One of the greatest and most underrated talents in pop music history! Legendary hits such as Without You, Spaceman, Put the Lime in the Coconut, As Time Goes By, Jump Into the Fire and the one in this video. A LEGEND!
People of a certain age will recognize Nilsson's "Best Friend." It was the theme song for the TV show, "The Courtship of Eddie's Father." That was modified from his tune "Girlfriend."
You'll be freaking out when you hear "Without You," that's almost guaranteed. I dont think you're going to do "Jump Into The Fire" but you should. It's like "Without You" in my opinion. They are two of the greatest love songs in Rock n Roll. Coconut is great and headphones are mandatory but you already wear them.
I like the Badfinger original, with Pete Ham. It's lower-key, less histrionic, and, to me, emotionally richer. Harry kind of goes off the deep end with his version. But to each his own.
Harry Nilsson, the man with the golden voice. Early seventies people like John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, and Ringo Starr along with drummer Jim Keltner and bass player Klaus Voormann (who designed the album cover of the Beatles album Revolver) loved to work together. I remember buying the vinyl soundtrack of Son of Dracula with several songs by Harry Nilsson.
Thank you, Mike for the recommendation and thank you Maggi for this. The guy who actually wrote the song is my dad and, after watching your channel for almost 2yrs, I was amazed to see that you were going to cover it. What a treat!! Thank you!!!!! 😁🍻
An all-time classic recording seen by many for the first time as the bus takes Dustin and Jon down to Florida, in the film Midnight Cowboy." I think you seemed to miss the wonderful strings arrangement on this track, which for me is a stand-out feature.
Just wait until Without You. It is beautiful and haunting with such emotion. Every time I listen to Without You I choke up to this day. Just brilliant. You can hear the pain of what he was going through and it moves you. IMHO that's art. When you can connect emotionally with a song or a painting or a live performance of dance or music that's beauty and wonderful and what is all about. Loved this post.
I’d love to see her do Fred’s version or even the Dolphin Song but I don’t think his name would generate enough clicks. I know she’d love his baritone and might even be amazed by his part in 60’s folk history. 😎🍻
Harry Nilsson, a former bank employee, was, perhaps, the laziest performer in pop music history, refusing to tour. He was also a severe alcoholic. Yet he had an extremely versatile voice which couldn't be pigeonholed into any particular style. Fred Neil wrote "Everybody's Talkin'"; it was featured in "Midnight Cowboy".
You might want to watch the movie Midnight Cowboy, partly because it is set in NYC and it's an excellent film. Keep in mind that it was originally rated X. I haven't seen the film in a long time, so I'm not sure why.
Iwas 4 yrs when he recorded this song and recordedit from the radio on my casett player some yrs later. A beautiful song and a good singer but what else to expect from a man with Swedish heritage! 😉
I hope that one day you'll do a reaction to Nllsson's song "Joy". WARNING: Like "Paradise By the Dashboard Light", do *not* peek at the lyrics before reacting. "Joy" is chock full of fun and wordplay best experienced without warning.
The Tedeschi Trucks Band has a live cover version of this song. If you have heard them before, you already know they are a great band! Susan Tedeschi is the lead singer and plays guitar. Derek Trucks plays lead guitar. I really think they are one of the best bands around today.
@@StevenMichals0812 😁🍻 Am aware.😉 Fred was my father. I've been watching Maggi for about 2yrs now and was amazed to see was going to react to this. I'd love to see her do a reaction to dad's original but I don't think his name would be enough of a view generator for her. Though, to be honest, I'm continually amazed at how many people are fans even till today. At one point Everybody's Talkin' was one of the most covered songs ever. I know she loves a baritone and she'd probably like The Dolphin Song too. Slainte,, friend!
aparently harry was out pubn wit john lennon n he was asked 2 sing a song so he wanted to impress john n sang without u n sadly blew out his vocal cords n he became depressed leading 2 drug taking n early death. whn youg he had his own tv show in v us, had a fine voice.
I know this is old so you may not see it but.....Since you like this song you should consider Tedeschi Trucks Band's Live version. You will love Susan's voice in this uptempo version. She is a Berkeley School Of Music voice grad.
Maggie, you are doing a terrific job with your song reactions. I would love for you to do a reaction to the song”Pieces of Dreams” by my favorite singer- Johnny Mathis. He was Barbra Streisand’s favorite singer when she was younger. She has said of: “There are a number of good singers around; a few great singers; and there is Johnny Mathis.”He is the third best - selling recording artist of the past century behind Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. This is a phenomenal performance by Johnny,You will love this . A must see!! Please react to the Live version from the tonight show.
I remember this song. They played it on a film I saw a long time ago at the movie theater. Rather sad for Joe Buck and sadder for Ratso. I was in the U.S.M.C. at the time.

Yay!!! FINALLY you are reacting to one of the greatest American musicians!!! I am so excited! Thank you! This is a fabulous birthday present!!!
"Without You" was another huge hit for Nilsson, but "Without Her" is just beautiful and deserves a listen just as much.

Listen to “Remember (Christmas). His breath control is insane, along with range…
Speaking of Harry Nilsson, take a listen to You're Breaking my Heart.
This song is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.

Thanks for the recommendation, Mike, and the reaction, Maggie.
There's also Me And My Arrow, that was used for a car commercial in the mid '70's. I think that he also wrote the Three Dog Night song One.

So much fun to hear you appreciate him!!! 💐
The top fram is Dustin Hoffman and John Voight in Midnite Cowboy that the song was featured in.

Although Nilsson is deservedly known as a songwriter, this song was written by Fred Neil.
I’d love to see her do Fred’s version or even the Dolphin Song but I don’t think his name would generate enough clicks.

For a lot of fun, You should go through his album *"Nilsson Son Of Schmilsson".* 😊
Then maybe his *"Best Of".*
😎
One of my favorite song ever
I have this song (Everybody's talkin') set as my ringtone. :)

Her reaction at 16:32... Priceless, beautifully cute
Heart back atya, you're so talented- I can't stop watching your reaction to this amazing gem...
You gotta do Without You!! It will blow you away!
Great song thanks for posting 🎉
Love Nilsson and his version of Fred Neil's song. Fred does a great baritone version which is also great.

This is even a cover version. 😉

The movie midnight cowboy is the only x-rated movie to win an academy award. Great movie. This is not country music
Happy Valentine's Day to you ❤️
Also Jump in to the Fire!
You should do Without You by him as well.

Try to watch 'Midnight Cowboy', it's a classic and it's not just Dustin Hoffman that shines.
Also Try Gota Get up Gota get out And His Best Covered By Bianca'e With Out You.
It sounded like he sang the muffled trumpet part.

Love ya MR, but your pronunciation of Nilsson is chapping my... Can you please lengthen the first syllable to make it sound more like feel or eel ???
Harry only sang with him self Allways. and John Lennon.
Hi
We're all ready shut up
What we do not like is you going on for 13 minutes before the song.
Harry was NOT a country singer and had no country music fans that I know of.
I suppose you weren't too poor to gallavant around Europe and Scandinavia.
13 mins'''''''''' then .........everybody's talking.... no thanks, play the tune ffs and then comment,,,,...
NOT country
We like less talking and more reaction - get over yourself...................
You talk too much interfering with the music. Reaction should be after the song!
You spend too much time yaking. Jump into the song and yak after. 😢
You talk too much
