- RayGun performed at the Paris Olympics 2024 to huge criticism, with a PHD in breakdance many saw her as a mockery and joke to the dance and sport placing last. She is also currently being investigated for rigging herself into the competition. I decided to go to the birthplace of Breakdancing, New York City and ask various dancers their thoughts about RayGun

Some guy mentioned that it's not Breakdancing, but some sort of Interpretive Dancing.
Exactly.
Breakdancing is about acrobatics.
She can go & compete in Interpretive/Modern/Contemporary Dance.
She has no place or right to change Breakdancing, just because she cant do all those power moves.
And we do have gymnastics. It's not like women cant do those moves.
She just probably is too old & not very good.
Nobody expects a gymnast or dancer to compete against the powerlifters or wrestelers.
Even the flexibility is extremely important part of wrestling.
She was probably just doing her own thing rather than trying to change the culture she tried ig however how she got in is unethical for sure

She's not able to do either gymnastics or breakdancing. It's obvious that she's not very athletic. I'm not sure why she got chosen, but it seems to me that she really did do her best . . . Someone should have stopped her from competing and told her not to do that in public, but she seems to be convinced this was a wonderful, groundbreaking routine . . .

Well, the power moves and freezes, make Breaking a sport. It's like in gymnastic/skating, where they judge based on "Musicality"/Presentation & the technicality/athleticism.
Raygun should have been disqualified, b/c she cannot do the power moves/freezes.

@@a.s.7235 Misinformation? lol What are you - the secret service? lol I have watched many of Raygun's battles that have been uploaded on YT. She has defeated superior B-Girls in almost every one of her battles thanks in large part to the corrupt judging including battles when her husband was acting as one of the judges. Furthermore, it took more than just a passport to enter the Olympic qualifying process which was poorly advertised. Leah Clark and Catherine Tsang, two long time Australian B-Girls, spoke on all of the registration red tape surrounding the Olympic qualifying process organized by AUSBreaking. Fyi - Raygun and her husband Samuel free are the ones who reached out to AUSBreaking on behalf on the AOC and DanceSport Australia - they very same AUSBreaking that is complicit in making Raygun the premier Australian B-Girl in their national rankings. The corruption rabbit hole goes even deeper than that.
For all of my Hip-Hop culture people here is some more thought provoking background information on the entire Raygun fiasco for any interested people... When breaking was announced as an Olympic sport for 2024 the AOC went to DanceSport Australia who in turn went to Raygun and her husband Samuel Free. Raygun and Samuel Free brought in AUSBreaking (which was created in October 2019 around the same time as the Olympic announcement of breakdancing in 2024) to help them organize the Olympic breaking qualification process. A $275,000 grant was given for them to oversee and to help them organize the Olympic qualification process through AUSBreaking.
Raygun's husband (who is a physically challenged break-dancer) wanted to represent Australia in Paris but due to an alleged leg injury he became an Olympic team breaking coach - Raygun's coach specifically. Raygun then became their focus of getting to Paris which would make for a storybook tale of PhD Dr Raygun going from academic to Olympian. Money was to be made from books, speaking engagements, honors-awards, TV appearances, movie on her life, and more. She would also become the face of female breaking in Australia all the while enhancing her academic and national celebrity profile - a living legend.
They (AUSBreaking) then rushed the Olympic qualification process which kept many of Australia's best female breakers out of the event. Only 14 of the 16 female qualification spots were filled - all by friends of Raygun. Raygun subsequently defeated Holy Molly, someone she had defeated at least 3 times prior despite Holy Molly visibly being the better break-dancer (their previous battle videos are on YT), to qualify for Paris. Raygun had almost a year to come up with an Olympic routine but knowing that she was outclassed her and her husband came up with that buffoonery that we saw in Paris. Raygun then doubled down in a post-Olympic public statement claiming that she worked really hard preparing for Paris and gave it her all. In the end all of their behind the scenes manipulation of the Olympic qualifying process blew up in their faces.
Raygun has done nothing but steal from the Hip-Hop culture since she got involved with breakdancing. From her PhD in Cultural Studies (Deterritorializing Gender In Sydney's Breakdancing Scene: A B-girl's Experience Of B-boying) to her manipulating the Australian break-dance scene through her manufactured AUSBreaking organization breakdancing profile full of highly questionable wins and national rankings to her disastrous Olympic appearance has all been for self gain at the detriment of the culture. Raygun is an academic poser who has been perpetrating a fraud - she's not down by law!!

@@a.s.7235 Breakdancing is a big thing in Australia as they've had dope breakdancing crews since the early 1990s. Some of the more notable crews include: B-Boy All Stars, Fresh Sox, Street Kulture Breakerz, Team Cream and Flowtality... some of those crews have performed on the world stage and represented very well. Also, the Aboriginal/Indigenous Hip-Hop scene and many other Australian local grass-roots Hip-Hop scenes are representing the culture with full respect and love of it - word up!

She cheated herself into the Olympics and currently being investigated. She took away many opportunities for those who really needed that chance in Australia. 🇦🇺

The truth is that the breaking scene in Australia is quite low level and she is really the best among women in this country.
I really hope she takes legal action against you for defamation, when you say her boyfriend was a judge when it has been proven that he wasn't. 🙏

True, he wasn't a judge during the Olympic qualifying process but her husband (Samauel Free aka Sammy The Free) has been a judge at a lot of her previous battles from 2020 through 2023 many of which she won over visibly more talented B-Girls. Raygun and Samuel Free are the ones who brought in AUSBreaking to organize the qualifying process on behalf of the AOC and DanceSport Australia.
