I had this pedal for over a year before I realized it's meant to work with either an already cranked amp, or with an overdrive pedal if your amp is clean like mine. It just doesn't sound good with a clean amp. I never use the fuzz face without my tubescreamer on, and it really sounds like Hendrix
I bought this pedal a couple of months back and am really really happy with it. I've been able to get the screaming fuzz-tones Dave Gilmour had on Dark Side of the Moon.
wow, iv been looking at alot of pedals tonight trying to extend my tone, and almost every quality review iv seen has come from you guys, keep up the good work
I scored one of these pedals yesterday for half price. It is a killer pedal, the saying "sometimes less is more" definitely applies to this pedal. With just a volume knob and a fuzz knob you can create some awesome sounds.
Both pedals are great! But no video can do this pedal justice. When I played one for the first (and still only) time at a music store through a fender tube amp, I got all like butterflies in my stomach! It sounded so good! You gotta try one out first before you blow it off, for realz
The Univibe is Robin Trower's favorite effect. When I saw him live he was using (liek he now does) all Fulltone effects, and their recreation of the univibe, the deja-vibe, which i think is better =)
When you kicked in the fuzz there was that familiar, unmistakable low end rumble that hoped to get out of my Trimode (yuck!) and not been able to. Some really nice sounds. And don't give me a lecture about low v, hi v plate supply, the difference between fuzz, overdrive and distortion or any of that other stuff. I've played on and worked with tubes for > 60 years. I just really liked the sound. That's the beauty of Hendrixian, and for me Terry Kath lore: it's all about the technique, married to that beautiful sound.
True bypass is a switching method for the pedal that when the effect is off the signal goes from the input jack through a piece of wire to the switch and then from the switch straight to the output jack. It does not enter the effects circuit which can cause a tone sucking problems.
the Hendrix one uses Silicon Transistors, which have a harsher edge. it gives you a good fuzz tone, but it's really good for grunge stuff. it's based on the FF Jimi used closer to the end of his career, like on the Isle of Wight or during his Band of Gypsys. the regular one uses Germanium Transistors. it has a bit of a warmer edge.
Dunlop is very cool! The guitar playing in this vid really does it justice. This pedal does a great job for getting those old time Hendrix tones for those Hendrix cats out there. I pair mine with a good octavia octave up pedal. Tried the Roger Mayer octavia but was disappointed. The 'Fillmore Thunder' by Elite Tone is awesome the octave notes ring out clear undistorted. It rocks a groovy BC108 Fuzz in the same box. Mine was $177 I think. Well worth it!
@ImUnd3cid3d I'm surprised this comment got so many thumbs ups. Silicone is what implants are made of. Silicon is a highly conducting metal used in many electronics.
Yeah, back in '69 my Dallas Arbiter FUZZ FACE was so creamy sounding that I couldn't get anywhere near the crunch I'm hearing now. This Jimi Hendrix/-Dunlop model smokes!
Just picked this pedal up and I'm starting to like it. I play it through a Marshall JVM410H and 1960A cabinet. I really don't like it all that much with the clean channel, but on the crunch channel or clean (Red), it really sounds great. Amp needs to be on an overdrive channel to get the most out of this pedal. Added a DC jack for compatibility with my pedal board. Nice pedal!
I'm not a fan a fuzzy guitar, I never really like it but I have been working on a few songs that would sound good with a fuzz sound so I'm getting a little in to it, good pedal!
@DiederikYBaan Haha its so true I just looked at my rig and i could see every guitarist that i loved influencing my tone! I totally agree theres no harm in buying signature stuff!
this one uses BC-108 transistor which makes the pedal more gainy and trebly. the red one uses Germanium transistor which is smoother sounding and cleans up more cleaner. Gilmour used BC-108 one (not this particular model) at live at Pompei so i got this one ;]
@TeamXTREMEPANTERA If you want a sound somewhere between it being off and dimed, as well as the sound on full blast, without having to kneel down and twiddle the knob. It's a very convenient feature, makes the fuzz 100x more versatile.
@hentrow The reason I'd buy a signature pedal and this one in particular isnt because i dont want to find 'my own tone' but jimi is who inspired me to pick up the guitar in the first place. I dare you to find one guitar player who started playing because they didnt want to be like someone else, or reproduce the sounds they adore. And ultimatley, no one could match jimi anyway, nor would anyone in the world use it exactly the same way as anyone else. everyone has their own tone already. Dig?
Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz. I had one and wish I never sold it. It's true bypass and you can get some really good true fuzz tones. 60's fuzz tones that is.
until i saw this video i had never realized it was called fuzz FACE because it indeed looks like a face! sorry, a silly comment i thought i should make :p
@ohjames88 As a matter of fact, I never wanted to sound like someone else. I started playing electric guitar because I saw the chance to find my own unique voice on this instrument, without reproducing somebody's tone. So, just for the record, I'm one of those people you think don't exist.
@ProGuitarShopDemos i just bought a pedalboard and it came with a 9v battery clip that plugs into the power supply on the board so it's great cuz i'm planning on buying this!
From 2.02 sound like some stuff from Who´s next, like bargain, baba o´reiley, wont get fooled again. Then at 2.15 he gets into Ramblin Rose, MC-5. He does so on the Double Muff demo as well.
@TheMushroomDog not to get technical, but batteries produce DC voltage, just like an electrical outlet, only at a much lower voltage, so ya DC voltage.
@Jackamole The problem may be that your Tele is not hot enough to push the effect to full value..I own the same pedal and with a Strat it sounds exactly like the one in the video...But they are noisy no doubt about it but this is true with just about all high gain Fuzz pedals...Have you used other Fuzz pedals with your Tele ?
The reason I'd buy a signature pedal and this one in particular isnt because i dont want to find 'my own tone' but jimi is who inspired me to pick up the guitar in the first place. Despite being mass produced by a huge company, this pedal is right up there with its boutique counterparts.

This is a really good point. Even Eric Johnson switches from his Twin Reverb to his Marshalls when using his FF.
PGS

the red one is the classic fuzz face from dunlop, the blue one is jimi hendrix fuzz face...thumbs up so everybody can see
I love this pedal, I use it for heavy sludge metal
loved jimi's utilization of the fuzz face, but also his crybaby, axis fuzz, univibe and octavia
i love this video. ill be listening to hendrix until i die.

love the guitar tone at the very beginning! (the pro guitar intro) sounds killer!
This pedal kick some asses. My friend have one and it gives a killer tone. Specially with single coils
Why do you need LED?! Can't you hear when you have it turned on? :D
Love how it cleans up, I used to have big muff pi, and it didn't want to clean up so nice with volume knob rolling.
Being a vintage snob but with integrity, I will admit that this sounded very good.
Both pedals are great! But no video can do this pedal justice. When I played one for the first (and still only) time at a music store through a fender tube amp, I got all like butterflies in my stomach! It sounded so good! You gotta try one out first before you blow it off, for realz
this pedal is so sweet...
a key to fuzz pedal salvation!
very nice sound of a fuzz effect
The Univibe is Robin Trower's favorite effect. When I saw him live he was using (liek he now does) all Fulltone effects, and their recreation of the univibe, the deja-vibe, which i think is better =)
I never lost track of where it was because andy never stops pointing at it!
thats one great sounding landmine!
DAT SMILE
4:08 fucking AMAZING

Things haven't gotten much better in 40 years. This thing sounds great.
thanks for pointing at the pedal i kept loosing track of where it was
andy you are a legend

I have a Jim Dunlop JH-2. It has Jimi Hendrix's name on the front, and selected discography on the back. I got it in a pawn shop in about 1989.
@DiederikYBaan thats a great reminder man. Ive been too worried about trying not to sound like my favorite bands lately
the Hendrix one uses Silicon Transistors, which have a harsher edge. it gives you a good fuzz tone, but it's really good for grunge stuff. it's based on the FF Jimi used closer to the end of his career, like on the Isle of Wight or during his Band of Gypsys.

he used a Dallas Arbiter one and Axis Fuzz which is a modification of the Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face made by Roger Mayer
Foxey Lady was a germanium Fuzz Face. He only used it for the first album. Switched to silicon right after.
Thanks for pointing at it so much. I almost lost sight of it.
I've tried out red Dunlup fuzzfaces in the past. This one actually sounds good.
This might be too obvious but the input and output on fuzz faces are switched. Are you plugged in backwards?
@ImUnd3cid3d
I'm surprised this comment got so many thumbs ups. Silicone is what implants are made of. Silicon is a highly conducting metal used in many electronics.
I totally want this
sounds alot better on thier site then on youtube
I have to get this. This is awesome. Great demo.
Yeah, back in '69 my Dallas Arbiter FUZZ FACE was so creamy sounding that I couldn't get anywhere near the crunch I'm hearing now.

Spanish Castle Magic!!! This is amazing.

That's a wild thing.
@ProGuitarShopDemos well there is a visual sound adaptor to the battery cable that you can plug into the wall
this is a great fuzz,
very cool!! exactry, this pedal is the best
it's very easy to DIY. it has a very simple PCB layout.
Well, it takes more than a pedal to get a tone. The guitar, pups, amp, and especially the player's touch.
Nice demo!
fuzzface. I sold mine a while ago and now i'm puttin' my little big muff on sale
I agree. Would love to hear an A/B test too...
i don't think I've seen a single fuzz demo without a hendrix song in it haha
it sounds great and looks sick!!!!
this one uses BC-108 transistor which makes the pedal more gainy and trebly.

Im gonna get this soon its totly Awesome

thanks man
@ducah85 and the origional song is rolling stone by muddy waters hendrix just funked it up
This is the fuzz face jimi hendrix used..just added more gain
I can here Jimi singing Wild Thing already
Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz. I had one and wish I never sold it. It's true bypass and you can get some really good true fuzz tones. 60's fuzz tones that is.
until i saw this video i had never realized it was called fuzz FACE because it indeed looks like a face! sorry, a silly comment i thought i should make :p
i want this sooooooo bad
The big muff also has a sustain circuit so its a different sound all together
nice, some great tones.
I've tried this in real life, its not overly saturated, its built like a tank, and most importantly it looks like a face xD
Eric Johnson make this pedal sound like heaven! I just have to have it!;D
Wild thing ! You make my heart sing !
@ohjames88 As a matter of fact, I never wanted to sound like someone else. I started playing electric guitar because I saw the chance to find my own unique voice on this instrument, without reproducing somebody's tone. So, just for the record, I'm one of those people you think don't exist.
Oh shit man, here comes the fuzz!
wow!! great job
i have one of these and its great
DAMM !! the same song in all demos !!
wow! i need this!
Good and instructive vid, dude !! thx
@ProGuitarShopDemos i just bought a pedalboard and it came with a 9v battery clip that plugs into the power supply on the board so it's great cuz i'm planning on buying this!
It sounds beutiful!
Yeah like I can get a great fuzz out of my stock BD-2 if I set it up right, and it's an overdrive. I should probably post a video of it
@riktok this is a bc108 silicon fuzz
From 2.02 sound like some stuff from Who´s next, like bargain, baba o´reiley, wont get fooled again. Then at 2.15 he gets into Ramblin Rose, MC-5. He does so on the Double Muff demo as well.

a lil' bit of Spanish Castle Magic!
@TheMushroomDog not to get technical, but batteries produce DC voltage, just like an electrical outlet, only at a much lower voltage, so ya DC voltage.
Roger Mayer was Jimi Hendrix's effects man, he tweaked the pedals depending on what jimi wanted or according to how he described the sound.

Mmmm...love me some spanish castle magic.
ZVex Fuzz Factory is the best fuzz pedal next to this one in my opinion. you can get sooo many tones from the fuzz factory
well, he did build some of jimis original fuzzes, as well as his octavio, so i would guess that they could do jimi very well.
well this is a fuzz pedal your looking for a distortion/Overdrive pedal the Fulltone OCD is a great pedal check it out this website also sells it

Great peddle sounds amazing on my amp.
