I got a Digitakt over the summer. Man, I love this thing so much, easily my favorite piece of gear (in my small collection). It's completely changed the way I make "music" and I always stumble upon stuff fiddling with samples that takes my original idea in a new/better direction. It's the ultimate beat machine in a small box.
So glad you ended up at Elektron. I have a bunch of Focusrite/ Novation gear (still love my UltraNova) but honestly the depth of the Digitone and Digitakt blows me away. I despair of ever learning them as well as you obviously have.but your videos are a constant source of inspiration. It's great to know what's possible.
Damned if he didn’t do what he said he would!😧track is SICK!!!🤤 I had to go back to the beginning to re-listen to the original track because it had been completely wiped from my short term memory by the flip!! That’s proper sampling skills ladies & gentlemen!
Man the workflow of the Digitakt seems so good, I've been messing with the OP-Z and always feel like I'm having to think about every step I add. This seems a lot more intuitive overall...
Holy crap man I thought the samples alone sounded sick, then the way you can play with them on the digitakt is like 🤯🤩I need to try one of those, the workflow seems similar to syntakt which I absolutely love.
@@Johanthegnarler I been late lol only got into synth hardware like 2 years ago. So many instruments to learn, so little time 🙈 also haven’t played with sampling that much but Ricky has shown me the error of my ways
I’ve been wondering how they keep track of the royalty %. Do they get reports directly from the streaming platforms or do you have to self report that regularly or something?
Incredibly inspiring sample flipping, about to try a similar workflow! And pretty damn sick beats, haha, I'd gladly watch a whole series of just what comes out from just you and a Digitakt :D
Having owned both, I wouldn't. The Digitakt is fine for what it is but it is very limited. There's really very little you can do on the DT that you can't do on the MPC but there is a universe or things the MPC can do that the DT can't. And the workflow is exceptionally unintuitive with all sorts of odd design choices, unlabeled shift functions etc - fine if you use it enough to learn them inside out but it didn't inspire me to use it every day so when I did pick it up, I'd have to go through the exceptionally unfriendly manual or hunt down TH-cam videos to remind myself of basic functionality that I never even have to think about on the MPC. And then I'd end up stuck in a four bar loop. If you really want to live and breath the thing and are one of those people who "thrive on limitations" then it's a great piece of kit for them. But I see them used in mint condition all the time so I'm fairly sure that lots of people don't gell with it at all.
omg that rap at the end 😂 just have to say that you are one of my favorite creators & i always find myself inspired to start a fresh project after watching your content. thank you for making music so fun!!
sounds rad! I need a detailed breakdown on what you did with that bassline. I know you verbally say it but you're working so fast I'm having trouble putting it all together. :P
Thanks for sharing this with us! An incredible window into your process, and always cool to see an instrument in the fluid hands of someone who knows how to use it. Extra bonus: Track is killer. Thanks Ricky!
Awesome sample! Not sure you've experimented with it yet but LFO can be applied to Slice. Set it to random and you get an ever changing pattern (just add the slice locks on the steps you don't want to change). PS, any chance you could get FW-BW (pingpong) loop mode added to the Digitakt todo list? 😀
Wow, Ricky, your approach, technique, and sample flip are truly impressive. I have a question and a request for you. Can you please explain how to import/record patterns and arrange them in Ableton? If there isn't a video on this, could you show us how you finalize your masterpiece, prepare it for mastering, and share it with the world? Thank you so much.
Very cool groove, I'm not one to work with machines and work within ableton just with a push and sorry for my ignorance, is your music based on chance, using samples? I never use them even though i own a huge library of samples on my ext hdd.. never understood tje concept on how to utilize samples... sorry I'm from the Amazon... thus why not much knowledge..
okay please finish and release this song i need it in my life
yooo! u wasn't lying, this is a sick track. What a vibe man, what a vibe!
Man, I find it super inspiring how you can take something so lush and spin it into a beautiful track like that!

Man, I love seeing you messing around with the digitakt, makes me wanna sell my Live2 and get one.

Pro tip: if you hold FUNC+turning knob you get whole values instead of decimals. So dialling your pitch to -3 would be much quicker. 😉
Smoove track 👍🏿
I just get octaves when I hold my func buttons
Giving Ricky pro tips... lol😂
@@anonymous_friend yep 👍🏿
