I adore the voices of Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush together and the lyrics are just heartbreaking in the hands of these two experts
Peter and Kate do have unique voices. Peter was the singer in Genesis before leaving for a solo career. He has some great song. Deep and meaningful songs and just fun songs. Probably best exemplified by two songs. 'In Your Eyes' and 'Sledgehammer'. Both huge hits.
There’s a video of this with the 2 of them completely in full on bear hug on a rotating platform- mesmerizing to watch- they never let go- And speaking of quirky and COOL.. his mega hit “Sledgehammer” is a groovy vibe and MUST see official video-💜👍
I was going to mention that video if someone hadn't already. It's a beautiful video, and shows how close Peter and Kate are in real life.

This song came out during a time when England was going through a serious economic depression. Young men in small towns particularly were laid off from factory jobs.
This song actually kept me going after getting 'let go' from a job. I had nowhere to go, being as I was what is considered as "old" in the business world. My girlfriend and her mother kept encouraging me, even though jobs were at a premium in 1997. Because I didn't "give up" and kept sending resumes out, I finally landed a very good job. I ended up working there for 14 years, and was able to retire with a pension. Just sayin' to all of you, "don't EVER give up..."
The live version of Peter Gabriel "In Your Eyes" is life changing and life affirming. You'll love it.

Angela. You asked about Kate Bush. She was and still is one of my favorites. In the UK she had many hits and is still singing and performing today. I highly recommend...This Woman's Work. It is a beautiful and emotional song. She is an amazing song writer and lyricist with a one of a kind vocal talent. Btw...if I remember correctly this song (Don't Give Up) is about a family struggling during the Great Depression in the USA.

You really need to do Mercy Street. Simply spectacular. Peter Gabriel, such a name breeds the spiritual and divine.
Peter’s voice is warm and beautiful, so unique. I’m sure you’ll enjoy listening to him if you want to explore some more of his songs. “Solsbury Hill”, for example, is gorgeous, and so are “Washing of the Water” and “Here Comes the Flood”. Peter sings another song with Kate called “Another Day”, you can find it on youtube, too. And Kate does chorus for him in his song “Games Without Frontiers”.
This is the second video of this song. The first is the best with Peter and Kate hugging. More powerful.
You might want to consider listening to Kate Bush - Woman's work. It was covered by someone else, not that long ago. But this was originally Kate's song. There is no one like her!.

Yes, Kate’s voice is special and a great one to react to if you don’t know her work. Throw in the unusualness of tracks like Pi, Wow or Mrs Bartolozzi and it’s fabulous reaction material.

Solsbury Hill is an uplifting a d fun song, probably his first big hit as a solo artist...check it out. Also, Shock the Monkey is a quirky song that is a protest using animals for lab testing. He has so many good songs, though many have never gone mainstrem.

Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins were in the same band in the 1970s called Genesis. Collins took over vocals when Gabriel left the band after six amazing albums. And Mike Rutherford (the Mike of Mike & the Mechanics) played bass & guitar in Genesis. Their former lead guitarist is worth checking out. Two songs you might appreciate from him are Serpentine Song (a happy walk about in the park type of song) and To a Close (richly orchestrated and a bit of a tear jerker).
Peter Gabriel's live cover of "Heroes" is amazing.
Blood of Eden is one of his most moving songs, and Sinead O’Connor’s backing vocals are hauntingly beautiful.
Peter’s awesome and that angelic female voice is Kate Bush. Try Running Up that Hill. Another masterpiece.

It is amazing the two incredible male voices came out of the band Genesis; Peter Gabriel AND Phil Collins! You should listen to Genesis, both early with Peter and later with Phil as lead singers. Their voices are so similar yet unique. (in early Genesis, Phil sang backup and occasionally solo or in duet with Peter)
You really need to watch the video of them hugging while singing this in front of a solar eclipse.

He was the lead singer of Genesis before Phil Collins. That said Genesis was an album oriented prog rock band that didn’t explore the commercial side of their music until Phil (just drummer at the time) also started to sing lead. The rest is Rock’N’Roll history.

For more of Peter Gabriel's unique vocals, I'll repeat a lot of people here and suggest "Solsbury Hill," and if you want to risk a deep cut that also shows off his dynamic style, try "Humdrum." i suppose songs can have a unique meaning for every person.... for me, this song displays why men need women. I think a man can fight and struggle and continue regardless of any obstacle if he knows his wife believes in him.....he will face anything and everything to protect and provide for his wife and children if he knows he has their love.
Love Peter Gabriel going back to his early days with the band Genesis to his multi decade eclectic solo career.I saw his secret world tour in 94 one of my favorite concerts. I would suggest In your Eyes next from that tour incorporating a world sound into one of his biggest hits

Like you, many people see this song as being about suicide, or perhaps, suicide prevention. It is not. It is a primal scream from a man who is vulnerable enough to tell the world that what men really need is to be NEEDED. If you listen to it thinking in this light you will see that the woman in his life is telling him, she still needs him--even if he feels taken for granted. The thing that women today have not been taught is that all men actually need is to be NEEDED. That is why you hear so often women say, 'I don't NEED no man'.
