Well, I have an external sound card, the UMC204HD. I use the gain at around 70%, and there is zero self-noise. with XLR to XLR cables, there are more self-noise if you use XLR to PL cable

An XLR to PL cable (sometimes called XLR to 1/4" TRS/TS cable) is a type of audio cable used to connect devices with different input/output connectors.
