    Thank you for your explanation. I'm a photographer and I've NEVER really bothered with video until I decided to start a youtube channel to show some of my work and tips. I honestly didn't find the "SLOG2" setting until i watched a video just prior to yours on WHERE the setting was which was hidden inside the picture profile! So I set up the "PP#'s" for different uses and I guess you can say I have an SLOG profile for my photography that's completely changed my total images like 1000% more bad ass thanks to you lol.

    Great explanation and content Erwin. For some reason, most folks explain exposing for slog in the most confusing way to the point I don't think they know what they're talking about. Like they say, if you cant explain something simply, you dont understand it well enough. Great job and hope to see more valuable content from you. Thanks !

    Some good explanations here. But not sure why you think 70 IRE is proper exposure for S-log on skintones. When you do your finishing the skintone looks fine because IMO you are shooting 1.5 stops over when the skin is at 70 IRE - not sure if people watching are getting that. Rec709 skin highlights are fine at 70 IR but you might find that 55 IRE in bright light ( outside ) will give better results. I would be that your finished grade the majority of the skin would be close to that.

    • @erwinmarionneaux
      @erwinmarionneaux  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I tried to explain that, in the bright sunlight example. Sometimes you have to compromise the skin tones a bit but 60-70 ire is the sweet spot for skin. When you do the correction and grade then your skin will probably be around 55 ire at that point but the log footage itself should be around 60-70. That’s why I used examples of direct sunlight and backlight situations to show that
