@@MrBlackReviews I record at 1080p 60fps, not sure if thats the problem but I'll set up my cameras to record straight videos then. thanks for fast reply.
Many people have complained that the Hero 9 has a serious freezing problem. I would like to know if you have experienced any freezing during your filming.
I have actually not. I experienced it a bunch on the 7... I think it was related to hypersmooth being on when I wasn’t recording and then throwing the gopro around. But haven’t at all experienced it on the 9 (sorry for the life story lol)
@@MrBlackReviews I appreciate the quick reply. I have been considering buying one, but was worried about the bad reports I had been reading about the freezing problem. My existing GoPro is a model 3, so it is time to upgrade. I mainly use it for recording overseas bike rides. I have now completed about 45 such rides since our first ride in China, way back in 2006. I am waiting for the pandemic to end before we can leave Australia again. Two trips have already been cancelled.
I use my GoPro mounted on my motorcycle going at 200+ kph and also free diving in open sea with whales. Not sure I want to do that with a $1000+ phone 🧐
Love that question! I was trying to think of that can be a video but, the only things I can think are housing cases, batteries, and the 3.5mm audio jack (which supposedly there is an update coming to make that work)
@@MrBlackReviews uuuuh that’d be an amazing video! So, wait... the ones you just mentioned are compatible? Because I’ve got the 7’s tripod, the tripos case, the silicone case, the micro card 64gb, 3 batteries (not counting the one that comes with the camera) and of course, everything that comes with the GoPro already (those sticky stuff for the hamlet). And I’m planning to sell the 7 in order to buy the 9, so I’m wondering if I should sell those to buy new accessories or if I should keep then 😥
All the mounts still work so anything that connects to those “2 loops” the sd card, I’m uploading a video of which one I think is the best of the 9 today and it’s a pretty good price. But yours might be good for the 9, but ya the batteries from the 7 won’t fit and any cases for the 7 won’t fit because it’s a different size
I haven’t seen any signs of overheating on mine or any of my friends that own one. Maybe they have cheap sd cards, that could cause over heating . I love my 9 still and use it a lot (btw i don’t sell these things or work for gopro, just being honest )
I like and own the 7 black, but I want to add a second camera for motorcycle ride recording, should I just invest in a 360 as a 2nd camera? picture quality or effects at those speeds, mmmm cool video though thanks
@@MrBlackReviews i just wondered. I see it in tech industry with cell phones and different smart devices. There will be hardware changes but also software changes that are only accessible on the latest generation of device. Seems like a marketing strategy to phase in certain newer features that have an internal functionality exclusive to the newer or newest model.
Hi does the Hero 7 fit the Karma Drone harness of the 5? I’m considering upgrading from my Hero 4 Black as the camera body cracked...or I might put a drop or two of crazy glue to fix the crack! The 7 is still available in Costa Rica but pricey!

hi Ant.. thanks so much for writing. Its always great when you are new to it... because you just keep with it and grow and grow!!! I would suggest something as easy as imovie which is on your mac right now. Aw thanks for making it to the end! Tech reviews are always hard to keep everyone’s attention lol. But also thanks so much for the comment and encouragement ☺️
I was thinking of getting the go pro 9 in august, but i was thinking should i wait till september/october and go for the hero 10 if they release it around that time.
Hi there, am looking for a camera to use on my Motorbike, I do not own anything as of yet, do you have any comparison videos compared to other action cams. thx
I actually dont have any other action cameras, (I wish my channel was bigger and they would send me them to review but I buy these cameras for now) however the 9 with the max lens mod on motorbikes is AMAZING!!!! you would love that combo
I hear a lot that the front preview on the 9 lags on video? Also the camera freezing a lot too! Any feedback on these claims? These are big deal breakers. Thank you!
So there is lag on the preview only when recording at 5k. I think this will get fixed in a firmware update. 4K look fine no lag. And 5k it’s just a little laggy nothing that ruins your day (and only when you hit record)
Hi Danny, Thanks for sharing. May I ask, why is your video quality so bad? feels like from webcam etc. Did you use a very high ISO and softened the footage in post?
When you compared audio with the media mod on the 7, it sounded to me like audio on the 9 (without the mod) sounded very much like the 7 (with the mod) would you agree?
the 9 does sound pretty good with no mics, however when any wind comes at you it does its best to stop the wind where it kind of messes the sound. but thanks for the comment!!!
Just bought the 9 before finding this video and already own the 7. Love your video and just subscribed. Gonna start watching more of your stuff, keep it up
Thanks Marc! Ya I almost want to do a follow up (3 months later) because I don’t even use the 7 anymore, not that it’s bad, the 9 is just that much more easy to use in my opinion :) 🙏
Thanks Ken ... I appreciate the feedback.. it’s all a learning process :) I have been playing around with different mics since this video too.. I actually do agree that a lapel might be the next thing I try out. 🙏 I’ll get it right one of these days lol
@@MrBlackReviews Hi Danny , I enjoy watching other video creators doing their tricks and lately I've been enjoying very much the way Richard Vobes works with his equipment and in this show he talks about different mics as well , have a good one th-cam.com/video/Vu3yhlxqfeI/w-d-xo.html
Fellow QLD'er here. Great video. I am currently looking at buying a second camera for Motorbike trips. I already have a 7 and was wondering whether to get a second 7 or get a 9. This video gave me all the info I am looking for . Thank you
Hi Paul and fellow QLD'er :) so at the moment i would wait and see what they roll out with for the 10. which will most likely be within the next 5 weeks. the 7 is great. the extra features on the 9 rock in my opinion, so if its something you talking to the camera or just another angle on the motorbike, you could look into the max lens mod, its pretty amazing! Sorry i just noticed this comment was from 3 weeks ago 🤦♂️ im just now trying to get all caught up with replies
I basically film everything on my channel with the GoPro hero 7 black. At the price point it can't be beat in my opinion. We have 3 of them now, all do great, but the audio is the biggest downfall. Looking into mic options now. Great video!
What do you think about night time video would the 9 still be the best option you think? I'm trying to find a camera that would shoot the best video at night for fireworks
Oooo... the 9 is okay, not much better than the 7 but you just have to fine tune the iso and shutter, but I would suggest looking into apps on a smart phone that might give you more control for night shots, the next step up would be a dslr
I am looking at buying my first Go Pro for motorcycle touring....I could save a bundle buying a Go Pro Hero 7, but I love that Time Warp...and hypersmooth! But the biggest selling point for the 9?? Battery size and storage! Thanks so much!
Honestly, batter yes, time warp yes... it has less freezing... but the biggest thing of all (and I understand saving is good) the max lens mod on the 9 especially on the motorcycle would be so good!!
Looking to upgrade from my 5 and was thinking a 7 would be a big improvement but also cheaper. That said I'd be interested in comments about whether it is better to just get the latest and buy the 9. Mostly used for off road videos on dirt bikes.
Oh if I were you I would get the 9... it has much better stabilization and paired with the Max lens mod it’s insanely smooth. (I made some recent vids about that)
Yes.. check out the video right after this one... I live stream from it on a scooter, and the video after that I show how to set it up :) thanks for the comment
I think you can if you have hypersmooth turned off... I am going to do a video on low light soon but I believe some other TH-camrs have put one on their helmet at night and cruised around
Just upgraded from 7 to 9! I love the 7, my favorite feature about the 9 is actually the horizon leveling which you didn’t talk about but that’s gonna make mountain biking content worlds easier to watcg
Yes you are right.. I should have brought that up, when I first got it, I didn’t think that was going to be such a big feature but you are right, it’s huge
Awesome!! Ya. I love the 9 and I still love the 7 , that front face lens rocks! I’m sure some people get their gopros and have issues but at the same time I’m a believer in 2 things. “ turn it off and on again” and “user errors” because usually people get to a problem and then complain about it... maybe 2 hours later figure out what they were doing wrong but don’t take their complaint down lol
There are a lot of easy simple free editing apps, could be on your phone or computer. Gopro released one but it’s not free. I paid for Final Cut Pro a while back but it’s a great one
The GoPro 9 has been featured in a lot of videos on TH-cam and almost all of them discuss how laggy and not responsive the back screen is. Do you find this to be the case as well? The camera is also said to freeze and shut down by itself in a low-temperature environment, have you ever experienced these problems yourself?
hey sorry for the late reply, im just now trying to get all caught up on comments. but the lagginess i found wasnt that bad if you put a little more force to it, but they also did a firmware update making it a lot smoother. as far as freeze and shut down, i actually honestly have not had that problem. I think it might boil down to SD card, maybe if you are running gps, wifi, voice commands, and its really hot sunny day, it might add up and create problems.
I’m in analysis paralysis whether to buy the Hero 7 black or jump to the Hero 9 black andi kit it with a media microphone. As the Hero 7 black is the last one to fit my Karma Drone that I use with my Hero 4 Silver and Black. The 9 seems the one to get but to do interviews and video blogs. But then I saw the Max...
I love my 9 over my 7. I’m not selling these so I’m not bias. Just telling you my experience. I’m working on a video for next week that compares the media mod with the 3.5mm mic attachment. The max is cool, but you probably won’t use it as much as you think
@@MrBlackReviews Thanks for the kind words and through answer! I look forward to your review. In the mean time I’ll be saving my pennies for the 9 and will try to improve the stories of my family videos! Cheers from Costa Rica and have a happy and healthy 2021!

My question is... what accessories are compatible?
@@MrBlackReviews Thank you so much Danny! You’ve helped me a lot. Already subscribed, so I’ll be waiting for new content! Hugs from Bolivia.

Thanks buddy!!
So any issues you have noticed with the 9? I’ve heard there are some bugs and over heating issues. Trying to decide if I should wait to upgrade
I haven’t seen any signs of overheating on mine or any of my friends that own one. Maybe they have cheap sd cards, that could cause over heating . I love my 9 still and use it a lot (btw i don’t sell these things or work for gopro, just being honest )
I like and own the 7 black, but I want to add a second camera for motorcycle ride recording, should I just invest in a 360 as a 2nd camera? picture quality or effects at those speeds, mmmm
cool video though thanks
thank you for your work on these
With Timewarp 3.0 and other software niceties, are they purposely withheld from older versions to entice buyers to upgrade to newer version?
ahhh thanks for that.. I was actually wondering because I never owned a hero 8 if they would also update to the newer timewarp
The 7 is the same size as the 5 so it should fit
@@MrBlackReviews I am looking forward to one, as soon as I can get it on the USA, specially for the hyperlapse feature!

I am new to GoPro and really appreciate this video. Plan to take it kayaking, hiking and backpacking up here in Alaska. Thanks!
With go pro 9 you can go online live?? As gopro.com say that this just for go pro 8 black and 9
Yes just for the 8 and the 9 it goes live but you need to connect to an internet source of some kind
So if the samsung s20 ultra and 21 has 8k video might as well save the money on the go pro? 🤔
Can you turn off the front screen while recording ?

Hi there, am looking for a camera to use on my Motorbike, I do not own anything as of yet, do you have any comparison videos compared to other action cams. thx
I actually dont have any other action cameras, (I wish my channel was bigger and they would send me them to review but I buy these cameras for now) however the 9 with the max lens mod on motorbikes is AMAZING!!!! you would love that combo
Have you had issues with using RTMP to livestream to TH-cam
I hear a lot that the front preview on the 9 lags on video? Also the camera freezing a lot too! Any feedback on these claims? These are big deal breakers. Thank you!
So there is lag on the preview only when recording at 5k. I think this will get fixed in a firmware update. 4K look fine no lag. And 5k it’s just a little laggy nothing that ruins your day (and only when you hit record)
Hi Danny,
Thanks for sharing.
Nice presentation Danny thanks but don't you think your camera is focused on your oversized microphone? I would go for a lapel mic instead .
Thanks Ken ... I appreciate the feedback.. it’s all a learning process :) I have been playing around with different mics since this video too.. I actually do agree that a lapel might be the next thing I try out. 🙏 I’ll get it right one of these days lol

@@MrBlackReviews thanks mate
I basically film everything on my channel with the GoPro hero 7 black. At the price point it can't be beat in my opinion. We have 3 of them now, all do great, but the audio is the biggest downfall. Looking into mic options now. Great video!
I think another plus for the GoPro 7 is the use of a multitude of preexisting accessories.
Top job mate thanks 👍
I’ve been waiting for this video!
This video has been waiting for you! There I commented on all your comments 😍😍😍
Danny Black love it!
Does the front screen on the 9 soak up more battery? Is there an option to not have it on?
Yes you can quickly turn it to just the numbers or completely off .. I believe it would save the battery and heat

@@MrBlackReviews cool I'll look into those options, thanks for the info

There are most definitely more tips and tricks that I’m still learning . Thanks so much for the kind compliment
@@MrBlackReviews happy to. I discovered you through Eh Joe who I think is another amazing TH-camr.

How is the gymbal
I'm a mountain biker and looking for one
You don’t need a gimbal. Especially with the Max lens mod (check out one of my vids with that) but it would look amAzing on a mountain bike
So I have 2 extra batteries for my go pro 7 (makes it 3) and they all doesn’t fit in the 9 😩😒🙁
there is an $8 attachment for the 9 you can get to convert your 7 batteries to work for the 9 (but only the newer batteries with blue on them)
GoPro HERO 10 vs Hero 5 is it worth the upgrade ?
I am looking at buying my first Go Pro for motorcycle touring....I could save a bundle buying a Go Pro Hero 7, but I love that Time Warp...and hypersmooth! But the biggest selling point for the 9?? Battery size and storage! Thanks so much!
Honestly, batter yes, time warp yes... it has less freezing... but the biggest thing of all (and I understand saving is good) the max lens mod on the 9 especially on the motorcycle would be so good!!
Did they skip the 8 and go straight for the 9?
Looking to upgrade from my 5 and was thinking a 7 would be a big improvement but also cheaper. That said I'd be interested in comments about whether it is better to just get the latest and buy the 9. Mostly used for off road videos on dirt bikes.
Oh if I were you I would get the 9... it has much better stabilization and paired with the Max lens mod it’s insanely smooth. (I made some recent vids about that)
@@MrBlackReviews Thanks for the feedback, I think I'll go with it and get the 9.

Hey. I would like to use it as a streaming cam as I walk and play an instrument on the beach. Is that possible?
Yes.. check out the video right after this one... I live stream from it on a scooter, and the video after that I show how to set it up :) thanks for the comment
I know I'm super late, but is $212 a good price for the hero 9?
So if you use the 7 as a webcam is it more complicated to set up? Does it need an HDMI capture card?
you need a capture card and hdmi micro to hdmi cable or adapter. after that its pretty simple
@@MrBlackReviews cool doesn’t sound too bad.
@@MrBlackReviews hopefully the audio lag isn’t too bad with a cheaper capture card. I’m teaching guitar lessons via Zoom.
Nice, how to save the videos? Is there wifi?or saving videos by computer?
You can plug your camera to your computer and save the video files there, you can also use the app and transfer the video files to your phone :)
Thank you for the very clear response, got it
Helped me a lot. Thanks!
And subbed. ✌😉👍
I'm confused. The Hero 7 also has time warp and a removable lens
How’s the low light performance between the two? Can you get a picture of a passing license plate with the 9?
I think you can if you have hypersmooth turned off... I am going to do a video on low light soon but I believe some other TH-camrs have put one on their helmet at night and cruised around
The size was holding me back but it looks like with the mount on the 7 it's just as bis as the 9 or is it just me?
no you are right... its just like that. I thought I would hate the bigger size but I actually think its a good size, feels good to hold too

NIce video. Thanks! I have the 7 and the 9 is on the way, but hear that so many people are having issues with theirs. Hope it will work out well!
Awesome!!
@@MrBlackReviews ha! Right on!

Hi, I don't have GoPro but planning to get one, my question is how do we edit the video, is that video editing software free?
