  • India's Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri told CNBC's Hadley Gamble his country will carefully assess whether to support a G-7 proposal to impose a cap on the price of Russian oil. “There are many conversations going on due to a large number of factors,” Puri said at Gastech 2022 in Milan, Italy.

Which US cannot and it was a telephonic conversation initiated by Iran Foreign minister, they didn't meet. The conversation was about the bilateral and JCPOA along with Iran nuclear talk was also discussed.

    I understand where the reporter is coming from, but its not the same as asking us Europeans to sacrifice some of our earnings for higher prices of oil (and higher prices of everything else actually) as it is to ask Indians to make the same sacrifice since that sacrifice in Europe has a lessser impact on our lives than it would have on Indians. So in that sense I agree with the Minister. The reporter tried to pose an ethic question without realizing that its more unethical for him to throw 1.4 Bil people under the bus who are economically worse off than Europeans. He should have asked her for instance this: would Americans (and Europeans) stop buying cheap Chinese goods if China were to attack India? Would have been funny to see her answer that question.

Any increase in gas price has direct impact on our economy.       He was a diplomat for 39 years and he passed the most difficult exam in the world to become that . More than 2 million people apply for that post today only 15 among them get selected every year. We have large pool of 180+ IQs working as diplomats and now our current govt is pull those retired diplomats and making them cabinet minister.

    The west block needs to understand that India is not buying for privileged citizens to run their six cylinder SUVs. Majority of Indians use 90-150 cc motorcycles and that's everything for them. It generates business, is the only mode of transport for them. India must safeguard these people's interests because they are already standing near the cliff!

    Indian elected official moral obligation is to first protect Indian people, not siding with Empires or helping Empire building of the west. If half of the Indian people cant lit their kitchen stoves, cant go to work on their two wheelers, transportation cant run vehicles, people in India, especially poor will die.       Well to be entirely fair, it is the same story in India. Majority of Indians blame the UK & the US primarily, but all NATO countries for Russia's invasion and occupation of Ukraine. Is that entirely fair? I watch Indian media daily, as well as read social media comments. The general consensus is that the West is bad; whilst Russia is their big brother, who is the underdog who was backed into a corner by the bigger dogs.

I can easily suggest the further you live from Central Europe, and the Baltics, the greater your capacity for sympathy to Russia. West Asians, East Asians, Africans, South Americans may not fully "understand" the true nature of Russians if they have not existed under Soviet rule. If you had your relatives over time raped, killed, and conscripted into Russian army, you would most certainly feel differently about them.     The quintessential diplomat at his best. Verbal flourish, mixing facts dramatically with context , talking about the bigger picture, avoiding technical corners and market related issues , dominating the conversation without letting the anchor corner him on any specific issue and asserting his country's firm stand without flinching. This complicated subject of energy politics could get any one into a corner but Mr. Singh set the tone & it turned out to be not an interview but a monolog. PM Modi has chosen the right man for the Energy job. The EAM and Petroleum Minister are both diplomats who understand western snobbery and refuse to give in to their narrative. Class act.

      @@PoliticalMatter you forget the biggest one, Saudi Arabia....many of these European countries and the US and Canada buy oil from Saudi Arabia inspite of them invading Yemen and the war is still ongoing but we don't hear that from a single major news outlet.     Truly funny how this reporter from USA is trying to get an Indian politician to rationalize America supporting Ukraine. Yes Russia is wrong. But at the end of the day Mr Puri has to choose between the lively hood of his fellow Indians whom voted for Mr Puri or the livelihood of the Ukrainian people. The choice is clear.

      Well whenever India tries to get closure to Ukraine the Govt. Of Ukraine do something against India for example recently UKRAINIAN DEFENCE MIN. OFFICIALLY TWEETER HANDLE'S post which was Hurting sentiments of Hindus because the post was depicting Hindu Godess cartoon, India is sending Aid for Ukraine but Ukraine everytime speaks against India so it's better to ignore them. And focus on our own people
