I remember the first time I rode in a car with a V8 and a stick and that getting thrown forward and then slammed back in your seat on the 1-2 shift is the greatest feeling!
love the old rock crushers. my brothers and sisters all had cars with em and i still miss that signature whine and rattle from every bolt attached to the transmission rattling loose. you just have never experienced life until you have drive an old camaro with an M-22, that whine empowers your soul.
More often than not I have to explain that NO it's not about to grenade itself...YES It's supposed to sound like that...and thank you for calling me an idiot for having a "worn out Muncie". Lol. Your dad getting ripped off and told he was buying a 22? or this transmission is still shifting great and has been since 2004 and its a worn out base Muncie? Lol

If it's howling REBUILD it. I've used these transmissions a lot over the years. They're NOT suppose to howl unless you have Straight cut gears like a Class 8 semi truck, or it's worn out. If it's been rebuilt with straight cut gears, then you double clutch or learn to Float the gears.
The transmission in the video is a muncie m22 which has a straight cut first gear and semi straight cut second and third gear. Thats why they sound like this.
Thats their natural sound. My grandpas 69 camaro had a very similar setup to this one. It had an M22 with straight 1st and semi straight 2nd and 3rd and a 427 with a HUGE cam. Its a bitch to drive but listening to that whining is beautiful
You're thinking of an M-20 or an M-21. The M-22 howls like a banshee. First gear is cut straight, just like a "normal" reverse gear. 2nd and 3rd use a "Semi-Straight" cut. Those trannies are tough as nails as a result.
You certainly don't need a radio the M22 is music all by itself Awesome !
i have an m22. it sounds like a blower cranking up. i love it

I had a 67 chevelle ss396 with that transmission back in high school. It was fun!
Music to my ears. A hot big block and manual trans are a match made in heaven.
Sounds exactly like my 70 LS6 Chevelle....Man does THAT bring back memories
I got one in my 56 hardtop, I love the sound
I picked up an 80’ Z28 as a parts car for my 81’ - paid $400 for it. When I got to the house, I was pleasantly surprised to find it had an M22 in it!
I had a 71 Trans Am that came with the M-22 behind the 455HO engine. It definitely whined off the dealers floor. Awesome never broke.

What gears are you running?
is that Boise?
Not driving your hot rod to preserve the value is like saying you ain’t gonna lay pipe to the ol lady so it’s still tight for the next guy.
Muncie Musical
that was cool, however that car can be shifted much quicker.
What is a rockcrusher?
Knickkname for the Muncie M22, the heavy duty 4-speed that they put behind the most powerful GM engines from about 67 thru 72.
Dude tryn to shift this thing in sandals.
336 rear gears
3.73
Must have tall tires, sounds sweet,it would look nice in my garage,I'd put in 411 gears.then drive it like I stole it
