It’s fun to watch a passage with just the two of you! Reminds me of when you were on the old boat.

3 weeks binge watching 138 episodes whilst commuting into and out of City of London on the train. You have both inspired me... took my first 'big' sail out into the North Sea from the shelter of the River Roach in Essex this weekend just gone. Only recently taken ownership of my Moody 27 'Tigger', and keen to get as many nautical miles under my belt by the time I can give up the daily grind! Thank you.

Holy crap... best episode yet... i work in the film industry and your story telling skills are going off the charts! The moment you explained how you couldn’t get any proper sleep was an amazing moment and perfectly placed and timed to the whole piece. I hope R’s neck is okay, and I hope E gets some sleep. But remember... there is not a person watching this that wouldn’t swap their lives for your dream. Enjoy the ups and downs. Nothing good or bad lasts for ever.

Elayna you got to do something about this sleep problem on long passages, that really showed here. Its gotta be stress of everything that went on on this trip, piece of mind is a wonderful thing, strive for it, whatever it takes. The episode was top notch sailing clips and funny R&E schtuff tho, bravo on another great Episode. Cheers Steve.

Amazing video of you two sharing the last miles of the passage. As on all long passages, stress adding up at the end sometimes breaks you. Specially when you are short handed as you were. Add Riley’s accident to the mix, and I can say not many sailors would withstand it as well as you, Elayna. I have seen tougher guys cracking with less.
I hope everything is fine now, but if you need a hand to move the boat, I am ready! 😉
Last, I agree with several comments. You are at your best when you two are alone.
    Take care!

Yay! So glad to see you guys making it through. I made this passage from the Canaries to Grenada when I was 12 with my family on a boat built in St Kitts. Our Skyjack was a 45 ft Spronk Catamaran built by Phillip Walwyn. When you talk about how smooth the passage is in La Vagabonde, it takes me right back there. Dodging squalls, taking it all in. Thank you so much for the effort you've made to document this passage despite the physical issues. Hope it all turns out well.

Great video - thank you. Elayna - the hair cut looks great on you. Short and sassy. With regards to sleeping: more exercise, maybe a helper (nyquil or benedryl), but I also found that a hammock was a great way to sleep in blue waters. It mitigates a lot of the bumps and slows the thrusts down to gentle rocking. Don't know if you have any place that you can hang it, but it might be an option worth exploring. Riley - loved the perspective on the wine spill ("look how much I saved"). lol. :)

Super storytelling. Highlights: filling in the picture by both Elayna and Riley; honest reporting of how the crossing has been; beautiful last sunset; wine spilling incident and great solution (even though Riley doesn’t like pink); details of the said; silliness in the midst of it all. Be well.

For years, Ive been working on writing my first book. Only to keep getting sidetracked by life. Last year my computer was stolen and I lost everything and had to start over, luckily I had quite a few notes here and there to piece it back together. Life hit again and set me on a new course, I grew up on the water and my book is about sailing. So, I looked for pages on sailing and saw your post. I felt inspired, so I bought a 44.7 foot Catalina and will proceed to get her ready. Im 25 in September and that is my goal to have her in open water before then. Cheers, hope to see you out there

OMG Elayna, need I say more...Your lone distance stare on 0.37 is truly angelic. The white faint seat behind you looks like your left wing. Love this image of you. A little R&R in the Caribbean should freshen you guys up a bit. Please let us know when you guys will be in Florida. This is one of my favorite episodes so far. Thanks guys.

Yes, Elayna, I think that the condition of Riley's back has put you under greater pressure and stress than you thought and you've stepped up to the mark to help out further than you normally do. Consequently you're worrying alot, hence no sleep. Take of yourselves, land is not far away with help. God bless and keep being strong, like you nearly always are. Paul london

Elayna, i would recommend trying to get hold of zopiclone or something similar. I use to have major problems sleeping then i started to take zopiclone one or two nights a week just to break the cycle of sleepless nights and to stop me from bottoming out. It will also help to dispel the anxiety of worrying about when you will be able to get some sleep. I rarely take it now, just knowing i have it in my back pocket if i need it is enough.

I've read lots of good advice about the sleep problems but trust me you learn to adjust. I have had this problem for years and years and it got really really bad at one point I was awake for 4 days straight and went to hospital. Tried lots of medications but it just comes down to keeping your sleep patterns the same and I also learned I had to stop stressing about it when it acts up. When it does now I don't fight it. I just get up and roll with it (I find worrying about it makes it worse) and wait until I do get sleepy and never sleep in when it happens. Just be sure to try again at the same time the next day. Rinse and repeat until you get back into your normal sleep pattern again. 😀

Riles, FYI that new line needs to be tight. The trick is let lots of line out into the water with nothing on the end at all, trust me. The drag of the water will tighten the line so when u hook up with something decent size the line on top doesn't squeeze it's way down thru the loose line bind up and break off. I've had it happen, it sucks when u have a nice fish on. 500yds should be fine to tighten up.

You guys are truly amazing. I recently discovered your videos and I love them! You inspire me to not only want to literally spend more time on the ocean (because it is breathtaking and something I have always felt so connected to) but also to live my life in a much more fluid, relaxed, adaptable way. The way you guys handle rough situations and take in the little moments is beautiful and difficult to do considering life often gets heavy. I wish you both happy, safe sailing on your current journey toward land (it seems like it hasn't been easy...)and I just wanted to let you know that your videos have had an impact on me. You don't often ecounter people that understand how to live life the way you two do. All the best!

I’m no doctor but been a subscriber since just before 2000 people so I really care what happens to both of you very much. It seems reasonable that it’s hard or impossible to sleep when so many things can go wrong at a moments notice with dire consequences on a crossing. Always Be wary of anybody that prescribes drugs for anything as you have to keep your wits. Maybe just a little pot would relax you enough to sleep yet not so bad just Incase you need to leap.

You have both been tested in ways that could not have been anticipated on this crossing which have kept us rivited on your progress. It feels great to know you are arriving. Valuable lessons come from these challenges that ultimately make you even more equipped as the great sailors you are. Vaga II has certainly done her part in amazing fashion to get Riley to the help awaiting him and Elayna the rest needed after being stretched beyond her limits to see it through all the challenges she has faced. 'Certainly hoping Riley's exam has some good news. Highest Blessings

Hey, about the sleep, I think I can help. I currently work on a medium size ship which means that it still rocks and slams a bit during the night. What really helps me is zinc, as it lowers the cortisol which is the stress hormone which in turn is the reason you get wide awake from the slams. SO a little bit of zinc before bed makes the slamming and rocking feel way more OK than otherwise. You just don't get that big reaction. Could be worth trying out :) Wish you all the best. /Filip from Sweden

Great video yet again!! Just the two of you and the boat and the open ocean is so cool. The added pressure on you Elayna to always be ready to take the lead during this time is most likely the reason for you not sleeping and the the stress of the unknown get to you. Its natural and what being an adult is all about. As a kid did you ever try to sneak in the house late at night when you were supposed to be home?? When I left my parents house as a young man to be on my own, Ive never slept again like I did when I was home and my parents were guarding over me. Now I sleep in my own house with one eye open and always listening just like my parents did for sure. BTW, I could never sneak in the house without my parents knowing. You took the guardian role this time and its tough. Riley is a trouper and he is tough. I just feel like everything will be ok. Warm wishes!

Take it easy vs fast. Comfort vs speed = less problems and a more relaxing voyage. Next time take 4 to 6 people (6 is best for 2 person shifts) = plenty of sleep and more time to enjoy the adventure (and company too). Only 2 people lacking sleep and wounded is not what you want if/when something goes wrong (at night in 25 ft seas etc)... WE LOVE YOU TWO so be safe and survive the adventure :-) o---)

Oh I was wondering of the outremer had enough bridgedeck clearance. It looked like too little space between bottom of the bridgedeck and the water. This is probably only an issue with enough wind and waves but still kind of surprising.

I love braiding sweetgrass! Robin kimmerer is an amazing author and an incredible woman. She's come to my college in Michigan to give a talk. So awesome to hear that her book is loved internationally even though it's centered around Native American beliefs! ❤️

“Not that the ocean needs hair”...bwahahaha! You are so adorable, Elayna. I wonder if the reason you can’t sleep is due to worry about Riley? The only time I can’t sleep is if I am worried about something and replaying all possibilities in my mind. Or is it like that all the time? When you hit land, go get an hour long massage. Prayers for you both.

Very cool that you guys are arriving in Antigua. I live in palm beach county, Florida, and have customers on most of the islands in the Caribbean, some main ones being in Antigua!

We were in Key West this past week and every time I saw a nice cat out on the water I hoped it was y'all....but knew it wasn't. Another great and honest video....thank you for being real. Godspeed to you.....
