Oh what a drop of knowledge here! Also wanted to point out that the LUT for SLOG2 has waaaaay more cinematic look than the Sony utility LUT. WAY MORE. We just swapped these luts on our nearly finished client project and it literally made it from "It's ok" to "woah it's really nice looking!". Thank you guys!

Just tried this method today i must admit must S-Log2 footage on my a6500 has alway been rubbish followed your steps droppped your lut on lowered the exposure a smidge small amout of contrast and its the best looking S-Log2 footage ive had ever!!! Cheers guys :D

I can see noise in your background. I found that taking the mid-tones all the way down and raising shadows fixes all noise! I have a video using this method and the results are impressive! Great video non the less.
This video made my day. I’ve had my a6400 since August and I haven’t had the best luck with my videos and s-log 2. Frustrated with old a6400 videos on TH-cam, and overwhelmed with Gerald Undone videos & DSLRVideo Shooters Sony Color video it’s been a learning experience nonetheless. I can’t wait to pick up the LUT and try this new workflow. I’m pretty sure I’m not over exposing properly and need to tweak a few settings in camera. Thanks for keeping the a6400 still relevant. Aw glad to hear that! Hope this one is helpful and the LUT helps your workflow! The a6400 is a great camera, just takes a bit of shooting and experimenting to get a feel for what gives the best results. The color noise fix LUT with the saturation adjustment made a massive difference but we’ve also been using the original one as well with good results minus the color noise. 😊

Super useful video, thanks! The one I’ve been waiting (and hoping for!). I’m still recording in the default profile on my A7riii because so far I’ve found s-log, HLG, etc... just a bit too tricky. Looking forward to trying out your LUTs. Can I ask a question? The majority of my videos are shot out in my garden so there are A LOT of greens and green tones. Do you find these tricky to work with in your workflow, and would you have any tips for working to produce pleasant green tones in plants etc...? Thanks guys! 🙏 😊
I agree, Slog2 with ITU 709 is so much better than messing with Saturation and S-Gamut (with its orange reds and green yellows) you can use DaVinci Resolve to apply a Slog2 1D input LUT (gamma only) to some footage then adjust the top & bottom of the curve to bring the levels back into range and then export that as a LUT to use in premiere.
A easier way to make a Slog2 gamma only transform LUT is using LUTCalc website app (just google it) select the 1D option on the right then on the left: camera: Sony Generic Stop Correction: -2 Rec Gamma: Sony S-Log2 Out Gamma: Sony Rec709 (800%) Then give it name on the left in "LUT Title" and hit "Generate LUT". the -2 stop correction is assuming you ETTR

I was wondering if do I need to apply any loot or conversion to 709 when shoothing with slog 2 +ITU 709, but it seems that I only have to convert the gamma thing since the color is already rec 709, right? @@DanielFortiz I've since come to the conclusion that there is no point in filming in S-Log with any of the 8bit Sony DSLRs as the 8bit codec is just not good enough, I now shoot (a6400) using Cine1 - Exposes up to 109% (good for recovering highlights) but set zebra for skin at range 60% +/- 4 (to avoid skin tone loss in the compressed part of the cine1 gamma curve) & Pro Color, But ITU709 is also fine as it comes down to what color look you prefer and i found Pro color easier to match to a FS7 which also has pro color. To grade all you need to do is adjust the shadows and highlights with levels add a gentle S curve and maybe a bit of saturation (no LUTs required)

Im curious, why S-log instead of something like HLG? I’m a proud owner of a a6400, Im not really pro on how stuff works but hlg offers nice dynamic range for a fraction of the pain when it comes to post production, what am I missing?
We have a post work flow that we have figured out and have developed a LUT that works flawlessly and painlessly. Slog offers better dynamic range than HLG, @geraldundone I think covered it in his slog video.
Hi! I have now downloaded your "Color Noise fix LUT" and you say at 11:10 that you need one adjustment layer to add the LUT to, and a different ADJ Layer above that for grading/stylizing. Do you mean that this second adj layer applies to all your clips in the timeline, or just a specific clip? So then you need two separate adj layers for each clip? All the best, Erlend

instead of using more saturation just use: color mode -> ITU 709. imo this works much better than increasing saturation for the 8bit codec

Hi! I have now downloaded your "Color Noise fix LUT" and you say at 11:10 that you need one adjustment layer to add the LUT to, and a different ADJ Layer above that for grading/stylizing. Do you mean that this second adj layer applies to all your clips in the timeline, or just a specific clip? So then you need two separate adj layers for each clip?

Thanks for the awesome video! Don't you have a 30 minute limit on Sony camera or do you use hdmi recorder to avoid it? It really single thing that bothers me because all my videos are quite long.
No 30 minute record limit on the A6400, A7R4 or the A7S3 but I’m not sure at what model they changed that. The A7S2 had a 30 min record limit.
