"Makes a mockery of her sport?" It should never be a sport at all, and it's supposed to be about fun and self-expression. I don't see it that way at all, this is reminiscent of Emmanuel Augustus unfairly losing a lot of boxing matches to decision because the judges basically all hated his signature unorthodox style, hated that he was always dancing around his opponents, and thought that he was generally "bad for the sport". He was beautiful..! Breakdancing is expression (possibly not a sport) - she danced her heritage...! So she expressed herself well...! I'm sure when the first expressionist painters evolved, the classics were in shock.... bring on the simplicity of iconic movements and simplicity. Why do we always need to want more rather than to want less for simplicity. It think it's refreshing in this debate to hear what people expect versus what is really interesting in its bare bones simplicity. But again - probs not a sport unless you have already had ballroom dancing as a sport.....
When I watched her 'perform'' I really thought it was a prank, a JOKE. And the actual dancers would come on afterwards. She's ruined any possibility of having breaking dancing as a permanent sport modality at the Olympics. She embarrassed the whole nation. And she took the spot of a real breaking dancer. Shame on her!
Didn't she have to go through qualifiers and stuff? Did all the real b girls say I'm not participating in this foolishness. Didn't someone have to sign off on this? 🤦♀️🙄
Honestly, i don’t blame her, there are people who truly believe they can sing, or dance etc. The judges during the qualifiers shouldn’t have picked her, they fed into her delusion and gave her a spot in the Olympics. I honestly feel bad for her, she probably worked hard and thought she did great, and because the judges didn’t say anything, or even her coach! So in the end, the public did.
If it makes you feel any better, she wasnt the reason breaking is going to be discontinued. Since 2020, the host of the olympics decides sports they wanna add and others they wanna drop. France chose breaking, and the LA olympics in 2028 didnt keep it (the sports list should be decided, at the latest time possible, 7 years before the competition)
One of the most embarrassing moments in Australian "sport". I have never cringed so hard to the point of almost tears, begging for it to stop.
