Ricky would you ever consider doing a video about your philosophy for starting a new digitakt project how you fill up the sample bank? I feel like that could be a super interesting video for a lot of Digitakt users
Hey Ricky - could you exp, again your system for why you designate certain sequences to specific pattern slots? (At the start of the video, when you mention it)
The "irrelevant" parts you mentioned are actually super interesting to me. The fact that you keep 4 patterns per song and keep the 3/4 as a breakdown is the kind of organizational / workflow stuff that NOBODY talks about! Great video. (Also TIL you can copy/paste a page! WTF)
any time I hear Ricky say those words, I pay close attention :) no irrelevant info, just like there are no 'stupid questions'. knowledge is powr! peace
Ricky, you are the Bob Ross of music production with elektron devices! Just had my enlightenment moment when you explained the LFO settings. Super valuable info and one of your best videos by far. Thanks for that, man!
Whooaaaa I didn’t realize you could preview what individual trigs sound like in record mode if you hold the trig and press “yes” until I saw you do it in this vid
I'm doing that every Sunday otherwise I'll keep creating new patterns and finish nothing lol on the breakdown track I'll also add a lot of "control all" weird pan lfo-filter stuff that lfo-phase too, especially on kick (lfo dest. tune) triggered every step is degen!
many many thanks for all the great hands on explanations, these are very helpful! But dear dear Ricky: Can you make Videos again about the MPC4000 for a little 'advanced' user? Things like in- depth routing in the effects section, q-link sequence and hidden features like moving the start and endpoint of samples with the fader? This would be so good!
This content came at the perfect time. Can you expand more on your methodology for organizing patterns and sections for a live set. I think there is a lot of interest around that topic.
bruhhhhh this is sooo clever, thank you man. gettin back into writing heavy for my project and this is awesome. I do a lot of half time music vocal led and music centered around my five string. This is going to be a lot of fun on the beat/production side of my work. lfg
I loved the digitakt’s workflow way more than my octatrack’s workflow. I even think the output of the digi is cleaner and fuller sounding than the octa’s. but I just could not go back to working with mono samples only. Stereo makes such a big and positive difference in sound quality. Don’t know how you live with it but your songs sound cool
There is a workaround on the DT, you separate a stereo file into two mono files on a computer, then play them on the DT panned hard left and right, starting on the same step of course!
It doesn't seem to worry me much. I get more done and have more fun with the Digitakt than Ableton or other grooveboxes. I seem to have the same way of thinking as the designers, I find it really intuitive, simple and fun. But everyone's different, I can see how some might find it frustrating!
@@roninthegoat2810 Akai MPC, or a DAW and a laptop do it all. After all I've used Ableton a lot, and still use it to add tracks to the Digitakt. I had thought of the MPC as it is all-singing-and-dancing, but I chose the Digitakt as I like the simplicity/old school style of working. I don't really expect to do full tracks on it, it would be great in an ideal world, but no tool by any manufacturer is totally complete or without limitations and flaws.
Nice! Neat ideas with the LFO. Gunna try picking a slower rate onto the B section, then ramp it up to faster rate that sounds cool to build pace back into the main beat.
I love how helpful and informative your videos always are. I have never been able to fully understand the way the lfo works, and you just totally cleared that up for me. Please do the compressor next! I made a track today that sounds dope (even your lingo is rubbing off on me) on my studio headphones and the little phone speaker, but when I played it on my home stereo, the kick just pushes everything away. Gutted!
I noticed there are artifacts in your video - even watching this at 1080p, this shouldn't be an issue with my 250Mbit/s connection, so you might want to look into your RENDERING SETTINGS: I got artifacts when using "Web-Low" settings in my editing software which does a single pass with 3000 Kbit/s data rate. When using 4K camera input, I now switched to "Multi Pass x264" with 15000 Kbit/s - which TH-cam will crunch down anyway but will result in a video pretty close to what you see on your desktop.
would be cool if elektron added some kind of pattern transition functionality.. like overtime you switch a pattern, maybe buy hitting it twice, the pattern would crossfade into each other.
It’s nice to have your actual tipvideos back. This last bit of time with you basically doing ads was lame. I get we all gotta pay rent and y’all make gear videos so you can write it off. But damn.
I didn't really notice until I read your comment and rewatched it. I wonder if it's TH-cam's compression algorithm that is cause lost pixels a sort of data mosh effect / pixel sorting. I'm sure on his end the video was clean when he uploaded it.

Yeah, I’d really appreciate a deeper dive on how he organises sections/patterns? This is actually SUPER interesting to me.

Love these compositional videos where you go through your process.
The ‘LFO re-sync on step 1’ knowledge is GOLD 🙏🏻
yeah I wouldn't have thought of locking that parameter, nice idea :)
Absolutely key knowledge. It's almost impossible on the model:x boxes, sadly
Holy what.
I didn’t know until now you can copy a whole page of a pattern. You did it so quick I had to back up!
Sweet tips, dude!
Ricky, the only one who could roll a 1 on an AC and still Rip it like this

Yep, this LFO multiplier thing can also be p-locked.
And it could also be on a bass.
On a Digitone:)
Yeah man! That’s what I was looking for. Of course the homie comes through again 🙏🏽🤙🏽
Ricky please release the track it sounds 🔥🔥🔥

Loving the d20 :)
Ahhh the P-Locked LFO is awesome. Never thought about that... As always great video!

I was thinking about this just a couple of days ago actually..nice one
the video distortion is kinda cool thanks for the tip

Use over bridge to record the stems. Not a direct answer to your question, but helps a lot with mixing and mastering.

would love to know a good soft synth/vst that has nice strings like that nord.
Nice demo man I see the function button went through an ocd episode. Aha. Looks actually better mines on the pattern select button. aha
Hey, where did that grey button on DT came from?
Great tips!
Thanks bro!
This man has used his Digitakt so much that the function button lost color 😮
Dat da funk button
How you keep your Digitakt so clean my man?
Thanks!
Thank you Paul! Glad you found it helpful
Nice tldr! :)
Most important question is: why is your FUNC-button grey?
Dude, just noticed the "Sample Packs and Merch" link in your TH-cam header goes to a 404. No biggie, just letting you know ✌
awesome!
why your FUNC button is grey? :)
❤❤❤
