Great Western Railway, Elizabeth Line and HX Trains at London Paddington on October 14th 2022

3rd time filmed at London Paddington Station on the Great Western Main Line although my 1st visit for over 3 years since May 18th 2019
Featuring services from Great Western Railway, Elizabeth Line in their last weeks before they move below ground, Heathrow Express Trains plus some action from London Underground's Circle and Hammersmith & City Lines as well.
London Paddington the terminus of the original Great Western Main Line and original GWR was opened on June 4th 1838 located to the West side of Bishops Road
The present mainline station built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel dates from it be re-sited on May 29th 1854.
The Mainline terminus has 15 Platforms in total although missing Platform 13 which was taken out of use in December 2017 to enable Platform 12 to be extended to 8 cars which originally was only able to be long enough for a pair of 3 car Turbos.
Services Today served by Great Western Railway, Elizabeth Line and Heathrow Express as well as London Underground Circle and Hammersmith & City Lines
Platforms 6 and 7 served only for Heathrow Express began running in May 1997 after Electrification between London Paddington and Hayes & Harlington to Heathrow Airport to a temporary station called Heathrow Airport Junction which only lasted for almost 13 months until June 3rd 1998 when the service was opened to Heathrow Central and Heathrow Terminal 4 respectively.
On March 27th 2008 services were extended to Heathrow Terminal 5 however since December 2020 services nowadays provided by Class 387s which replaced the Class 332s
To enable the Class 387s to run to Heathrow they had to be modified compared to GWR Class 387s with the works originally being carried out at Ilford E.M.U.D.
Elizabeth Line was first formed as TFL Rail back in May 2015 although taking over the metro Shenfield services to and from London Liverpool Street however it wasn't until May 2018 when TFL Rail began operating out of London Paddington which also took over the former Heathrow Connect services to Heathrow Terminal 4.
It wasn't until December 2019 when TFL Rail began running to Reading and then Heathrow in July 2020 during the time of the Coronavirus pandemic.
It was rebranded as the Elizabeth Line in May 2022 just before the opening of the long delayed Central section between Paddington and Abbey Wood which opened on May 24th 2022
The only station that wasn't opened was Bond Street which at the time of filming was nearly completion however eventually it would open 10 days after filming on October 24th.
As for the Elizabeth Line itself it was in it's last weeks running into the mainline station of London Paddington however from November 6th according to TFL move to below to enable direct through running for services from Reading and Heathrow and Abbey Wood which on the same day Shenfield trains via Stratford will run underground at Pudding Milll Lane Portal.
However the full through services won't happen until Mid May 2023 when the long delayed Crossrail Project should be finally completed.
Great Western Railway rebranded in September 2016 from First Great Western provide stopping services used by Class 387s to Didcot Parkway, Newbury and since May 2021 beyond to Swindon, Bristol Parkway and Cardiff Central
The main Intercity services are nowadays provided by Class 800 and Class 802 IETs which entered service in October 2017 and August 2018 respectively before replacing the iconic HSTs on May 18th 2019.
The station itself was restored in stages with Span 4 in 2010 with the rest being completed by 2016 with all works carried out by Network Rail.
Whilst eras have come and gone over the decades however the originality of Brunel still even to this day remains totally intact
