I did. Catchy little tune. I still sing it (in my mind) every now and then. I also loved the five times table and "Mean ole nasty, naughty number nine."
You really gotta give 'em props. They took a piece of prose with no intentional rhyme or rhythm to it and managed to create a pretty catchy melody for it. That couldn't have been easy.
I miss being 7, in simpler times. I remember sitting in front of the tv and waiting for School House Rock to come on after my cartoons. This song has always helped me to remember the preamble....learning with music...priceless! I have shared these with my kids, too...and I hope they do the same with theirs one day.
True story...went to take a test I didn't study for in Government in 1986. When I got there I realized I actually knew the preamble. All because of this video which I hadn't even seen in years. Got an A!
Yes we all had this song and more in our heads. I learned my multiplication tables with schoolhouse rock. And on the show “Family Guy” they did a joke about ‘Conjunction Junction,’ except it was ‘Vagina Junction’ what’s that function- taking in sperm and spitting out babies.. The voice over was just like the old cartoon and I almost choked! I was eating at the time.
I'm 56 as well. I learned it exactly the same way. Gotta love how they played these things in between the regular Saturday morning cartoons that just about every kid was glued to anyway! 😂
"I'm just a Bill & I'm sitting here on Capital Hill..." He was all bummed out, waiting on those steps & got so happy at the end, when he became a Law! Classic!
Had to recite the preamble way back in Eight grade. Thank you Schoolhouse Rock for making this catchy jingle! P.S. We got bonus points for singing it. I did, and even remembered the "...of the United States" bit that they dropped.
These videos and songs were great! I learned and can still say the Preamble to the Constitution by listening to this video. They should still play them today.
Back in the mid-70s when this was brand-new, my father thought that I was just watching TV as a dodge... that I wasn't learning or retaining anything. He felt that I was just mindlessly watching to kill time. He was wrong: this Schoolhouse Rock video was, and still is, my all-time favorite. I will turn 50 in a couple of months, and this video actually gives me goose bumps, because I have defended these principles for 31 years and counting as a Soldier, veteran, and DA Civilian.
Teacher played this at school (We need to memorize the preamble, which is pretty easy actually.) I've used schoolhouse rock even before this. The preamble starts at 1:03
The voices chosen for every song was incredibly unique and touching. I would love to have the opportunity to tell them how much they touched and taught my as a little child growing up. They were and are still are brilliant!
This video puts a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. First, because I remember this from when I was a kid. Second, because the preamble are some of the greatest words ever written in human history.
And third, because the country today has strayed so far from those original ideals. We wouldn't be such a divided nation if Schoolhouse Rock was still on the air - united by Saturday morning cartoons is how EVERY child in America should grow up!
I am currently 15 years old and I was just singing this song randomly and had no idea where it was from but now I remember Idk why your brain does this haven't heard this since 4th grade.
The proverbial "They" need to bring this back. My own kid made these VHS tapes her first purchase w/birthday money when she was 7yo. I had them on VHS too, but they were OLD. She is 32yo today, and she was just telling the grandkids about how she got up in front of class and sang it perfectly in 5th grade. Teacher asked if anyone knew the first three words to the Preamble. My kid was like, "I can sing it for ya..." Duly note, they did not have these on TV out here in the middle of nowhere. The teachers who were around my age had no idea such things existed, so it had to be a NYC area thing?? Or maybe just a "not in the middle of nowhere" thing, haha. I think every class in Elementary Schools should have them. ALL the Schoolhouse Rocks videos.
I have a clear memory (from around 1979, if you can believe it) of getting a 100% on a history quiz where we were supposed to write out the Preamble. I was like, "Schoolhouse Rock- oh yeah, I got this".
I remember this song, that's how I learned the preamble. I'm over 50 years old and learned it while watching cartoons on Saturday mornings. My kids thought I was a genius when I recited the Preamble. All thanks to this video when I was about 10.
You know, in this day and age and the way things are going, this brings a tear to my eye. No, really, we need this "faith" of a country more than ever now. nuff said?
Me and my siblings and other classmates....I was the first in my seventh grade class to ask if I could sing it rather than recite it...as I found myself TRYING to recite it....always ending in the song!!! Ms. Lindquist got a huge kick out of it!!! And, I received an "A"!!! Thanks Ms.L!!!

I'm nearly 50 and every so often I find myself humming or singing this, and other school house rock songs, but this one comes up alot. It almost starts as an ear worm when someone starts talking politics or there is a political news piece. And yes other stimuli can get my sing old songs and even old commercial jingles.
my social studies teacher plays this song really loudly with it on loop every, single, period. it is stuck in my head and I am now either brainwashed or brain-dead

You really gotta give 'em props. They took a piece of prose with no intentional rhyme or rhythm to it and managed to create a pretty catchy melody for it. That couldn't have been easy.
Lynn Ahrens is THE BEST!!!
And they only had to drop a small bit of it to fit the melody.
tell me why I still remember this song 20 years later. AND I can't say it without singing it either.

I'm 56 years old and that's how I learned it. In fact, I learned a *lot* from Schoolhouse rock! ;)
This is also how I learned it. I'm 38. Schools were still using these well into the 90s.

God bless America 😀
School House Rock started in 1974, I was 10 years old and learned so much watching 👀 this series. I can't believe I found it again 😁
