaction on the spectrograph
Wonderful review! Although I've been more enthused about the Giles mixes than you have been up to this point, I had similar experiences upon first listen to the Revolver 2022 stereo mix. At times it just felt so "off" that it was distracting. But upon repeated listens, I've come to appreciate what he and the rest of the team were able to do. Like all the other Giles mixes, they may not be meant for us but more for younger generations expecting modern production techniques. Overall I really like the box, and I'm thrilled that a mono Revolver is now properly available on streaming. Even if the 2009 mono CD may be my preference, this one is so close. And, of course, the outtakes are a gift to the fans. John's Yellow Submarine demo is nothing short of stunning.
I have done a thorough listen to my original stereo and mono compared to this new set. I think Giles did an amazing job on the new stereo remix. This was the stereo mix it deserved. Everything is clearer and perfect sounding. The vinyl was flat and clean…and Giles half speed sounded rather good to me. This will be my go to way of listening to this album. The mono is ok. I just like it for the slightly different mixes. Honestly I think it is just nostalgia. There is a reason mono was abandoned. It stinks in general. Also, Sean Magee odd cat. Check out Steve Westman’s video interviewing him about cutting this mono. For me they hit this out of the park on this release with everything they gave to us. Thank you remaining Beatles and Giles. I don’t miss that hum at the beginning of the stereo remix. Does nothing for the music. I also listened to this extensively in atmos thru my AirPods Pro. It is quiet good but the surround is not super noticeable. The bleed together like the mono is something I would agree with. Great video. Love your work Andrew. Agree they should get you involved with the next one. They should have added your breakdown of how the cover was made. Cheers!
Thanks. What a great review. I've listened to the digital version of the new Revolver release a couple of times via headphones and car stereo from iTunes release and LOVED it. I particularly liked the enhanced bass and drums. I was even more impressed by the mono mix. I couldn't believe MONO could sound so good and seem to come from everywhere, like you say, the "3D" effect. So I was going to settle for the digital version in this case. Your unboxing made me begin to appreciate how tangible vinyl is. Touch. Weight. Etc. Now this review has pushed me over the edge. I guess I'll have to invest in another darn boxed set. Thanks, I guess.
I've had to return 2 vinyl boxsets because the warping on disc 2 of the outtakes has been absolutely unacceptable. I didn't have to lower my tonearm, they were that warped.
I agree with Tomorrow never knows not really jives with me. The panning of the effects just does not work. She said she said does not sound as good as well. Still going through the sessions but it was a great move to go from RM11 to RM8, as it is indeed a far better mix. Niw I have to save up for the box vinyl set to get the 2022 mono LP.
Great review as always Andrew! I really like these unboxing videos and reviews as I cannot afford any of these box sets, so I enjoy them vicariously via your channel :) One question about heavyweight vinyl though - are heavier records less likely to warp and buckle than records c.100g? My copy of Queen's Greatest Hits 2 would blow away in a breeze and one disc is fairly buckled (though it does still play) I agree that marketing execs really do make far too much of 180g though.
Fantastic review and summary Andrew. I’m really enjoying the box set of The Beatles most MOD album. Not remotely bothered about less heavy vinyl. Grew up buying 80s records 😊
Andrew this is a phenomenally detailed review - I enjoyed every moment of it. Your information and observations are fantastic. I particularly loved the piece about the funeral cards. It made me laugh out loud that you would even twig that! A review worthy of the fantastic boxset. I agree with you on everything you said by the way - but I think I still prefer my 2014 mono over the 2022. I find it a little warmer and pulled back - which only serves to pull me in deeper. It's all subjective though. Well done on the hard work on this video - it totally comes across. Thanks!
Great review Andrew!! I bought Revolver on CD I like hearing the Beatles outtakes on CDs better. And I bought the Stan alone album with the new mix. Can’t wait till Rubber Soul!
Best review of the box, hands down! Incidentally, I saw an interview with Sean Magee on TH-cam where he was asked if he compared the 2014 and 2022 mono’s. He responded that he has not, and will not as in his mind, they should be identical. Found that interesting as most reviewers have noted the 2022 sounds better.
Andrew your point about mono sounding three dimensional is so spot on. I never truly enjoyed "Lucy In The Sky with Diamonds" until I heard those "ahhhs" sounding like shimmering diamonds--that was the moment I "got" mono. I agree that the mono here is fantastic while the stereo takes some getting used to. Even the correction of errors (like Paul's vocal overdub goof on Eleanor Rigby) takes me out of the mix at times. As usual another outstanding report, you are TH-cam's premier Beatles reference.
@@prettyshinyspaghetti8332 On the very first line the stereo engineer split Paul's doubletracked vocal on the word "Eleanor" on two channels then went with one vocal track the rest of the way. Now not hearing it that way gets me discombobulated. Minor difference yet my ears are used to hearing the edit flub.
@@gilassp Exactly what I'm talking about yes. Almost like a chorus flange effect, possibly a happy accident they had in-studio that they had experimented with. Whatever they did it sounds otherworldly and beautiful.
Yes, this Revol ver set is the first one to be a real advantage above the original. Previously I always focused on the 'extras', this time I have focused on playing the Revolver album ... great stuff
I truly enjoy your reviews and video histories. For myself, I would go crazy comparing releases. I prefer just knowing I have a decent version and going with it and enjoying the music. Thanks!
In depth indeed. Great information in such a condensed format, and a touch of humour that makes it all seem effortless. Congratulations! And thank you, of course.
Great and informative as always, Andrew. Currently waiting for my copy of the box set. So looking forward to it. Thanks for your great and thorough work. Quality all the way ✌🏼
Absolutely brilliant as always. As fas as TNK, when we heard it at a preview listening event in New York, we heard the whole album in Atmos in a large studio and the swirling sound effects were mind blowing. As were the ending “Good Day Sunshine” harmonies in the song of the same name. I wasn’t really bothered by no hum at the beginning of Taxman. I was more enamored that we can now hear what John actually says in Dr. Robert instead of Ok Herb on the sessions disc. Lol. All in all, a well done set.
When I first heard the new stereo mix of "She Said She Said", that extra guitar line sounded so wrong I could not get my head around it ! But you're right when you say once you listen again, it's fine and it is ! You can hear that quite clearly on the Sessions too. Great vid, Andrew. Cheers Tim
Andrew, you are the best authority on the Beatles' work in every way. I enjoy your videos and the channel a great deal. Keep up the great work; cheers! :)
Got mine late last week and I'm rather happy with it. Only listened to the remix, outtakes, and 7" so far so I'm pretty chuffed to hear that the new mono master is an improvement on the one in the mono box, as I was rather confused as to why it was included. The new stereo mix was interesting as it gives me an idea of what could have been if they had more than 4 tracks to record on. I never really had an issue with the original stereo mix, nor on any of their other albums, as I grew up on those as a kid thanks to my dad's LP's and just thought back then that the hard panning of instruments was the way they did it back in the 60's ("Wow, we have stereo and can make it sound weird now!") and not because of technical limitations.
Regarding the Let It Be box set. My book was printed wrong, so when you open up the book, everything is upside down. I wonder how many of these were printed?
As a Beatles fan and a viny collector, I really wonder why I didn't stumble over your channel earlier. Great review and it convinced me now to buy the revolver deluxe edition, despite the high price, but it came in the right time, because today Amazon offers the box for 169€ instead of 189€. Also I liked you comment about the whole 180g business, I do not like it and I wish they would stop doing this, it is useless and just makes the cover thicker which makes it harder to fit them in to a outer record sleeve. Greetings from Germany.
You have the best Beatles channel. Great analysis and review of this important album. I was thinking the same thing about the 2022 and 2014 mono discs trading places in the sleeves.
Brilliant!! Andrew, your reviews always go that extra mile. I will stream the mono and stereo versions again tomorrow in 24-bit from Amazon. There are things that struck me but I want to check my opinion. Thanks again for the fantastic review.
In the case of Revolver I have no idea but with Let It Be the decision of flipping the opening of the box has most likely to do with their choice to implement the cut out in the box itself. In order for that to be the correct way with the items in the box and the general correct way of book covers, vinyl covers and CDs among many other things as we are used to putting them on a shelf. They had to flip the opening to the other side.
Excellent review and discussion. Fair and well balanced on all the aspects of the various incarnations of Revolver. I especially enjoyed the discussion of how a mono pressing is made. I expect that whenever a new take on a classic album comes out, half the people are going to like it and half aren't. Finally, I am chuckling because only The Beatles can compel someone to make a 30 minute review of a 35 minute album. 😄
Excellent review, Andrew ! But if you’re correct and they continue to release improved mono mixes of each of the remaining albums the only thing worth any money in the 2014 set will be the box and book !! 😂😂😂
Amazing Analysys about this box set! Unfortunately I can’t buy it but I am happy to watch great videos like this one. As far as I know the weight of the disc only helps the stability of the record itself…. The pressing’s quality is another story. Thank you so much Andrew! We love you!!
I just received my copy of the box set yesterday and listened to the mono record today. It sounds great on my AT-LP120X and I recommend getting the box set just for it; especially that once stocks run out, the value will skyrocket.
Thank you Andrew! Great and comprehensive research as always. Personally I think that vinyl should be around 140-150 grams, as it was back in 60’s. But for the sake of economy and ecology the vinyl weight should be reduced.
Since I subscribed recently I have been watching quite a lot of your videos… always waiting for the red telephone to ring. Today it rang. Happy days… Thanks for your work, Andrew. I love the way you’re telling stories and the high quality of your videos. The retro style intertitels are a pleasure to watch! See you soon -- Martin
Andrew, as always, informative and insightful. I was pleasantly surprised at the new stereo mix. “She Said” IMO is great with the separated guitars. TNN doesn’t have the cohesion due to the FX panning. (Surprising they didn’t isolate each FX and place them within the stereo field. ). One thing I JUST learned is that the backwards guitar solo was lifted from the Taxman sessions & flown in. My only real complaint is the demo for “She Said’ which was sourced from a lossy bootleg. There’s other versions out there that sound much better and a shame that the collectors world wasn’t contacted, or enough research was done. In response to “fixing” things on the master (ie: Abbey Road) nothing should be tampered with, unless it’s a splice that needs repairing. Anything inherent in the original mixes should be left as is. All in all, a good sounding package
I think this release did great in improving the stereo mixes we had, it is definitely my new preferred way of listening to this album in stereo. And I'm sure Rubber Soul (which I assume will be the next release) will also greatly benefit from a remix, what we have as of now can barely be considered a propper stereo mix, I always listen to that in mono, if the yellow submarine songtrack remix of nowhere man is any indication, they should be able to do some pretty interesting stuff with it as well.
I love Giles an Sam's remixes since the start, and I want them to go all the way through. But I can't stand For No One and Doctor Robert's new remix. The bass drum is loud enough so as to notice it's playing ahead of the bass and once I did, I couldn't concentrate on the rest of it. Maybe this was the reason it was buried down the mix on the first place. And I really miss that loud and long cymbals sound on She Said She Said. Thanks so much Andrew for your videos, such a contribution to the Beatles community. I hardly miss one!
The new mono version is the first I’ve heard where I suddenly understood what all the fuss is about with Beatles on mono. I liked the new stereo - although the bass is too loud - but have quickly settled on the new mono album version. Incredibly it sounds almost like stereo with everything separated yet sounds much more like how the Beatles have always sounded? Like a modern version of the same music.
Andrew, you’re getting to be an important mainstay in the online Beatles community. Absolutely stellar work.
He is and has been for ages.
Apple needs to give Andrew an essay spot in the anniversary book already
I bought the CD set when it came out and I have been looking forward to this review all week. Thanks Andrew.
Apple certainly couldn't go wrong. I consider Andrew to be the most knowledgable Beatles expert I know. That is why I am subscribed to him.
Andrew should work for Apple.👍🏻
@@2AM_DOM that’d be fantastic. not a detail would be missed
Cheers.
This is why our band makes dedicated mono mixes for streaming.
Mono needs to make a comeback
That 'remix' is compressed into clipping. You can have it. I'll stay with my original mono copy.
The finger snapping is subdued in the remix !
@@cjay2 I'm looking at the waveform right now. I don't see any clipping.
@@p0llenp0ny I think he's saying it was basically compressed to hell with limiters and then put down 0.2db or whatever to prevent actual clipping
The only track I'm dissatisfied with is She Said She Said. It's too clean, doesn't have that punch the song had before.
i actually really love the panning of the effects on tomorrow never knows. the left-right movement of the effects and also the reverse guitar solo, combined with ringo’s drumming, almost makes the song feel like a clock, with the effects swinging back and forth like a pendulum. it creates an incredibly psychedelic and otherworldly effect that i love!
Another brilliant video. This is like doing a PhD on the Beatles. Great work prof. Andrew
Another golden nugget Andrew, you should be authorized to let us hear songs due to what you’re doing for the Beatles’s legacy
I don't know about Andrew's jurisdiction, but in the US it's supposedly legal to use up to 30 seconds of a song provided you are actually doing a commentary on it at the time and not using it as just background or transition or something.
Of all the remixes, I am enjoying this one the most! The stereo album is truly amazing.

The Giles "remix" is compressed into clipping. Of course it sounds lively as hell.
Phew!
Your comment hss probably cleared something up for me. This might hsve been the album to which George tried to submit Art of Dying.
Plus, it was the last album completed before Paul's alleged "death". Possibly another clue??? 😏
@@lawrencewinslow1260 Yes it is. (And the previous butcher cover has Paul holding a decapitated baby head with his wristwatch above it showing 'time running out'.)
@@neilsun2521Grow up, already!
That’s it
Brilliant review Andrew!!
Thanks for watching, Andrew!
Thank you for this level of detail sir! I just purchased an un-played loose 2022 Mono from a damaged box set, ultrasonically cleaned this afternoon and looking forward to spinning it this pm.
Hope you enjoy it!
Great analysis, Andrew. I loved the remix, and I can’t wait for Rubber Soul to get the same treatment.
Love the attention to detail in this review.
Apple & everyone involved can breath a sigh of relief that you're giving it the thumbs up 😊
Andrew, I believe the box opens to the left so the record spines can be seen and accessed individually along with the book when oriented “correctly” on a shelf.
Exactly!!! That is my biggest gripe with the remix!!
Heh...that's exactly why I LOVE it!
I hung of every word Andrew, been looking forward to this all week!! BTW, if we're taking a poll on quality control, I have scratches, _yes actual scratches,_ on 2 sides of my set. My local store swapped for a replacement set - all good now.
Andrew, I went straight to Udiscover website and ordered the vinyl box because your enthusiasm converted me.
Brilliant review, Andrew. Was a great pleasure to watch it. Thanks a lot
Glad you enjoyed it, Dmitry!
Excellent and thorough review, Andrew. And, love the cheeky coda. 😁👍🏼 for me, the biggest sonic revelation was the original version of Rain. Almost garage rock (and Ringo’s killing it!).
I've seen all the rest review this, now I'm watching the best.
Bravo!
Thank you, Jim!
I waited all week for this review, and it did not disappoint. Great job, Andrew!
the video we’ve all been waiting on, terrific job as always!
Thanks David. Glad you enjoyed it!
I would love to hear you talk more about the impact of instrument separation, de-compression and removal of harmonic distortion on the overall vibe of vintage recordings. They lose a certain mojo and become more clinical.
The telephone ringing at the end startled me and I spilled tea all over the original "Revolver" cover artwork!
No one would be careless enough to drink tea over their original copy of Revolver, you're making shit up
Spilling a brew all on Beatles artwork is fine because Paul originally wanted a coffee-cup stain on the White Album.
Well done as always, Andrew. This is the best review of the Revolver box set that I’ve seen yet!
Thank you, Joe!
Joe Rizzo and everyone else, please check out ‘Michael Noland: The Bottom Line’ review of Revolver, also excellent
As always, very interesting and super informative. You are my Beatles Guru. Thank you for another awesome video Andrew!
Wow, thank you!
Great review, Andrew. By far, the best box yet, as it should be for the Beatles best album.
I had the exact same experience with the new mix of She Said She Said. Excellent analysis as always, Andrew.
Cheers!
Parlogram is my fave yt channel. Every video is worth of revisting. Thank you Andrew for your great content.
Thank you for watching!
Revolver is such a classic album. I brought the vinyl & the 2CD edition from Amazon it sounds amazing.
Great job thanks. Agree with the weight issue. I have wobbly 80s vinyl that sound great
I agree with Tomorrow never knows not really jives with me. The panning of the effects just does not work. She said she said does not sound as good as well. Still going through the sessions but it was a great move to go from RM11 to RM8, as it is indeed a far better mix. Niw I have to save up for the box vinyl set to get the 2022 mono LP.
Been waiting for Andrew's review of this box set before I buy it.
I know I will get a detailed and honest description.
Thanks.
Great review as always Andrew! I really like these unboxing videos and reviews as I cannot afford any of these box sets, so I enjoy them vicariously via your channel :)
One question about heavyweight vinyl though - are heavier records less likely to warp and buckle than records c.100g? My copy of Queen's Greatest Hits 2 would blow away in a breeze and one disc is fairly buckled (though it does still play)
I agree that marketing execs really do make far too much of 180g though.
Thanks!
Thanks Kevin. Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Glen. I saw that interview too. Sean said that he did it in a different room so his line levels could have been different.
Vocal overdub goof? Where is that?
@@prettyshinyspaghetti8332 On the very first line the stereo engineer split Paul's doubletracked vocal on the word "Eleanor" on two channels then went with one vocal track the rest of the way. Now not hearing it that way gets me discombobulated. Minor difference yet my ears are used to hearing the edit flub.
There's some phasing effect on the chorus vocals of the mono Lucy that is not present in the original stereo mix
Previously I always focused on the 'extras', this time I have focused on playing the Revolver album ... great stuff
Great review!! I hope next year we get Rubber Soul!! It's my favorite Beatles album.
Andrew youre a legend ! I love to watch each video, so much information , its amazing
Wow Andrew, was not expecting that statement regarding the 2022 mono mix. Excellent review as always. Always love the spectrograph
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks, will do!
Outstanding! Excelent video, packed with priceless info, thanks!
Great review Andrew worth the wait....your thoughts have helped me make up my mind on weather to buy it or not......P.s I think I will.
Thanks
Excellent review, Andrew ! But if you’re correct and they continue to release improved mono mixes of each of the remaining albums the only thing worth any money in the 2014 set will be the box and book !! 😂😂😂
Amazing Analysys about this box set! Unfortunately I can’t buy it but I am happy to watch great videos like this one.
As far as I know the weight of the disc only helps the stability of the record itself…. The pressing’s quality is another story.
Thank you so much Andrew! We love you!!
It is incredible how much I have learned after watching your videos. What an informative review of this box set!
Andrew, I really value your opinion and have been holding back on buying pending your opinion. You’ve given me the green light.
Thanks again, Martin!
Great video, Andrew. As usual. Cheers, Nelio.
I bought the 2CD set and it’s definitely better than the old stereo mixes. It’s like it was recorded in the 70s.
Another brllliant informative review andrew! I will be going to HMV to pick this up tomorrow. I'm so excited now.
Thanks! Let us know what you think if it.
