The Toyota rep’s honesty and humility as it pertains to the platform was refreshing. Tragic how the stealerships are ruining the Toyota brand, and to be forthcoming I’m not sure if the markups are going to make the juice worth the squeeze (I’ve already seen $10k-$15k + estimates), but this rep made me love the idea of the truck even more.

I have 3 close friends that are engineers, wings and beer always result in new and old projects they've worked on. I've been in sales for 28 years and somehow it works but I'm also a gearhead of sorts. One of my friends worked on the steering system for the newest Tacoma and Tundra, no matter how many beers he consumed, he wouldn't give any information, trust me I tried. Thank you Sheldon for keeping the Tacoma true to it's roots but also keeping it moving forward.

Great stuff. Please repeat the same tests once you've built out the Tacoma and it’s at full built out weight, fully fueled, full water etc. Will be useful to see what differences you perceive in performance on the course at higher weight and CoG.

There’s no moonroof on this one, but says it’s standard on the website. Can you get some clarity for us? We don’t want it. Takes up 1.7” of headroom and that’s a deal breaker for tall guys.

@mitchellholder I expect it is like the new Land Cruiser or the GX Overtrail. The Sunroof is standard but you can "delete it" on the options list.

Moved to Montana from California a few years ago. Best move I ever made. And property here is more affordable than CA, and you get way more beauty for the buck. It’s not even close. $200k in CA gets you a beat up parking lot in Compton with a view of a crack house in one side, and homeless encampments in the other. $200k in Montana gets you 20 acres with stunning views, no crime, and enough left over to build your own house (as in YOU build your own house…don’t be lazy!). Also, no zoning or building codes for that course. It’s YOUR land, so you get to do what YOU want on YOUR land without the criminal CA govt. in your face to deviously scheme how best they can steal your money from you.

Can’t wait for your build out! Would you please address house power options with the hybrid system. Can you utilize the hybrid battery or run dc/dc charging to house batteries off the hybrid motor (given no alternator)? Also please mention the load capacity listed on the door, and the corresponding weight of your build accessories. I have a deposit down on a Trailhunter and look forward to learn from your experiences in this series. Thank you.

    • @Clay_Croft
      @Clay_Croft 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

That’s probably true.however the aftermarket will take care of that. No manufacturer would allow something to stay on past the 30 minute mark without the vehicle turning on. Otherwise they would have everyday joes with dead batteries all the time.

I test drove a 2024 Tacoma SR5 4x4 today at Precision Toyota in Tucson. The low-end power is noticeabley better over my 2023 TRD Sport. The seating position is better, I am average height, so the seating position in my 23 is fine for me, It's not a big deal. The room behind the seat for the rear passenger is also a little more generous. Other than that, the 24 and 23 are more alike than different to me. I won't be running out to trade in my 23, but if I were buying a new Tacoma today, I would go for the 24, even though there are a few new 23s on the lot still. I know that seems like a no-brainer, but some people invariably will still prefer the older model.

The smart move is to wait and see how these new ones work out...I would never buy a new model the first year. The Gen 3....23 V6 is a great engine. Always hyped up for new models.

I would take what Mr Croft has to say about the 2024 Tacoma with a grain of salt since he does have a partnership with Toyota. I had the chance to buy a 2024 Tacoma TRD Off-road, but was not willing to pay the $57k! And I think the fuel savings is not there with the new 2.4 liter turbo because Toyota had not released estimated mpg when I had the chance to buy one last November. So I ended up buying a 2023 TRD Off-road at a very good price. Been nothing but smiles with my purchase. No regrets.

Once kitted out with all the gear they are adding?? Enough for a driver & his/her dog!! 😂😂😂. These full on off-road versions, regardless of manufacturer, pay the price big time with payloads. You either modify the suspension enough to handle being overloaded (which is a non-no, especially if there’s an accident and that weight is a factor) or just load it up regardless. Carly Suspensions have some suspensions that definitely handle payload AND full on off-road capabilities. They are expensive though!! Custom to your end use. Not sure if they have tackled the Tacomas yet, but they sure change the drivability and capabilities of the HD pickups out there!

Really awesome and im hype for the next gen. Im cautious about the turbos for sure but I love my 2nd gen 2.7. Be a while before I could afford one though lol. Lead engineer seems really cool and really gets it.

Does it come with a full size spare?
Saw images recently of the spare tire area of a gas TRD OR and there isn't much room up there between exhaust and tow hitch.
You'd think the TH would come equipped with full size spare but who knows?!

Great video, the only thing when is a sponsor video, it’s a bias feedback.
There was not a single criticism which it’s impossible as there has to be something to be improved.
This was just an infomercial for Toyota.

They have done multiple overlanding trips and have a History of using Toyota's. And they did say they were going to build them up for their use. Which is another thing they have a History of doing. I used to watch the video's of their trips.

watching the video, the rear bumper and tow hitch had sand falling off repeatedly. when there are rocks the rear end will take a beating.

Standard required height. Super bomber though. It can take the hits. The sides are nicely tucked up out of the way. Take a look during the trench crossing.

Surprised they didnt integrate the hitch into the thick bumper. That's a lot of departure angle they missed.

It's to bad Toyota won't produce the new Tacoma in the original configuration.

always been a Ford man but been thinking about a Toyota for retirement, smaller truck, longevity. will see how they price out and the gas mileage first. time will tell.

If I remember right it’s down to how they valves the multi terrain modulator. Whole new system with much more refined actuation and responsiveness.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of the Hybrid System on the Trailhunter vs the STD Tacoma on this test - would you notice any? You can plug in a blow dryer and curling iron for beard maintenance?
