- In this episode I show you where to find your own placer gold right inside the city of Edmonton.
Gold Bar creek is located on the east end of the city and is a tributary to the North Saskatchewan River #nsr
Thanks for watching!
Until the next time,
Heavy pans!!
#goldprospecting #myhobbies #getoutside
So fun to watch. Thank you.
I remember going to Rundle Park with my dad and panning on Saturdays. Good memories. He got the fever
One hell of a spot! I've seen that area on another channel must be a great place to find that shiny!
Definitely!
2019 I had the great pleasure to assist a couple of dudes sluice on the North Saskatchewan :) The gold flakes were sparkling all around me. I had a blast helping out ❤
They had several gold dredges in history running on the North Sask. Using that level of larger scale operation made it feasible financially. Their dredges were destroyed by flooding though.
u might wana invest some your gold in exchange for a tripod lmao
Haha ya maybe one day,
@@d.andysprospecting good vid bud :)
Are you allowed sluice boxes in the north North Sask valley?
Only in waterways over 60’ wide from my understanding.
No, you cannot put a sluice box directly in a water way in Alberta. You must have a highbanker. Basically a hopper above the sluice box, fed by water from the waterway by way of a hose and pump.
You also need a placer license $50 for 5 years
@@kyleanderson2045 And a city permit for in Edmonton. Not sure who you call for that one anymore.
@@scottmacd37 coal and mineral development unit office downtown… it’s an extra $60 for 1 year… it’s so you don’t get fined by authorities. You tell them where and when you will be sluicing… obviously a cash grab, would just go outside of the city.
Clean up well there is a chemical settling pond upstream from you.
So awesome to have this in your "backyard", Great video Andy!
Thanks dude, it truly is an awesome little creek :)
Hope that Australia is treating you good!
You're better off buying a pail of home Depot Sand, and panning that.
Where is this in edmonton, would love to bring my young boys.
it's across Rundle Park bridge on the south side of the river down in creek
Me and a friend set up a Le Trap in GB Creek. Built a damn around it, threw in a few shovels and saw the best line of flower gold. Which is illegal i found out later. An old timer found enough gold in GB Creek to make gold rings for all his grandchildren.
Take a couple of beers for breaks. The empties may be worth more than the gold you find.😊
Great times indeed fam. Great job getting that Au. Keep at it. Gold Squad Out 🤠
Thanks!!
You make very nice videos. Your knowledge on prospecting is very good. Might see you in Edmonton, some time, somewhere. I find gold all year round. Cheers!
Thank you John, I really appreciate your kind words.
I think its awesome how you get out there often and find some really nice gold yourself! Finding gold all year round in Alberta is no easy task, much respect!
Spent from 2011 to 2015 in there, and panned at night. You are aware that water flowing is from the tank farms uphill right?
Nice did you find some good gold? I am aware yes, lots of trash there also.
I have been exactly where you are a zillion times. I used to go to that creek to find petrified wood
@@Hockey-Art That’s awesome, there is some good petrified wood pieces there, larger then nsr pieces on average too!
Hey I'm in Edmonton as well I've tried Goldbar a couple times it's ok but you should go to the bend by the Dog park on the west end
Gold bar has many good little areas :)
I believe goldbar flows north to south. Do you mean a dog park on the nsr on the west end of the city?
Awesome buddy
Do you need a license/permit to pan in Alberta?
Only to run the highbanker, it’s 55$ for 5 years. Just panning does not require anything
@@d.andysprospecting you need permit to run a sluice, not just for highbanker
You gotta love the Canadian people...they almost always want to be in compliance with the law.
Alberta only has flour gold. Not worth your time trying to pan. You're better off driving to the Frazer River to pan actual placer gold
Gold is gold. If the only reason you pan is to try and get rich then your fooling yourself.
Some people pan for the adventure, time outside and not to strike it rich.
I’ve spent years prospecting Bc. The Fraser is not that good compared to other spots where you still won’t make a living panning. That being said gold bar is a great place to go and pan and time outside is never a waste of time.
@d.andysprospecting I agree! I go to NSR (between elk point and lea park, east side of alberta... not gonna pinpoint where exactly) and have done well there... best part is, you can switch things up and fish too.
Nice location and aptly named, historically rich in more ways than one. Thousands of ounces were retrieved in the vicinity more than a century ago so there must be a thousand more. Excellent detective skills! Keep it up!👍👍
Thanks! An awesome place to dip a pan!
All that for .50 cents…
@@livingeveryday777 That’s fine, still more then you got last time you went to the gym👍🏽
Prospecting isn’t for lazy people.
I’ve been there too 2 years ago and find some specs good place to prospect most specially for the beginners and easy to access the creek
Your right! Great for beginners
Time to move to B.C.
Nah, I just moved from there. I still have claims out there also that I will be working next year in the cherryville region and many other goto spots there if i need to find a nugget but life is not only about gold :) Alberta has better gold then most people realize.
Lets go out together! Im going out today
I'll have to check out Gold Bar this spring. I've panned at Prospector Point out by Devon and at the Terwilliger dog park in Edmonton and found flakes. I used to live near Gold Bar but never thought to pan there. I'm intrigued and want to check out a few other creeks in the city that flow into the river, as well. True, it's only flakes but still a lot of fun.
Go down stream around the corner. There is a stream outlet below the science park. Lots of minerals and fossils
Do I need a permit from city of edmonton if I do gold panning in terweligar dog park? Thanks
@athozathoz4795 If you're only using pans and hand shovel, you should be ok anywhere in the city as far as I understand.
Beautiful countryside.
Nice color in the pan ,and still decent weather 😊👍
GoldBar always surprises me!
What creek are you in?
How far from Edmonton?
In a park?
This was at goldbar creek, it’s right inside Edmonton near clover bar.
@@d.andysprospectingthanks 4 the reply.
You won't be able to go there cause you'll be out of your 15 minute area , Edmonton's turned into a sheethole !
what does that mean
I am in my 50's. Lived near Goldbar, met my wife there. You guys periodically destroy the habitat there, and so does the industrial area after dumping God knows what. Entire areas have routinely been dug up disturbing fish migration ever since I was a kid.
Fish migration? In the muddy North Saskatchewan river? LOL
@@MagruderSpoots maybe you should pick up a new hobby on TH-cam, like watching squirrels. Might better suit your mental capacity.
Do the gold bar sewage ponds drain into that creek?
@@der699 no clue now. As a kid to adult while growing up in the Capilano area, I routinely rode my bike in that area. I used to see many small fish swimming in those small streams feeding into the North Saskatchewan River. And sometimes everything is dead in the streams, even algae and grass were killed off, not even shrimp or insects. Even gold prospectors would dig up massive areas, diverting the natural path where the steams flow.
There were some refineries in that area, so it was suspect that they were dumping something very toxic from time to time into them.
I know that gold exploration sometimes utilize toxic substances to identify gold or to better process it locally.
@@der699 no. Into the river. And those ponds were gone a long time ago
